Tougher rules needed in Tunbridge Wells to enforce bus gates
Tougher rules could be enforced on drivers ignoring bus gates in a Kent town.Kent County Council (KCC) and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council have had cameras at Mount Pleasant Road since since March 2023, to stop drivers using the bus priority gates.But the authorities said too many unauthorised drivers are still regularly using the gates, and want to install more cameras and issue penalty notices.A public consultation on using more enforcement is open until 19 June.
Simon Jones, KCC's corporate director, growth, environment and transport, said: "Moving traffic enforcement can only be applied where action is needed to improve road safety, make public transport more attractive and tackle congestion."Unlike other moving traffic enforcement consultations, this site already has enforcement, but we need your views on whether this should be continued."If both councils decide to go ahead, enforcement would begin on 1 September, with residents who live in the area issued with permits.

A lorry has overturned on a major motorway bringing traffic to a standstill as motorists complain of four-hour delays near Stansted Airport. The M11 in Essex is closed in both directions between Stansted Airport and Harlow after a heavy goods vehicle crossed the central reservation before overturning and coming to rest on its side. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the lorry swerved from the northbound carriageway at around 3pm today, with the air ambulance reportedly present. Pictures from the scene show the lorry on its side with debris scattered across the motoway, while another two vehicles have been left damaged following the collision. Essex police will carry out investigations and closures are expected to remain in place throughout the evening and into the night, the National Highways said. The force has warned that the closures will affect people travelling to Stansted Airport in the coming hours. Motorists have taken to social media vent their frustration after waiting in traffic for more than fours and following a series of crashes on the same stretch of the M11. One user on X said: @NationalHways how can people be left in their cars for over four hours with no sign of anything happening. 'Understandable that an accident has happened but you can turn cars around near the junctions. People have children and dogs. No shade and no water left.' Another added: 'When, in the name of God, will something be done about this deadly stretch of the #M11? Another serious crash, air ambulance, huge delays. 'Constant cost of disruption must be in the millions—average speed cameras would've paid for themselves.' National Highways said: 'The M11 in Essex is closed in both directions between J8 near Stansted Airport and J7A near Harlow North due to a serious collision involving an overturned heavy goods vehicle which has crossed from the northbound carriageway onto the southbound carriageway and has subsequently overturned and come to rest on its side. 'Essex police will be carrying out collision investigations throughout the evening. 'The closures are expected to remain in place for several hours throughout the evening and into the night. 'National Highways Traffic Officers and service providers are in attendance and are assisting with traffic management.' Traffic caught within the closure is currently being released via rearward relief and diversion have been put in place. Isle of Man TT crash 'wasn't my fault'
Peter Hickman has revealed that his high-speed crash at the Isle of Man TT, in which he suffered multiple fractures, was caused by a component 14-time TT winner crashed at the Kerrowmoar section of the Mountain Course while taking part in a qualifying session for the event, held on closed public roads, on the evening of Friday, 30 38-year-old was flown to Noble's Hospital on the island by Airmed helicopter after the incident, where he was treated for his injuries, before being who holds the absolute lap record for the 37.73-mile circuit, sustained chest, back, shoulder and facial injuries in the crash."I've broken my left collarbone, my left scapula and my shoulder blade down the back is in three pieces. I broke three ribs and four vertebrae in my back so not ideal," explained Hickman in a video posted on his Facebook page."Unfortunately, it was a component failure [which caused the crash] so it wasn't actually my fault."It was some bracketry that holds the exhaust in place. It didn't come loose, it broke in theory, and pushed the exhaust into the rear wheel and popped the rear tyre. That was why I crashed."Hickman was riding his Superstock BMW machine for the 8TEN Racing team he recently formed with fellow racer Davey Todd when he crashed."I'm pretty battered and bruised all over the place but I just want to say a massive thanks to the medics and the marshals that looked after me at the time. They did a fantastic job."I don't remember much about it because I was knocked out."I don't remember the lap leading up to it and the first time I properly woke up, I woke up in hospital, so that was a bit of a new experience for me in my 25-year career. I've never been knocked out before."Hickman has been a regular competitor at the TT since making his debut at the races in 2014."I've been going to the Isle of Man TT for 10 years and this is the first major problem that I've had," he said.

'Substantial delays' likely as M62 Ouse Bridge joint fails
Drivers should expect "substantial delays" on the M62 in East Yorkshire after inspectors found a newly fitted joint on the Ouse Bridge had failed, officials have Highways said lanes one and two of the westbound carriageway, between junctions 37 and 36, are closed.A spokesperson said: "These lane closures will be in place while we carry out investigations to understand why the joint failed and we expect closures to remain for the rest of the day."
