Celtic set for player partnership with Ayr United

Glasgow Times3 days ago
The move comes after a proposed agreement with Queen's Park fell through due to financial concerns at the Glasgow club.
Celtic have instead approached Ayr United, managed by former club captain Scott Brown, as part of a wider plan to improve first-team opportunities for young players under new Scottish FA rules.
The SFA now allows clubs to enter cooperation agreements that let up to three players move freely between a parent club and a partner club to gain first-team experience.
Queen's Park, one of Scotland's oldest senior clubs, must reduce spending from £5.7 million to around £1 million following the withdrawal of backing from Lord Willie Haughey and City Facilities Management.
With that option no longer available, Celtic turned their attention to Ayr United.
Rangers are also expected to announce a partnership, with Raith Rovers in the Championship tipped as their likely partner.

Bridge of Allan rugby star ready for first Test as Wallabies cauldron awaits

The Scotland fly-half has been named in the British and Irish Lions side to take on Australia in Brisbane. Finn Russell is ready to take centre stage tomorrow morning as he aims to guide the British and Irish Lions to success Down Under. ‌ The Bridge of Allan boy has been named in the coveted number ten shirt for the select side as they take on the first of three Test matches against Australia at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. ‌ It marks the latest step in a special summer for Russell after guiding his club side Bath to European and domestic success, before being heavily tipped to be the Lions' starting fly-half for the Wallabies clashes. ‌ The 32-year-old has been stellar on the tour so far, impressing in an unblemished record for his starts against Western Force, Queensland Reds and the ACT Brumbies. He has also booted over 29 points across those three matches. ‌ With Lions head coach Andy Farrell naming his side earlier this week, that has now been confirmed - and there will be some familiar faces for Russell to work with as the Scotland centre partnership Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones will also start the match. They are the only three Scottish players in the 23-man squad selected for the match, with the team overwhelmingly made up of Irish and English representatives. Alongside his Scotland team-mates at inside and outside centre, Russell will resume his partnership with Ireland scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park, with the wingers made up of Ireland's James Lowe and Englishman Tommy Freeman. ‌ Irishman Hugo Keenan will start at full-back with the injury to Scotsman Blair Kinghorn. Speaking ahead of the momentous clash in Brisbane, Farrell said: 'We are entering the business end of the Tour and it is time to put in our best performance to date. 'We know how motivated the Wallaby team will be and we know they are a well organised and dangerous side. 'It is a great occasion and a proud moment for Maro Itoje, who will captain the Test side, but also for those players who get the opportunity to represent the group on Saturday night. 'We have seen a flood of Lions supporters on the streets of Brisbane this week and we are looking forward to seeing a sea of red in the stands of the Suncorp Stadium cheering on the team.' After Saturday's first Test, the Lions will play their final 'warm-up' matches against the First Nations & Pasifika XV on Tuesday, before the final two matches against the Wallabies in Melbourne on July 26 and in Sydney on August 2.

Everyone is familiar with the classic sausage roll or cheese and onion pasty but did you know the Empire Biscuit is only available north of the border? They said: "Historically, our regional bakeries had responsibility for making their own products, which resulted in some local Greggs delicacies. "Some of these were so popular that as the business has grown, we are still selling them today." Elsewhere in the UK, Meat and Potato Pies can only be scoffed in Manchester while the London Cheesecake can be purchased in the southeast of England. We previously revealed that customers were left heartbroken after a much-loved staple was axed, however there are plenty of other mouthwatering treats. And Scottish Sun man JORDAN TENNANT was crust the man to try out the Scottish offerings. SCOTCH PIE I'VE eaten more Scotch Pies over the years than I care to remember. And Greggs is definitely up there with the best for its generous filling. The crust is crisp and the meat is mouthwatering with a stunning spice. Only available in Scotland, the northeast of England has Savoury Mince Pie - we'll stick with the real thing. 6 The Scotch Pie has a golden crust and is filled with stunning Credit: Michael Schofield PINEAPPLE CAKE IT wasn't just a burst of flavour I got from these sweet treats. The Pineapple cake also brought back a burst of nostalgia from devouring them as a kid. Chelsea fans in meltdown as club announce star's free transfer to Liverpool

Chelsea recently won the UEFA Conference League and followed it up with the FIFA World Club Cup - but the admin for their Women's team account on Twitter won't be winning any awards for Friday's shenanigans It was an interesting joke - but perhaps Chelsea won't be doing similar in the future. ‌ In a social media post on Twitter from the club's official account, Chelsea FC Women announced the transfer of Sam Kerr to Liverpool. Cue meltdown among supporters. ‌ The declaration, made bang on 1.45pm, came with no preamble. No warning. It simply just stated: 'Sam Kerr has joined Liverpool on a permanent transfer.' Replies promptly arrived, supporters shocked and stunned by the news. ‌ 'Stop it Admin, my heart stopped for a few secs' wrote one fan. 'That's unacceptable' said another. 'WHAT????????' declared a third. Needless to say, fans weren't particularly pleased at the thought of one of their biggest stars - albeit one who missed pretty much all of last season due to injury - moving to join a major rival. Within three minutes, clarification arrived from the Chelsea admin that it had in fact been a joke and that the Matildas captain - who joined Chelsea in 2020 from the Chicago Red Stars - wasn't in fact going anywhere. ‌ They quote tweeted Liverpool's post, announcing the permanent signing of Scottish namesake Sam Kerr from Bayern Munich - having been on loan since January - with the caption; 'Ohhhhhh you thought…' 'Okay that was a stressful couple seconds not gonna lie!' declared one comment. ‌ 'Had me for a second..' said another. A third joked: 'This is July!!! We are not in April anymore!!' Of course, this being Elon Musk's Twitter, - ahem, X - there are still plenty of messages arriving to the first message, unable to believe that Chelsea's Kerr is being moved on.
