Low insurance costs, affordable treatment and medicines drawing NRIs to India
New Delhi: Low medical insurance premiums, affordable treatment costs and high quality healthcare facilities at private hospitals are making NRIs turn to India for medical treatment, according to a report by Policybazaar.
The insurance aggregator noted that the share of NRI buyers of health insurance grew 150% in 2024-25 as compared to the previous year.
One of India's most compelling advantages is the dramatic cost difference for medical procedures. Healthcare costs in India are very low compared to what one pays in the US and other developed countries. Patients can save 60-90% on treatments in India.

While treatment costs in India are low, so are the medical insurance premiums compared to what one pays in the US and other countries. The average annual health insurance premium per person in India is $120-300 (Rs 10,000-26,000), which is significantly lower than $8,000 (Rs 6.9 lakh) payable in the US or $4,000-5,000 (Rs 3.4-4.3 lakh) charged in GCC countries.

Apply by August 7 at Jamui's District Employment Office Educated job seekers in Bihar now have a rare opportunity to work abroad, with the state government opening up 5,000 job vacancies in Israel for the role of home-based caregivers. The Labour Resources Department has issued an official call for applications, with most of the positions earmarked for women. According to a public notification from the District Employment Office in Jamui, these overseas roles are being facilitated under an agreement with Israel, offering monthly salaries equivalent to Rs 1.61 lakh (USD 1,870 or 6,247.67 Israeli New Shekel). The contractual jobs span an initial two-year period, with an option for extension based on performance and further requirements. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must be between 25 and 45 years old, weigh at least 45 kg, and have a minimum height of 1.5 metres. A Class 10 pass certificate is the minimum educational requirement, along with proven proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. A valid passport is also mandatory. While 90 percent of the posts will be reserved for women, the remaining 10 percent are open to men. Preference will be given to female candidates with prior training in General Duty Assistant (GDA), Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM), General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), Diploma in Senior Care (DSC Nursing), or Post-BSc Nursing. Importantly, women who have never worked or traveled to Israel before will be given priority. Applicants must also be mentally and physically fit. Gauze left in abdomen after C-section, hospital faces probe
Ghaziabad: A Nehru Nagar resident has accused a private hospital of negligence after doctors allegedly left a towel-sized gauze in his wife's abdomen during a caesarean section. While a police case is awaited pending an inquiry by a CMO-led panel, complainant Chirag Kataria said the patient experienced severe pain and fever for a month following the June 6 delivery. After she fainted on July 10, subsequent medical tests at a Ghaziabad centre revealed a foreign object in her abdomen. "Diviya underwent a C-section at Om Medical Centre in Ashok Nagar. But ever since she was discharged, my wife had bouts of fever and occasional sharp pain in her chest. On July 10, she fainted at home following a severe stomachache. We consulted the doctor at Om Medical Centre again and she was advised to undergo a USG, CT-scan and X-ray," Kataria, who works as a consultant with a French company, said. Kataria submitted a written complaint to the chief medical officer, and a three-member team was set up to investigate the complaint. "We tried to lodge a complaint with the police, but they denied it, saying a CMO report or order is awaited," he added. CMO Ghaziabad Dr Akhilesh Mohan said the committee will probe if there was negligence on the part of the doctor or hospital, and submit a report to higher officials in Meerut. The hospital management and the doctor who performed the C-section did not respond to TOI's repeated calls.
