Ludhiana: Cop who cracked ₹8-cr dacoity to be honoured
The honour caps an unblemished 36-year career marked by landmark investigations, including Punjab's biggest-ever heist — the ₹8.49 crore dacoity at the CMS cash management firm. His meticulous groundwork and relentless pursuit of leads in the case not only led to the arrest of the culprits but also recovery of a substantial portion of the stolen cash, earning him widespread recognition.
Over the years, Inspector Suresh has handled some of the state's most challenging cases involving murders, gang crimes and organised criminal networks. His medal tally reflects his consistent record of excellence — the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2016), the Chief Minister's Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty (2023), four DGP Commendation Discs (2010, 2017, 2022, 2023), over 200 commendation certificates and 10 appreciation letters from senior officers.
Joining the force in 1990, he topped his batch of 600 recruits in basic training at Jahan Khelan and was an accomplished athlete, having been named Best Athlete at his college in 1987.
Beyond policing, he is also known for his commitment to environmental causes, actively participating in tree plantation drives and promoting greenery.
This year, only two Punjab Police officers — Inspector Suresh Kumar and ADGP (PAP) Mohammad Faiyaz Farooqui — were named for the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
'Cases like the ₹8.49 crore dacoity tested every ounce of investigative will, but serving the public and upholding justice has always been my greatest reward,' Inspector Suresh said.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Friday said police and security agencies have been directed to take strict action against those involved in drug smuggling. "The number of drugs destroyed has increased by 132% compared to last year. The amount of drug seizures has increased by 104%. Parents should be more vigilant and aware against drugs. The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking the country forward, we are also trying to move forward," the Chief Minister said. "Along with boys, girls are also getting addicted to drugs. The state government is continuing its fight against this. Various security agencies, including the police, are conducting operations against drugs," he added. "Efforts are being made to catch the drug kingpin. The police and other agencies have been instructed not to let anyone associated with drugs go free. A zero-tolerance policy has been adopted in the fight against drugs. Work is being done in that way," he further stated. Dr Saha was speaking while inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organised by Aurobindo Sangha at AD Nagar Higher Secondary School grounds in Agartala. "We can donate clothes, money, food, education, etc, but blood donation is a donation that cannot be bought from the market for money. Blood donation brings a divine feeling. Others can also be motivated through this social activity. We are many steps ahead of other states in the country in blood donation. Out of 100 people, 15 have negative blood group. Therefore, it is important to maintain an adequate stock of negative blood," he said. Dr Saha also said that the Aurobindo Sangha has organized various activities from August 1 to August 15 on the occasion of its foundation day and Independence Day. As part of this, responding to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it has organized the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam program. Speaking on further on the issue of drugs, the Chief Minister said everything cannot be solved in a single day, pointing out that it is not possible to undo the atmosphere created by the policies of the Communists and Congress over the last 35 years, along with another five years. "It needs a lot of time. Still, we want to build a beautiful state. India has now reached the fourth place in terms of economy, from the 11th place earlier. Tripura is also in the second-highest position among North Eastern states in terms of GSDP and per capita income," he added.

Man Posing As Cop, Claiming To Be Raja Raghuvanshis Friend, Arrested
Police have arrested a man for allegedly posing as Raja Raghuvanshi's friend and visiting his home in Indore while impersonating a railway police officer, according to a report. The accused, identified as Bajrang Lal, a resident of Rajasthan, visited Raghuvanshi's house on Thursday. He introduced himself as a police station in-charge from Delhi and claimed to be a close friend of Raja, as per the HT report. Raja Raghuvanshi was reportedly killed in May during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, with investigators alleging that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, hired contract killers to carry out the murder. At the time of the incident, Lal was dressed in a uniform with three stars, an RPF badge, and ordinary red shoes. His appearance and behavior raised doubts, prompting Raja's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, to inform her other son, Sachin. When questioned, the accused repeatedly changed his statements and even attempted to leave, as per the HT report. Lal claimed he had met Raja at Ujjain's Mahakal temple in 2021, but the family refuted this, saying Raja had not traveled during the COVID pandemic. Officials believe Lal's intention was to dupe the family. According to an Indian Express report, the Police said that preliminary inquiries indicate that the accused has a pattern of impersonating police officers. Investigators suspect he had studied details of the murder case in advance and was attempting to dupe the family. The accused has now been arrested, and authorities are examining his past criminal record. Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Raja Raghuvanshi, who married Sonam on May 11, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The murder was allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was reportedly in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha. Investigators allege that she conspired to eliminate Raja even before their marriage. As part of the plan, three men were hired to execute the crime. After a few unsuccessful attempts, the attackers finally killed Raja on May 23. His mutilated body was found in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on June 2. Five arrested for murder of woman in Dima Hasao, locals allege rape
Silchar: Police in Assam's Dima Hasao district arrested five men in connection with the alleged murder of a 48-year-old woman, whose body was recovered from a forested area on Friday. According to officials, the victim ran a tea stall, and she went missing after shutting her stall around 5 pm. Her body was later traced with the help of a mobile phone tracker. Preliminary examination revealed multiple injuries, including severe wounds on the head. In a breakthrough, police have arrested five men working in a hydro-electric project as suspects, SP (Dima Hasao) Mayank Kumar told TOI on Saturday. The body of the woman has been sent to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, the SP informed. Earlier on Friday, SP Kumar, along with additional SP Luit Talukdar and additional SP (crime) Faruk Ahmed, visited the spot. "The incident is painful. The employers of the five men have been fully cooperating with the investigation," ASP Talukdar said. A case has been registered, and police said the exact cause of death will be established after the autopsy report is received. The incident triggered protests in the area on Friday, coinciding with Independence Day. Angry locals gathered in front of a police outpost, alleging that the victim had been gang-raped by five men before being murdered. They also demanded that work at the hydro-electric project be suspended until justice is delivered.
