Cristiano Ronaldo sends son message after he's watched by Man Utd scout

Cristiano Ronaldo had a simple message for his son after the teenager took to the international stage for Portugal for the first time as he came off the bench in a tournament in Croatia
Cristiano Ronaldo has congratuled his son after the young star made his international bow for Portugal. The 14-year-old made his debut from the bench for the nation's under-15 side in the Vlatko Markovic international tournament in Croatia.
And already Cristiano Ronaldo Jr was able to flash his talents to a Manchester United scout after featuring against Japan, per reports. The starlet entered the field after 54 minutes and donned the no.7 shirt his father was at home in.

Tottenham were also said to be in attendance at the youth tournament. Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti suggested that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Red Bull Salzburg, Inter Milan, Juventus and Atalanta all had representatives covering the game too.

Ronaldo Jr will be familiar to faces at United having been part of the youth set-up during his father's second spell at the club but currently plays within Al-Nassr's academy. The teenager played alongside Wayne Rooney's son, Kai, while learning his trade at Carrington.
Ronaldo Sr has earned 219 caps in his international career and the 40-year-old was pleased to see his son earn his first minutes of a fledgling career. The Portugal legend was proud of his eldest child.
Ronaldo Jr is in the fairly unique position of being eligible to play for three different nations. After following his dad as he completed transfers around the world, the young star of course qualfies for Portugal through his dad, but qualifies for Spain after spending much of his youth there when Ronaldo played for Real Madrid.
The United States could yet come calling for the teen as Ronaldo Jr was born in California and it is reported he could represent the country as a result. Any desire for an England career can quickly be quashed however as he would have needed to spend five years in the country to qualify.

Ronaldo Jr trained two years above his age group upon arriving at the Mahd Academy in 2023, and reportedly could have returned to Real Madrid. Perhaps another academy move could be on the cards however.
Ronaldo Sr's future at Al-Nassr appears unclear after talks of a contract extension were "put on hold". The ex-Juventus and United star was tipped to sign a new two-year deal but an underwhelming year from the club appears to have instigated some doubts.
Ronaldo has continued to find success in front of goal but it has not been matched with silverware for Al Nassr. Now talk of move to rival club like Al Hilal, who have qualified for the Club World Cup, has emerged.
Marca claims Ronaldo is questioning his future and after losing 3-2 to table toppers Al-Ittihad last week, the veteran stormed off the pitch. It is said to not be well received by the club's hierarchy.

Ruben Amorim warned over 'massive' Man Utd dilemma as veteran backed for surprise return

