Potato, the dog, rescued by state police while running on highway
HOLLY TWP., MICH (Fox 2) - A pair of Michigan State Police Troopers made quick work of locating and rescuing Potato on Friday afternoon.
The Troopers spent about 15 minutes searching for and rescuing the 4-year-old Boston Terrier as she was running around on and near I-75 in Holly Township.
Troopers arrived just before 3 p.m. to find numerous citizens chasing a dog across the open freeway travel lanes with traffic speeding by. Once troopers corralled all the loose drivers off the freeway and back to their cars, they set out after the dog.
According to MSP, she was identified by her collar tag as "Potato." Potato was then safety transported --in the front seat of a patrol car-- to her owner off the freeway.
"We know it is a natural instinct to jump out of your car and try to catch a dog on the freeway. The better plan is to call 911 so responders can stop the traffic before someone gets hurt." said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. "Drivers actually make the situation worse as they may chase the dog into the traffic lanes or even run in front of moving traffic themselves."

Sheriff Michael Bouchard had announced the charges during a noon press conference. By 4 p.m., the sheriff said Hardiman was in custody. What we know The two suspects were arrested after authorities said they planted weapons under vehicles at the graduation ceremony for a Pontiac school at United Wholesale Mortgage's sports complex. A 19-year-old has also been arrested, but has not been arraigned yet. Both men allegedly placed packages under vehicles at the venue, which were later discovered to obtain two firearms containing 80 rounds of ammunition between them. Neither suspect is enrolled at the school, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Friday. Sheriff deputies were first dispatched to the venue after a fight broke out between individuals at the ceremony. Working with security at the venue, a preliminary investigation by police uncovered a larger plot. An individual approached police about information from a family member that a Snapchat message previously seen included a threat to shoot up the ceremony. "In our business, we call that a clue," Bouchard said. The details were relayed to police who later found packages underneath vehicles, each containing loaded weapons. One was an AR-style pistol with a round drum that included 40 rounds of ammunition. The second weapon was a semi-automatic Glock handgun with a stick magazine, also containing 40 rounds of ammunition. Both were unregistered. What we don't know Police did not identify the 19-year-old suspect currently in police custody. Bouchard was asked about a motive behind the planned attack, but only said that people "are quick to violence these days." "For whatever reason, they think is the solution, whether it's to go shoot up a school or house of worship, it's hard to figure out what a motive is these days," he said. The Brief A Monroe man was arrested for calling in a false bomb threat on a Spirit Airlines flight from Detroit to Los Angeles. The threat, which claimed a bomb would be smuggled through security, caused the flight to be canceled and investigated, though no explosives were found. DETROIT (FOX 2) - A 23-year-old Monroe man has been arrested for calling in a bomb threat on a Los Angeles-bound Spirit flight out of Detroit on Thursday. John Robinson, 23, was arrested and charged with calling in the threat that delayed the flight on Thursday. According to charging documents, Robinson used a cellphone to call Spirit Airlines and reported the false threat on flight 2145. "I was calling about 2145, because I have information about that flight," he said in the call. "There's gonna be someone who's gonna try to blow up the airport. There's gonna be someone that's gonna try to blow up that flight, 2145." He gave a brief description of the alleged indivdiual and then said they were carrying the bomb through security. "They're going to be carrying a bomb through the TSA," he sai. "They're still threatening to do it, they're still attempted to do it, they said it's not going to be able to be detected. Please don't let that flight board." The plane was immediately canceled and checked with bomb-sniffing dogs. No explosives were ever found. According to authorities, Robinson was booked on flight 2145 and had missed it. The gate agent said he needed to book a new flight. Robinson was arrested when he returned to the airport for another flight bound for Los Angeles. What they're saying "Anyone who threatens to bomb an aircraft and endanger public safety will be swiftly investigated and brought to justice," said Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office. "The alleged bomb threat prompted a coordinated response by our FBI Detroit Joint Terrorism Task Force, in partnership with the Wayne County Airport Authority Police Department and the U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service, leading to the arrest of John Robinson as he attempted to board another flight at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. We remain committed to protecting the public and confronting those who seek to spread fear in our communities." Robinson was released on bond after appearing in federal court. Fatal crash shuts Route 3 in Tyngsborough, drivers asked to avoid the area
Part of Route 3 was shut down in Tyngsborough temporarily Friday afternoon as police investigated a fatal crash on the highway. According to Massachusetts State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. at mile marker 89. One person was killed in the crash, according to MSP, and three others received serious injuries. Tyngsborough Police Department said in a statement shortly after 3 p.m. that they were 'actively responding to and investigating a crash on Route 3' alongside Massachusetts State Police and the entire area was shut down. The department said in a second statement just after 3:30 p.m. that the road had reopened, but the northbound lanes just prior to exit 88 remained closed. Drivers were asked to avoid Route 3 as the investigation continues. No other information was immediately available.
