RU students raise concern over increase in self-financed seats

For regular seats, students pay the subsidised fee set by the university, while self-financed courses typically cost double the regular fee.
Student leader Manish Meghvanshi said, "Students from rural backgrounds come to RU for higher education because of the nominal fee charged for regular courses. But now seats have been increased under SFS category. The facilities provided for these courses are the same as that given for regular courses, then why is this additional fee being charged?"
Students explained that if a course has 120 seats, then with a 20% increase, 24 seats will be added, which takes the total to 144.
Till the previous academic year, all the 144 seats were under regular admission, but from this year, the additional 24 seats are under SFS.
"A student will pay double the fees for the 24 seats but will study with the same 120 students who are paying the regular fee, which costs up to Rs 5,000, while under SFS it is up to Rs 15,000," added Meghvanshi.
Students have raised this issue with the VC and have threatened to protest. A senior official from the admissions committee said the complaint filed by the students was being looked into.

KSLU to get dedicated administrative building after 15 yrs
Hubballi: After more than 15 years since its establishment, Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) in Hubballi is set to have its own dedicated administrative building. The construction of the G+3 structure is under way on 2.4 acres, at an estimated cost of Rs 39.5 crore. The building is expected to be completed by May 2026. KSLU, established in Jan 2009, currently operates from a former PWD guest house that was repurposed into an administrative office. Spread over a 55-acre campus, the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in constitutional law, intellectual property rights, business and trade law, criminal law, and international law. While around 1,200 students study on the campus, the university has a total student strength of approximately 45,000 across the state. The total built-up area of the four-storey structure will be 94,761 sq. ft. The ground floor will be 24,440 sq. ft, first floor 20,321 sq. ft, second floor 22,255 sq. ft, and third floor 20,321 sq. ft. RM Kulkarni, KSLU assistant executive engineer (AEE), explained that the ground floor will house a canteen, bank, post office, storeroom, physical director's office, laboratory and toilets. The second floor will accommodate the finance section, ICT section, syndicate zone and cabins, student welfare and development section, academic zone and toilets. The third floor will feature the engineering section, SC/ST records cell, planning and management office, NSS office, administrative section, and toilets.

Turning to ‘spiritual powers' to fight ‘vote jihad' led to Mahayuti's victory: CM Fadnavis
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said he and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde turned to the 'spiritual powers' in the state to counter the 'vote jihad' experiment observed during last year's Lok Sabha election in May which led to their unprecedented victory in the assembly poll later in Nov. "An experiment was conducted in the name of 'vote jihad' during the Lok Sabha poll. Some people united to defeat nationalist thoughts. When we unearthed their conspiracy, I and Shinde Saheb, appealed to the spiritual powers in Maharashtra," he said. Fadnavis was speaking at an event organised by spiritual leader Ramgiri Maharaj at Shani Devgaon village in Vaijapur taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP's Mahayuti alliance suffered a setback in Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha election but made a remarkable comeback six months later in the assembly poll. "We told Ramgiri Maharaj and other seers in Maharashtra that this (vote jihad) is not a political invasion but a clear attack on our culture. There is a feeling that a handful of people are uniting to defeat the thoughts of nationalism and our sants," Fadnavis said.