Altay Bayindir's error gifted Arsenal a 1-0 win over Manchester United in their opening Premier League fixture, and Ruben Amorim has been urged to sort the club's goalkeeper crisis Ruben Amorim is facing a goalkeeping conundrum after Altay Bayindir's blunder in Manchester United 's loss to Arsenal. The club's woes between the sticks worsened on Sunday when Turkish international Bayindir flapped at a first-half corner, allowing Riccardo Calafiori to score the only goal of the match. ‌ Regular No. 1 Andre Onana was absent for the Premier League clash at Old Trafford after a hamstring injury saw him miss pre-season. The former Inter Milan keeper has also been under constant scrutiny for his performances since joining in July 2023. ‌ When asked in his post-Arsenal press conference if he should have selected veteran shot-stopper Tom Heaton, who shone during the summer friendlies, instead of Bayindir, Amorim became rather defensive. However, that's exactly what ex-United and Wrexham shot-stopper Ben Foster believes the Portuguese head coach should do for their next game at Fulham this Sunday. ‌ That is despite the fact that the 39-year-old former Burnley star hasn't played in the Premier League since the beginning of 2020. While Foster thinks Heaton would be the most suitable short-term option, he has reiterated his recent call for United to sign either Emiliano Martinez or Gianlugii Donnarumma before the summer transfer window closes in less than two weeks or risk another disappointing season. Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, Foster said: "This is a massive problem for the next game. It asks all sorts of questions and there's going to be so much talk surrounding it coming into that next game. "Do you start with Bayindir, whose confidence will be low now after the first game? With Onana, people will be going, 'Well, he's not much better.' There's a lot of pressure. Tom Heaton, I would trust him to give me a six-and-a-half out of 10 performance. "It just forces Man United's hand to go and sign a proper goalkeeper. I think if you can get a Martinez or a Donnarumma, you've just got to do it. If you sign that player, it's going to be the difference between mid-table misery or really pushing for that top six." ‌ Despite the goalkeeping crisis at United, Amorim seemed satisfied with his current options when questioned about the situation after the Arsenal match. Amorim said: "I'm happy with the three goalkeepers. He [Bayindir] chooses to get the ball, but he's getting pushed. That is my feeling when I see the play. ‌ "You choose to push a player [out of the way] or to get the ball in that moment. He needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not push players. He chooses to push players and will let the ball pass." Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has also given a scathing assessment of Bayindir's performance during the club's opening Premier League fixture. Speaking on Rio Presents, the United icon expressed serious reservations about the ex-Fenerbahce keeper. "What I would say is that it was a cheap goal," he said. "We gave away a goal. The keeper has got to be better. He'll be hugely disappointed, because this was his chance. "The manager has gone with him and backed him and he's had, really, one thing to do in his penalty area and he didn't pass the test." Chelsea agree transfer deal to sell forgotten defender after just 12 months

Chelsea have reached an agreement to sell Renato Veiga to Villarreal, according to reports. Veiga joined Chelsea on a seven-year contract from FC Basel just 12 months ago, for a fee thought to be in the region of £12million. But the versatile defender failed to secure regular playing time under Enzo Maresca and was sent on loan to Serie A giants Juventus in January, where he went on to make 15 appearances in all competitions. Though Veiga did his reputation no harm with a string of assured displays at the heart of Juve's defence, he returned to Stamford Bridge from Turin with his immediate future up in the air earlier this summer. The Blues made it clear they would be unable to guarantee the 22-year-old a regular starting role for the 2025/26 campaign, prompting his camp to begin sounding out potential suitors around Europe. Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have all been credited with an interest, but Villarreal have asserted themselves as the overwhelming favourites to land the Portugal international – who is comfortable operating at both centre-back and in central midfield. According to Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal's discussions have advanced at a pace in recent days and the La Liga outfit have now struck a deal with both Veiga's camp and Chelsea over a €29.5million (£25.5m) package, including add-ons. It's claimed the deal will include a 'heavy' sell-on clause, with Chelsea set to retain a significant percentage of any future transfer fee should the player be sold on again. The move would see Veiga become Villarreal's club-record signing, surpassing Arnaut Danjuma's €23.5m (£20.4m) switch from Bournemouth four years ago. There had still been six years remaining on Veiga's contract at Stamford Bridge, which he signed upon arrival from Basel. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Veiga was left out of Chelsea's first-team squad for their Club World Cup campaign and it was clear the Portuguese was not a part of Maresca's plans for the season. There was no place for Veiga on the substitutes bench as Chelsea were held to a goalless draw in their opening match of the Premier League season with Crystal Palace. It was only last October that Maresca singled Veiga out for special praise after handing the defender a rare start in Chelsea's Europa Conference League defeat of Panathinaikos. More Trending 'I just said to Renato, he has played already as a centre-back, a full-back, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder,' Maresca told reporters at the time. 'He has already played four or five positions. One of my first press conferences, I said that the reason why I really like and love Chelsea is because many players can be versatile. 'Today, in my idea, if they can play different positions, then it is better for the team and especially for the players. Today, if you just play one position, I don't think it's enough. 'You need to learn more positions. Renato, Malo [Gusto], they are playing in different positions and they are doing well.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Tiger Woods takes up PGA role but unification in golf is as distant as ever

