Astros rookie Jacob Melton turned heads in just his fifth Major League game, delivering a highlight-reel moment in right field.

The No. 2 prospect in Houston's system, Melton debuted on June 1 in a 1–0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Then, in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Cleveland Guardians, Melton sprinted toward the foul line and launched himself into the air for a sensational diving catch. He robbed Angel Martinez of a potential extra-base hit. Consequently, the play ended the inning and preserved Houston's 3–1 lead, stunning the crowd at Progressive Field.
Houston drafted Melton in 2022. He began his career with the Florida Complex League Astros and Single-A Fayetteville Woodpeckers before rising through the ranks. Eventually, he earned a promotion to Triple-A Sugar Land. On June 1, the Astros called him up to the majors.
In his debut, Melton went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. However, he still impressed with a game-saving catch in the ninth inning. So far, through five games, he's slashed .188/.235/.188 with three hits, two RBIs, and six strikeouts in 16 at-bats. While his offense remains a work in progress, his defensive impact has already been felt.

Meanwhile, the Astros broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth. Brendan Rodgers walked to lead off. After Melton hit into a fielder's choice, Peña did the same, putting runners on first and second. Isaac Paredes then walked to load the bases. Jose Altuve followed with an infield single to bring in Peña. Moments later, Christian Walker knocked a two-run single to right, giving Houston a 3–0 lead.
In the bottom half, Cleveland responded. Schneemann reached on an infield hit, followed by singles from Brennan and Wilson. Wilson's knock drove in Schneemann, cutting the lead to 3–1. However, Melton's diving catch moments later halted the rally and kept the momentum with Houston.
Shortly after, Rodgers added to the lead with a solo homer in the sixth, making it 4–1. Yet Cleveland answered right back, as David Fry launched a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to bring it to 4–2.
From there, Houston's bullpen took over. Despite some late traffic, they closed the door on any comeback attempt. Finally, Josh Hader pitched a clean ninth to earn his 17th save of the season.

Rookie starter Colton Gordon delivered a solid performance from start to finish. Recently called up to fill gaps left by injured pitchers, Gordon pitched five innings, gave up one run on seven hits, struck out five, and issued no walks.
The Houston Astros, now 35–28 and leading the American League West, continue to show their depth and potential for another postseason run. Rookie Colton Gordon set the tone early with five strong innings on the mound, while Jacob Melton stole the spotlight with a game-saving catch in right field. With rising stars stepping up, could this be the spark that fuels another deep playoff push?

'Everybody Has Opinions!' Browns WR Hopes to Put Sketchy Past Behind Him

'Everybody Has Opinions!' Browns WR Hopes to Put Sketchy Past Behind Him originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns hope to have solved their quarterback problem this season. With two veterans and two rookies in camp this summer, they've got options for who will be throwing the ball in 2025. Advertisement What they don't have is a lot of options for guys catching those balls. Cleveland has just two receivers on their summer roster who have caught at least 50 passes in a season. Jerry Jeudy and Diontae Johnson. And Johnson is a question mark. Johnson had a drama-filled season in 2024 and played for three different teams. He led the Panthers with 30 catches and 357 yards over the first two months of the season before being traded to Baltimore, where he lasted seven weeks and caught one pass. He was also suspended by Baltimore for refusing to enter a game against the Eagles on Dec. 1. The Ravens waived him not long after, and he was claimed by the Texans. Houston waived him three weeks later after he became emotional about playing just 15 plays in the Wild Card game against the Chargers. Advertisement Now, he'll try to clear his head in Cleveland, where he spoke during minicamp for the first time about last season. "I don't want to speak on a lot of stuff," Johnson said. "Everybody's going to have their opinions, you know what I'm saying? So at the end of the day, I'm the only one in that room that really know what's going on. They're entitled to their own opinion, so I can only go off of what I know and then try to go off what I put out there and my best effort. But like I said, last year is last year. I'm trying to change that narrative and move the right way and keep going." The Browns took a flyer on Johnson on a one-year deal for the veteran minimum with no guaranteed money. Johnson also said Cleveland was the only team that reached out to him. And so far, head coach Kevin Stefanski has been impressed. Advertisement "Diontae's doing a nice job," Stefanski said Tuesday. "Obviously, getting up to speed with terminology and those types of things, and I think we'll just continue to work. But it's good to have him out here." In what could be his last chance in the NFL, Johnson will need to impress this upcoming season. And it wouldn't hurt if he caught about 50 passes ... from whoever is throwing the ball for the Browns. Guardians' Austin Hedges activated from 7-day injured list

SEATTLE (AP) — The Cleveland Guardians activated catcher Austin Hedges from the 7-day injured list prior to Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners. Hedges, 32, was placed on the list retroactive to last Thursday after he was struck on the helmet on a backswing by the New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. during a game on Wednesday. It marked the fifth time Hedges has been placed on the injured list because of a concussion across 11 MLB seasons. 'They're all very similar, at least my version of them,' Hedges said. 'Apparently there's a handful of different types of brain injuries, and mine have been pretty consistent just at least with the symptoms. So, it was nothing new for me. Luckily this one wasn't very bad and didn't take that long to get over it.' Hedges said his symptoms started to clear up roughly three days removed from the incident. He visited a specialist in Pittsburgh prior to joining the Guardians in Seattle, one which he had worked with during his first stint in Cleveland from 2020 to 2022. Hedges said he was appreciative of the Guardians not rushing him back to play too quickly. 'We have such an amazing staff, and they're always looking out for all of us,' Hedges said. 'But, I felt like we handled everything perfectly and just happy that it was the minimum amount of time.' ___ AP MLB:
