Tom Cruise's burning parachute jump from last 'Mission: Impossible' sets world record
The fan-favourite 'Mission: Impossible' film series has been going strong since 1996, when Tom Cruise first played secret agent Ethan Hunt. Over the years, fans have watched him save the world again and again - often performing dangerous stunts himself. After breaking several box office records, Tom Cruise's performance in ' Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning ' earned him a Guinness World Record.
He set the record for most burning parachute jumps by an individual after jumping out of a helicopter 16 times with a fuel-soaked chute set ablaze in a stunt for the final instalment in the action franchise, reported Deadline.
"Tom doesn't just play action heroes - he is an action hero!" said Craig Glenday, Guinness World Records editor-in-chief in a statement. "A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It's an honour to be able to recognise his utter fearlessness with this new Guinness World Records title."
Cruise and the stunt team spent weeks preparing for the action in Drakensberg, South Africa, before ascending more than 75,000 feet in the helicopter. The actor then jumped with the flaming parachute, cutting himself free and deploying a backup parachute. For several of the takes, Cruise had a 50-lb. Snorri camera rig attached to his body to get a closer shot of the fiery stunt, as per the outlet.
A behind-the-scenes featurette of the scene revealed all 16 takes after the actor walked through the stunt with the crew. "We're gonna be real smart. I'm not saying be risky. We don't take risks... obviously," said Cruise, reported Deadline.

Meanwhile, 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' is directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. Tom Cruise is back in his renowned role as Ethan Hunt as "The Final Reckoning" teases a dramatic ending to the "Mission: Impossible" series after eight movies.
At the end of 2023's 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning', Ethan is attempting to prevent a formidable AI program known as The Entity from spreading havoc on the globe and slipping into the wrong hands.
In addition to Cruise, the cast includes Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as Luther Strickell, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Esai Morales as the antagonist Gabriel, Shea Wigham as Jasper Briggs, Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas, and Pom Klementieff as the assassin Paris, as per the outlet.

European Union and Culture Fund Continue to Strengthen Zimbabwe's Creative Sector with Four Newly Awarded Grants
The Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust, in partnership with the European Union (EU) Delegation to Zimbabwe, is pleased to announce the awarding of grants for a total amount of USD $27,929.00 to four outstanding Zimbabwean cultural and creative operators under the CreativeACTIONs 2 program — the EU Delegation's flagship cultural initiative in Zimbabwe. The newly awarded grants, ranging from USD $1,598.00 and USD $10,000.00, support a dynamic mix of local and international-facing initiatives that use arts and culture as tools for promoting inclusion, innovation, skills transfer, economic empowerment and global engagement. The four funded projects include: A disability-inclusive visual arts exhibition amplifying the voices and creativity of persons with Albinism through workshops, public showcases and advocacy around accessibility in the arts. A heritage-inspired empowerment project helping 100 women generate income by transforming gemstones into high-value jewellery, in collaboration with the Zimbabwe School of Mines and MMCZ. A mobility grant enabling a young Zimbabwean theatre educator to participate in a knowledge exchange and international capacity-building in Germany. Funding for an international theatre festival and arts platform showcasing Zimbabwean and international talent, further expanding Zimbabwe's cultural footprint and promoting cross-cultural dialogue and sector growth. This latest round of grants builds on the EU and Culture Fund's shared commitment to bolstering Zimbabwe's creative economy by supporting youth, women, and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs),at all career stages from emerging to established through strategic funding of organizations, institutions, events and festivals that expand opportunities within the arts and culture sector. This support also facilitates international cultural exchanges between Zimbabwean creatives and artists in other African countries and EU member states. Since its launch in 2023, CreativeACTIONs 2 has supported 86 projects nationwide with a total investment of USD $1,232,050.00. The initiative has had a meaningful impact on Zimbabwe's creative ecosystem by: Strengthening institutional and individual capacity; Advancing inclusion and representation in the arts; Creating platforms for creative expression, innovation and economic opportunities; Supporting national cultural policies; Facilitating mobility market access for Zimbabwean arts and cultural products. All ten provinces of Zimbabwe have benefited from CreativeACTIONs 2, with projects ranging from community-level empowerment to international collaborations. President Ramaphosa mourns passing of cultural activist and creative visionary Rashid Lombard
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his deep sadness at the passing of renowned photographer, cultural activist and jazz organiser Rashid Lombard, who has passed away at the age of 74. Mr Lombard was an Esteemed Member of the National Order of Ikhamanga (Silver), which he received in 2014 for his excellent contribution to arts and culture and his dedication to promoting jazz music that has put South Africa on the map for many jazz enthusiasts around the world. President Ramaphosa offers his deep condolences to the Lombard family and Mr Lombard's extensive network of friends, comrades and creatives nationally and internationally. Mr Lombard has been the organiser behind the positioning of South Africa through the arts in the North Sea Jazz Festival, Cape Town, now known as the Cape Town International Jazz Festival), and was the Festival Director of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Mr Lombard was born in North End, Gqeberha, and moved to Cape Town in 1962. Originally qualified as an architectural draughtsman, Rashid Lombard became an industrial photographer and later a renowned news and documentary photographer, and photographic artist. He built on his creative media career by becoming an influential jazz promoter and founder of the then Cape Town edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival. President Ramaphosa said: 'We have lost a cultural icon who not only documented our history of struggle but made history in his own right. 'Rashid Lombard's fearless depiction of apartheid's endemic inhumanity and violence and his compassionate focus on the lives of oppressed communities and disadvantaged individuals is a powerful record of our struggle for basic human rights and dignity. 'His creative and entrepreneurial ability gave rise to his establishment of the Cape Town Jazz Festival through which he bolstered South Africa's integration into global culture and linked this prestige event to the development of historically disadvantaged communities. 'Rashid achieved a remarkable feat with his love for the diversity and vibrancy of our nation. 'He did so with passion and humility that endeared him to everyone with whom he interacted and whose lives he touched.