Tiger Woods will chair a newly created PGA Tour committee aimed at reshaping golf's competitive landscape in the United States. But comments made by Brian Rolapp, the Tour's newly appointed chief executive, showed that unification between the sport's traditional ecosystem and the Saudi Arabian-backed LIV circuit is as distant as ever. Woods, who has not competed since the 2024 Open Championship because of injury, was the headline name when Rolapp addressed the media in Atlanta on the eve of the Tour Championship. Just three weeks into office, the chief executive has formed a future competition committee that will also feature Patrick Cantlay and Adam Scott. Rolapp seems clear that the tournament landscape has to change. 'The purpose of this committee is pretty simple,' Rolapp explained. 'We're going to design the best professional golf competitive model in the world for the benefit of PGA Tour fans, players and their partners. It is aimed at a holistic relook of how we compete. That is inclusive of regular season, post-season and off-season. 'We're going to focus on the evolution of our competitive model and the corresponding media products and sponsorship elements and model of the entire sport. The goal is not incremental change. The goal is significant change.' Creation of a meaningful break between PGA Tour seasons and guarantees that the most high-profile players will play in top events seem logical starting points for Woods. Press conferences such as this once tended to focus on progress on a deal between the PGA Tour and Saudi's Public Investment Fund. A framework agreement was signed between the parties in summer 2023 with the supposed aim of uniting elite golf. Progress, though, has been slow; the PGA Tour rejected various concession requests made by the PIF in late March, in exchange for $1.5bn of investment. Key figures in this sport such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka play under the LIV banner and are therefore key absentees from the PGA Tour. Rolapp admitted he has not held discussions with the PIF. 'My primary focus is going to be on strengthening the Tour,' he said. 'Blank sheet of paper means blank sheet of paper. Whatever does that, I'll pursue aggressively. That's how I view it.' At the Players Championship five months ago, the PGA Tour's commissioner Jay Monahan revealed 70% of fans surveyed wanted unification with LIV. Rolapp echoed that sentiment in June. Pressed on whether he agreed golf spectators want to see the best in the game compete against each other more often, Rolapp appeared to backtrack. He said: 'Yeah, golf fans want to see the best competition possible in the sport that they love in a competitive model that makes sense.' Subsequently challenged on whether or not unification should be a priority, the chief executive seemed to rail against 'a LIV question'. He added: 'I'm going to focus on what I can control. I would offer to you that the best collection of golfers in the world are on the PGA Tour. I think there's a bunch of metrics that demonstrate that, from rankings to viewership to whatever you want to pick. I'm going to lean into that and strengthen that. 'I will also say that to the extent we can do anything that's going to further strengthen the PGA Tour, we'll do that. I'm interested in exploring whatever strengthens the PGA Tour.' Sign up to The Recap The best of our sports journalism from the past seven days and a heads-up on the weekend's action after newsletter promotion As he seeks to complete a sensational season with victory at the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup, Scottie Scheffler dismissed parallels with the once imperious Woods. The world No 1 has won five times in 2025, including at two majors, to separate himself as the dominant figure in golf. 'It's very silly to be compared to Tiger Woods,' Scheffler said. 'Tiger is a guy that stands alone in the game of golf and I think he always will. Tiger inspired a whole generation of golfers. You've grown up watching that guy do what he did week in, week out, it was pretty amazing to see.' Scheffler did credit Woods with a role in his development after being in the 15-time major winner's company at the 2020 Masters. 'I've only played one round of tournament golf with Tiger Woods and it completely changed the way I look at how I play tournaments,' Scheffler said. 'I can't tell you the look on his face when we got to the 1st green. I look over, and we're in 20th place, kind of playing, yada, yada, yada, and I look over and this guy is just locked in. I was taken aback. I was like, holy smokes. Then we got to the 2nd hole, and he had this chip shot and he looked at it like it was an up-and-down to win the tournament. I'm like: 'This is incredible. I've never seen anything like this before in my life.''
