India, Brunei discuss ways to further deepen partnership
Penang [Malaysia], June 10 (ANI): Secretary (East) P Kumaran met Permanent Secretary, Brunei Darussalam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hajah Johariah Binti Abdul Wahab, on the sidelines of East Asia Summit Senior Officials' Meeting (EAS SOM) in Malaysia's Penang on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to further deepen the enhanced partnership between India and Brunei and cooperation under ASEAN and other frameworks.
In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, 'Secretary (East) P. Kumaran met Ms. Hajah Johariah Binti Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary, MoFA of Brunei Darussalam, on the margins of EAS SOM in Penang, Malaysia. The two sides discussed ways to further deepen the Enhanced Partnership between India and Brunei bilaterally, as also cooperation under ASEAN and other frameworks.'

On Monday, Kumaran met Michelle Chan, Deputy Secretary, South and Southeast Asia Group & Head of the Office of Southeast Asia, Australia, at the East Asia Summit Senior Officials' Meeting in Penang, and discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Jaiswal said that the officials discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation bilaterally and under the ASEAN framework.

EAS Senior Officials' Meetings (SOM) and meetings of EAS Ambassadors to ASEAN are held regularly to discuss emerging issues and to prepare for EAS ministerial and Leaders' meetings, and to take forward decisions by EAS leaders, according to Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade statement.
The EAS has 18 members - the 10 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) along with Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States. (ANI)

India Demands Bangladesh "Rein In Terrorists" After Tagore's Home Vandalised
New Delhi: India has strongly condemned the "despicable" and "disgraceful" act of violence and vandalism on poet, polymath, and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, describing the perpetrators of the act as "terrorists". Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home - Kutcherybari - now a museum in Bangladesh's Sirajganj district, was vandalised by a mob on Sunday, following a dispute between a visitor and museum staff over motorcycle parking fee. During the altercation, the visitor was allegedly confined and assaulted. The incident triggered public anger, which led to a protest near the entrance. Soon after, a mob stormed the premises, and damaged the museum and auditorium. 'PATTERN OF SYSTEMATIC ATTEMPTS BY EXTREMISTS' Outraged over the incident, India's Ministry of External Affairs expressed its displeasure and concern. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We strongly condemn the despicable attack and vandalism of the ancestral home of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore by a mob on June 8, 2025," adding that "The violent act is a disgrace to the memory, the inclusive philosophy, and the teachings that the Nobel laureate espoused in Bangladesh." Blaming it on the rise of extremism in Bangladesh in recent times, Mr Jaiswal said, "The attack falls in the broad pattern of systematic attempts made by extremists to erase the symbols of tolerance and eviscerate the syncretic culture and the cultural legacy of Bangladesh." Labeling the offenders as terrorists and demanding that the incident be dealt with strictly, Mr Jaiswal urged the Yunus government "to rein in the terrorists and take strict action against the perpetrators in order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents that sadly have become a repetitive feature." WHAT BANGLADESH HAS DONE SO FAR Though a statement over the incident has not been issued by Dhaka, Bangladeshi authorities have temporarily closed the museum and launched a probe. A three-member committee formed by the Department of Archaeology has been asked to submit a report within five working days. Md Habibur Rahman, the custodian of the Rabindra Kutcherybari museum, said that the site is now completely out of bounds for visitors, adding that the entire premises has been put under surveillance. Meanwhile, several reactions poured in from India. OUTRAGE IN INDIA In a post on X, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called this incident "Shocking and Unacceptable." He added that this is happening "under the silent gaze of Mohammad Yunus's government." He called this "far beyond mere vandalism. It is a premeditated hate crime, an attack on the civilizational spirit and cultural heritage of Bharat." He further added that "Tagore is a global figure, but he remains a treasured symbol of India's soul. What we are witnessing is the ongoing marginalisation of Hindu Bengalis in Bangladesh, their identity, history, and legacy being systematically eroded. The international community cannot afford to remain indifferent. This is a moment that demands attention, condemnation, and action." Shocked over the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to "kindly take up the matter very strongly with the neighbouring country's government, so that no stone is left unturned to swiftly bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous and mindless act." Ms Banerjee mentioned in the letter that "For the people of Bengal, this is an attack on a shared legacy," and that "the invaluable treasure of Bengali language and literature owes significantly to the majestic contributions of Tagore." Rabindra Kutcherybari, now also known as the Rabindra Memorial Museum, was the administrative centre of the Tagore family estate. Purchased in 1840 by Dwarkanath Tagore, Rabindranath's grandfather for 13 rupees and 10 annas during an auction, this property was declared a protected archaeological site in 1969. Constructed in a distinct Indo-European architectural style, the house has seven main rooms, spacious corridors, and a large garden. It faces a river and is surrounded by open fields and greenery. The damaged auditorium is a 500-seat auditorium where many literary and cultural events are hosted - like the annual Rabindra Festival.

Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was among the 242 passengers on the Air India flight bound for London that crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board. One passenger survived the crash. Gautam Adani had earlier paid his condolences over the loss of lives in the plane crash. 'We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragedy of Air India Flight 171. Our hearts go out to the families who have suffered an unimaginable loss. We are working closely with all authorities and extending full support to the families on the ground,' he said in a post on X on Thursday. PM Modi also met with the family of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani earlier in the day. PM Modi said that the former CM was a humble and hardworking person and firmly committed to the party's ideology. 'Met the family of Shri Vijaybhai Rupani Ji. It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I've known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder, including during some of the most challenging times. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Friday confirmed the recovery of the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), commonly referred to as the black box, from the rooftop of a building at the site of the Air India Flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad. The AAIB has launched a full-scale investigation into the crash, with over 40 staff from the Gujarat State Government joining efforts to support the Ministry of Civil Aviation teams on the ground. The black box, a critical piece of evidence, will be analysed to determine the cause of the tragic crash. (ANI)

"Congress and its clown CM'S antics won't deter us": KTR slams Revanth Reddy over ACB summons in Formula E case
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 13 (ANI): BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday, shortly after receiving a notice from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to appear before it on June 16 in connection with alleged irregularities in the Formula E race held in Hyderabad. Taking to X, KTR wrote, 'When you cannot run a government, keep people busy with a circus and distractions! Congress and its clown CM's antics won't deter us.' KTR said that he would cooperate with the ACB officials, asserting that the Rs 44 crore in question was transferred through official banking channels and remains in the Formula E account. 'I have been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to appear for 'investigation' on Monday at 10am, in Formula-E case where 44 crore was transferred from Bank to Bank and the money is very much in the Account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials!' he said. Taking a swipe at Revanth Reddy, KTR invoked the 2015 cash-for-vote scandal, saying, 'Meanwhile, can someone remind me who just completed 10 years of being caught with a Black Bag full of cash?' Challenging Revanth Reddy to a public face-off, KTR proposed a lie detector test, stating, 'Mr. Revant Reddy, As we both are facing an ongoing ACB investigation, Why not both of us take a Lie Detector test in the presence of a Judge, broadcast it on Live Television and let the whole of Telangana decide who's the culprit. Do you have the courage to take the test along with me?' He also criticised the alleged misuse of public funds, saying, 'Why waste crores of public money by repeated enquiries and propaganda, especially when you keep claiming every day that the state is bankrupt.' KTR is accused of making unregulated payments, some of them in foreign currency, during the organisation of the Formula E race in Hyderabad under the previous BRS government. Supporting her brother, BRS MLC K Kavitha condemned the ACB's summons, alleging a political vendetta. 'I strongly condemn the Congress government issuing notices to our Working President KTR again as part of its political agenda. No matter how many conspiracies you hatch, we will continue to expose your failures in the public sphere,' Kavitha said in a post on X. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against KTR and others. The ED initiated the case following the FIR filed by the Telangana ACB in the Formula E funding case. (ANI)
