Mother of Zara Qairina denies claims on social media
PETALING JAYA : Lawyers representing the mother of Zara Qairina Mahathir, the 13-year-old student who died after allegedly falling from her hostel in Papar, Sabah, have urged the public to stop spreading false claims about the incident.
They said Noraidah Lamat never made any statement linking Zara Qairina's death to any high-profile individual or VVIP, dismissing such speculation as baseless and untrue.
They also dismissed claims on social media that Zara Qairina had shouted 'you're a murderer' at another student on the day of the incident, and that three students from SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan were transferred following her death.
The lawyers said Noraidah had no knowledge of such events.
'These claims only came to her attention after they went viral online,' they said in a statement.
They warned that the spread of misinformation could interfere with the ongoing police investigation and cause unnecessary distress to the family and others affected by the case.
They also called on anyone with information that could assist the police with their investigation to come forward, while reminding the public to refrain from making unverified statements.
Zara Qairina, a Form 1 student, was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her hostel. She died the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Johor police will file two charges against the father of six-year-old A Tishant, whose body was found buried in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan, last month. State police chief M Kumar said the 36-year-old man will be charged in a Johor Bahru court with assaulting his wife and filing a false missing person's report, Utusan Malaysia reported. However, he said, the charges will only be filed after the murder probe by the Jempol police headquarters is completed. 'In Johor, the investigation against the suspect only involves Sections 323 and 324 of the Penal Code; Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code for allegedly assaulting his wife, as well as Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. 'We have already received instructions to charge the suspect, and this will be done after the murder investigation under Section 302 is completed,' he was quoted as saying at a press conference at the Johor police headquarters today. Tishant was reported missing in Taman Bukit Indah, Iskandar Puteri, on July 24. His body was found four days later, after his father's arrest. An autopsy revealed the boy was strangled with a cable tie. Kumar said police first received a report from the suspect's wife on July 22, alleging domestic abuse and that the man had taken their only child away. He said the suspect was arrested but later released on police bail. He then filed a report claiming he had left his son alone in the car and returned to discover that the boy was missing. However, inconsistencies in his statement led to his re-arrest and, after further questioning, the child's body was discovered.

Mother files new police report over bruising on Zara Qairina's body
Noraidah KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): The mother of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir has lodged a fresh police report after recalling possible signs of physical trauma on her daughter's body — nearly three weeks after her tragic death at a school hostel in Papar. Noraidah Lamat filed the report at the Sipitang police station on Sunday, stating she had remembered seeing bruises on Zara's back while preparing her body for burial. Her legal counsel, Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, said the memory was triggered during questioning about the state of Zara's body during the Islamic funeral washing ritual at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I on July 17. 'Our client did not mention this earlier because she had completely forgotten due to her overwhelming grief,' they said in a statement. The lawyers asserted that this new detail warrants a fresh investigation into Zara Qairina's death, despite recent remarks by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who said the police had completed their probe and would submit the investigation papers to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) next week. 'Zara Qairina's grave must be exhumed, and a post-mortem must be carried out to determine the exact cause of death and the possibility of foul play,' the lawyers urged. Meanwhile, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun confirmed that four police reports have been filed in relation to the case, including the one lodged by Noraidah. He added that the investigation paper is currently undergoing a final review at Bukit Aman before being referred to the AGC. 'Any further action will depend on the AGC once the case file is submitted,' he said. Zara Qairina, a student at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan in Papar, was found unconscious around 4am on July 16, believed to have fallen from the third floor of her dormitory. She succumbed to her injuries the next day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital.
