Male lion, female chimpanzee pass away at Kansas City Zoo
According to the KC Zoo, the two animals who passed were 20-year-old male lion Shakarri and 29-year-old female chimpanzee Teeoni. Shakarri was euthanized as his quality of life had diminished, while Teeoni had been battling heart disease for over a year.
Shakarri reportedly died of age-related health issues and had recently stopped responding to medical treatment before the decision was made. He was one of four cubs born to parents Dumisani and Jean on June 28, 2005.

KC Zoo says some of Shakaari's favorite things were canned goat's milk and chewing on small plastic tubes. Shakaari is survived by his sister Zuri.
Teeoni, however, had been battling heart disease, and two masses were found on other organs in her final days as well. The zoo decided to euthanize her when it was clear treatment would not improve her life.
Teeoni came to the KC Zoo in 2003 with her twin sister, TeeToo, and her mother, Rachel. Both Teeoni and TeeToo had similar heart conditions, leading the zoo to believe there may be a familial predisposition. TeeToo has also passed.

Teeoni gave birth to Ruw in 2016 and formed close relationships with her nieces, Gracie, and her brother, Milo. KC Zoo says Teeoni was incredibly intelligent and stood out when it came to activities like fishing with a stick and trusted staff with regular checkups.
'These iconic Zoo residents were incredible ambassadors for their respective species; Shakarri and Teeoni will both be dearly missed,' KC Zoo wrote on Facebook.

Exciting News Involving Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Emerges on Monday
While much of the attention on Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce has been focused on the upcoming NFL season, the duo has some exciting off-field news. Back in March 2024, Mahomes and Kelce teamed up for a business venture in Kansas City, opening a steakhouse called '1587 Prime', named after their jersey numbers. After a year of development and bringing the concept to life inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel, the restaurant finally has an official opening date. On Monday, the news was revealed via a video showing Kelce and Mahomes taste-testing the menu ahead of the grand opening on Sept. 17. Check it out: The restaurant is set to be a modern American steakhouse, featuring live music, two floors, a two-story entrance designed to resemble the tunnel of an NFL stadium, a 20-seat central bar, and private dining rooms. Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have spent their entire NFL careers with the Chiefs and have consistently given joy back to the community through their on-and off-field successes. Mahomes discussed the idea behind the steakhouse he and Kelce are opening in Kansas City, emphasizing that it's meant to be a place that brings everyone together. "We don't want to make it too upscale, too high-priced so that not everybody can go," Mahomes said during an interview with Fox4KC. "We want it to be a place where Kansas City can call it home, and where everyone can come and really enjoy it." He added, "We always see these restaurants and we have a love for bringing people together. I think the biggest thing for us is we're gonna do whatever we can to keep bringing people together, and what better place than Kansas City? Hopefully we can win some games at Arrowhead Stadium and then go over and have a few drinks and some food with it."This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 18, 2025, where it first appeared in the NFL section. James Gunn Breathes Easy After SUPERMAN's Success: "I Don't Have To Worry About The Life And Death Of The DC Brand Anymore" — GeekTyrant
When Superman hit theaters last month, the DCU finally got a much-needed win. The film has earned strong reviews (it holds an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes) and has already crossed the $600 million mark at the global box office, making it the top-grossing superhero flick of 2025 so far. While it didn't hit the elusive billion-dollar milestone, it's a major victory for DC Studios, especially after the critical and financial failures of The Flash and Joker: Folie à Deux . With that kind of success, Superman director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is finally feeling a sense of relief. In a recent interview, Gunn got candid about the pressure that came with launching the first film in the new DC Universe. "That's all it is, it's just an enormous sense of relief. It's relief, and then followed very quickly by excitement because Superman in some ways was the proof of concept. 'It was so, so hard, in the same way that Guardians [of the Galaxy] was so, so hard. Once you're in the groove, you realise, 'Oh, this is what works, this is what doesn't, this is where we can go with this.'" He went on to say: "It means now we have the freedom to tell these other stories in a way that's really exciting. Now, I can just be creative and I don't have to be as concerned with the life and death of the DC brand as I was a month and a half ago." The positive reception from fans has only reinforced his confidence moving forward. "I feel really embraced by the audience. My feeling is that the movie spoke to people, but it also spoke to people because there was a reason for its existence. There was this message of kindness that spoke to people." But Gunn also made it clear he doesn't intend to repeat the same formula in future DCU stories. "That doesn't mean every story I'm going to tell is a message of kindness; it just means there needs to be a reason for the story to be told. You can't just be piling on stuff because it's the characters people liked." Looking ahead, Supergirl is next in line, continuing the "Super-Family" narrative. With Clayface also in the pipeline, the pressure is on to maintain this new momentum. There are rumblings of a major crossover that might see Supergirl teaming up with the Man of Steel, and long-term fans are still hoping that Brainiac will finally make his big-screen debut. Gunn's ultimate vision remains tightly under wraps, but speculation points toward something big and exciting.
