Two mobile snatchers nabbed in Delhi; one came out of Tihar jail a day ago
Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have solved a mobile snatching case, pertaining to an Indian national working in Saudi Arabia, in just five hours of the incident.
However, the startling fact is that one of the two criminals caught by police was released a day before the crime, from Tihar jail.
The two snatchers were identified as Mohd Taimur alias Saddam and Sameer Khan, and they have a history of committing such crimes. The snatched mobile phone was also recovered from their custody.
The mobile snatching took place in North Delhi's Sadar Bazar area on May 10, when a Haryana resident Juvail Khan was on his way to his friend's factory in the area. While he walked on foot and was crossing past a school on Idgah Road, two bike-borne men came from behind and snatched his mobile phone and fled from the spot.
Forty-two-year-old Juvial Khan works in Saudi Arabia and is currently in India for some personal assignments.
Soon after the victim lodged a complaint, the Sadar Bazar station formed a police team comprising Sub-inspector Vijay Kumar, Head Constables Rohit and Ramesh, and Constable Ajay under the supervision of Inspector Sahdev Singh Tomar. The police team launched a quick investigation, scanned and analysed CCTV footage from the area and swooped on them in just a couple of hours.
Both Saddam and Sameer Khan, residents of the Sadar Bazar area, are active criminals. Their photographs were extracted and shared among the police station staff and also with those employed at different picket points. In the late evening, they were apprehended at the picket point while trying to escape on foot. When they were searched, the snatched mobile phone was recovered.
During interrogation, both confessed to the crime. They have been previously involved in several cases of snatching and other crimes.
Saddam was arrested last month for violating the terms of his externment. He was released from Tihar jail on May 9, and the very next day, he, along with his accomplice, started committing the crime again.

Fresh details have emerged in the investigation into a sex trafficking racket busted at Lucknow's Omaxe Hazratganj apartment on Friday, revealing that the alleged kingpin, 49-year-old Uzbek national Lola Kayumova, underwent seven cosmetic surgeries to alter her appearance and identity. Police on Wednesday said the procedures were part of her attempt to pass off as a 29-year-old NRI (Non-Resident Indian) socialite, helping her operate the racket undetected for years. Lola with alleged live in partner Trijin, both of whom are at large. (Sourced) The surgeries, carried out on her face, lips, underarms, and private parts, were allegedly performed by Dr Vivek Gupta at his Minerva Clinic in Ahmamau, which is now under investigation. Both Kayumova, Dr Gupta, and a third accused, Trijin alias Arjun Rana, remain absconding five days after the case surfaced. 'She wanted to maintain a youthful appearance to project the image of a glamorous, well-off woman and to manipulate both victims and clients,' a senior officer involved in the investigation said. Police said Kayumova brought multiple women from Uzbekistan to India via Nepal under the pretext of providing employment. Once in Lucknow, the women were housed in high-end flats and allegedly forced into sex work. During a raid at Omaxe R1, Flat No 104 in Golf City, two Uzbek women, Holida and Nilofar, were found staying illegally. The two women reportedly told police that Kayumova managed all aspects of the trafficking operation, from recruitment and travel to accommodation and customer coordination. She allegedly encouraged cosmetic procedures for the trafficked women to enhance their appearance, believing it would increase their appeal. Dr Gupta is accused of playing an active role in the racket. 'He knew about the forged papers and their illegal stay in the country, but continued offering services without proper verification,' an officer familiar with the investigation said. Kayumova, Dr Gupta, and Trijin, Kayumova's alleged live-in partner and co-accused, are all untraceable, and their mobile phones remain switched off. Police suspect the trio has fled the city and are now coordinating with central intelligence agencies and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to trace their movements. Kayumova's documents are also under scrutiny. Although her passport expired in 2023, she managed to obtain an Indian driving license with a local address, valid until 2035.

Siddharth, the Udaipur resident accused of raping a French female tourist who had come to visit the city, is now claiming that he was 'honey trapped" by the victim. He made the claim when he was being escorted by the Rajasthan Police officials for legal proceedings. 'Mere saath honeytrap hua hai sir (I have been honey trapped)," he told the reporters before being hushed by the policemen accompanying him. Pushpraj Ojha aka Siddharth was arrested from his residence in Chittorgarh and the tourist had claimed in her first information report (FIR) that he lured her there in the pretext of showing her the sights around the city and then raped her. She was attending a party and the accused had lured her from there to his apartment on Monday (June 23) when the incident happened. The survivor met the accused at a party at The Greek Farm Cafe and Restro located at Tiger Hill. The accused claims that he is part of a larger conspiracy. 'I didn't rape her… It's a conspiracy that has been hatched against me by some industry people as I am an outsider. I was going to surrender only when the police picked me up today," he had said, according to a report by the Hindustan Times. 'Prima facie, the victim had been working for several Indian brands as a background dancer and actor for a long time. She came to Udaipur on Sunday to shoot for a leading electronics brand. Siddharth was part of the same crew," Udaipur superintendent of police (SP) Yogesh Goyal was quoted as saying by the newspaper. In the FIR, the Frenchwoman allegedly repeatedly requested to return to her hotel, but Siddharth allegedly dismissed them. She also claimed that her phone was out of charge. She alleged that once both were inside the apartment the accused attempted to initiate physical contact and upon facing resistance, he allegedly assaulted her sexually. Assam ‘pushed back' 88 alleged foreigners from Cachar to Bangladesh in a month, says CM
The Assam government has ' pushed back ' 88 alleged 'illegal infiltrators' to Bangladesh from Cachar district in one month, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday. Sarma claimed that among persons forced into Bangladesh, 59 are nationals of the country and 29 are Rohingya refugees, who were tracked and identified 'through special operations'. Cachar shares a 32-km-long border with Bangladesh. 'For far too long have illegal infiltrators gone scot free,' the Assam chief minister claimed in a social media post. Many of those 'pushed' into the country claim they are Indian citizens. On Sunday, the state police detained 15 persons, including women and children, in Cachar. They were suspected to be from Bangladesh and have since been housed at a temporary detention facility in Silchar, reported India Today NE. Several of the detainees had been living in Gujarat's Surat but came to Assam in a bid to cross back to Bangladesh amid a heightened crackdown on undocumented migrants, the media outlet quoted an unidentified police officer as saying. On June 9, Sarma said that more than 330 persons who were declared to be foreigners by the state's Foreigners Tribunals have been 'pushed' back into Bangladesh. The Foreigners Tribunals in the state are quasi-judicial bodies that adjudicate on matters of citizenship. They have been accused of arbitrariness and bias, and declaring people foreigners on the basis of minor spelling mistakes, a lack of documents or lapses in memory. On May 20, Sarma said that the state was 'duty-bound to protect the interests" of Assam and ' expel all illegal immigrants from the state through any means and as per directions of [the] Supreme Court'. The chief minister appeared to be referring to the court's February 4 ruling that the state must deport persons who had been declared foreign nationals.
