Champions Lightning beat Thunder to reach Grand Final
Defending champions Lightning were condemned to the preliminary final after they were beaten last week by Pulse, the regular season leaders.

That meant a repeat of last year's Grand Final against Manchester Thunder and hosts Lightning came from behind to win 69-57 on Sunday.
Thunder scored 10 unanswered goals en route to a 19-12 lead after the first quarter, but Lightning did not look back after a blistering second.
After going 27-20 down, Jodie Gibson came on at goal defence to give Lightning a boost, while Samantha Wallace-Joseph did the damage at the other end.
The Trinidad and Tobago shooter converted five two-point super shots during the second quarter to help Lightning into a 37-30 lead at half-time.
Thunder called a tactical timeout at 44-33 down, while South Africa shooter Elmere van der Berg was brought off for the first time all season.

But Lightning still led 52-40 heading into the final quarter and stayed clear to book a rematch with Pulse in next Sunday's Grand Final at London's O2 Arena.
How do Lightning and Pulse match up?
Lightning and Pulse were vying for top spot for much of the regular season, and their direct tussles were fascinating.
In round two, Pulse scored a statement 77-51 victory in Loughborough over the reigning champions, but that result was avenged at the Copper Box in May, when Lightning were 58-53 winners.
Table-topping Pulse took the honours 50-49 in a play-off semi-final nailbiter, and now the teams go at it again.

The Grand Final line-up is the same as in 2023, when Lightning came from behind to win, and big-stage experience weighs heavily in Loughborough's favour.
Pulse topped the regular-season table in 2023, too, but could not finish the job in the play-offs and are still seeking a first NSL title.

Tottenham ready to beat Arsenal and sign Eberechi Eze after opportunity emerges
Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to seize a window of opportunity to beat Arsenal to the signing of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, by putting together an acceptable package for Crystal Palace this week. As reported in the Independent's 'Inside Football' newsletter on Friday, Spurs have ramped up interest in the 27-year-old after the injury to James Maddison, amid a widespread belief that the saga might finally come to a head by the start of the Premier League season. That would coincide with the expiration of Eze's release clause for this window. Arsenal have long been interested in Eze, and are viewed as the Crystal Palace player's first preference, but the fact that no proper transfer bid has yet materialised means there is a chance for Spurs to move forward. Eze is open to the idea, despite Spurs not pressing on interest earlier in the summer. An opportunity has arisen because Arsenal have prioritised other positions first, and have spent much of the summer figuring out how to do all of that business and then bring Eze or one other player in. The view from numerous sources is that Arsenal's preference is to sell first, rather than just take the risk of making such a signing and then being under pressure to sell before the end of the window. Arsenal's stance is also tempered by the idea of bringing in a left winger, since that is one area where they do not have substantial depth. The club may yet feel they should prioritise that over Eze. There has been no official approach to Palace, but clubs have naturally broached potential payment plans. Eze's release clause - understood to be around £68m - expires on 15 August, but only for this window. It is not seen as an obstacle to any deal given that Arsenal have been informally speaking with Palace about alternative structures. Arsenal are open to approaches for Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Jakob Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson. A move for Nelson to Fulham has been discussed, but the player prefers a one-season loan. Much may depend on whether Eze is clear on his own destination, and willing to wait.

Lymm gearing up for challenging season after league reallocation
EIGHT new signings featured for Lymm RFC in their first of three friendlies ahead of a challenging season to be played in a different league with added financial burdens. Lymm, who face a season of more than 4,500 miles of travel to away games, hosted Regional North West 1 side Anselmians on Saturday following a tough, pre-season training programme. A large squad of 42 players took part in a game split over three 30-minute sessions, scoring seven tries and six conversions to Anselmians' three converted tries in a 47-21 win. While generally pleased with the Lymm performance, head coach Andy Davies and defence coach Tom Bray identified areas of the team's game structure that needs improvement. These will hopefully be addressed in this week's training and Saturday's warm-up encounter away to National 2 North club Fylde, kick-off 2.30pm. 'It was a great first hit out against a tough Anselmians team who have improved greatly since we played them last pre-season,' said Davies. 'We had some new and young lads playing who showed up really well. 'Still lots to work on before the season opener so we'll keep on pushing for the remainder of pre-season.' New signings involved on Saturday were forwards Sam Wickes, Sam Beahan, Harry Wasdell, Lewis Stewart, Dalitso Ngoma, Tom Elphick, Dan McQuade and back, Matty Hope. Lymm's final pre-season game is on Friday, August 22 at home to Regional North West 1 club, Stockport, kick-off 7.30pm. The team's 2025/26 season in National League 2 West starts on Saturday, September 6, away to Luctonians. The Rugby Football Union have removed Lymm from National 2 North in which last season they played teams from the north west and Yorkshire and finished third, their highest position ever. Instead they have been moved sidewards into a league still at level four in the English rugby union system but provides semi-professional competition for teams in the midlands and south west. Lymm will be the most northerly club in the competition and will face expensive trips to far-flung clubs such as Exeter in Devon, and Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall. Teams making up National League 2 West in 2025/26: Lymm, Chester, Barnstaple, Camborne, Cinderford, Exeter University, Hinckley, Hornets, Loughborough Students, Luctonians, Old Redcliffians, Redruth, Syston, Taunton Titans. Announcing the sideways move, a Lymm statement reads: 'For a village club like ours – run by volunteers, supported by generous sponsors and powered by players who give their all for the love of the game – this represents one of the biggest logistical and financial challenges in our club's history.' In an act of defiance, veteran cyclist and former Lymm player Paul Foulkes, 75, is determined to raise funds for Lymm Rugby Club by cycling 580k (360 miles) in five days, from Lymm to Redruth. 'I decided I would like to diffuse my annoyance and frustration by turning this into a personal challenge, and cycle the whole distance from Lymm Rugby Club in Cheshire to Redruth Rugby Club in Cornwall,' said Paul, who has been a member, and latterly a vice president, of Lymm RFC, a registered charity, for more than 58 years. 'I hope to arrive in time for the first fixture ever between these two sides on Saturday, September 20. 'As well as being a personal challenge I am hoping people will get behind this gesture of personal defiance, against what I believe is a perverse decision. 'I am hoping the people of Cheshire, and the whole rugby community, will help raise as much as possible for the registered charity that is Lymm Rugby Club, funding not only the first team journeys but also the ongoing development of this brilliant and outstanding, community-based rugby club.' They enjoyed immense success together, including winning the treble in 2022/23. Despite playing a key role in that campaign, Grealish has since fallen out of favour at the Etihad and was open to a move this summer in the hope of reviving his career in a World Cup year. That has led him to Everton, where he is expected to be announced as the sixth signing of the summer to date - following the permanent additions of Carlos Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
