Despite no Caitlin Clark, Fever-Sky broadcast drew nearly 2 millions viewers

When the WNBA national schedule was announced last March, one of the most potentially significant games from a viewership perspective was the June 7 game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky on CBS. The meeting was the league's first-ever regular-season primetime game on national television — and it was no coincidence that CBS and the WNBA worked together to feature a game involving Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
Games airing on network television entities such as CBS or ABC bring more eyeballs, given network reach over cable, and reach is very important for the growth of any pro sports league. The game was one of eight regular-season games the CBS television network was scheduled to air during the 2025 WNBA season.

Of course by the time the game rolled around, Clark had been sidelined with a quad injury — a bummer for the audience. The game itself was also not close: The Fever dismantled the Sky 79-52 at the United Center despite missing Clark and head coach Stephanie White.
How did the game do viewership-wise? CBS said on Tuesday it had averaged 1.924 million viewers, making it the third most-watched WNBA game on any network this season. Sports Media Watch noted it was the eighth-largest WNBA regular-season audience since 2001, and the 10th-largest including the playoffs. Of those games, it was the second-most watched that did not include Clark, behind Game 5 of last year's WNBA Finals.
The most-watched game this season was also contested by these two teams: The Fever's 93-58 win over the Sky on May 17 drew 2.7 million viewers on ABC. That set a record for the most-viewed WNBA regular-season game across ESPN networks and is believed to be the most-viewed WNBA regular-season game in 25 years, since the era when NBC aired the WNBA. The Fever-Liberty on CBS drew 2.22 million viewers and is the second most-watched game of the 2025 season.
These data points give you an immediate sense of Clark's popularity (newsflash: it's massive). It also is a nice story for the league in that they drew nearly 2 million viewers in a game Clark did not play. Last June, the Fever and Sky drew 2.25 million viewers for a CBS game, which at the time marked the WNBA's most-watched game in 23 years.

Big picture: The numbers continue the trend from last year when the WNBA had 22 regular-season games that averaged more than one million viewers — the first time since 2008 that a WNBA game topped one million viewers.

All Eyes on Caitlin Clark Ahead of Major Injury Update Thursday

All Eyes on Caitlin Clark Ahead of Major Injury Update Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever appeared somewhat disjointed in their first two games without Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined with a left quadriceps strain for the past week. Advertisement However, in Clark's third missed game on Tuesday night, the Fever looked much more composed and secured a much-needed 85-76 win over the Washington Mystics led by Kelsey Mitchell, improving their record to 3–4 on the season. Now, with Clark just over a week into the minimum two-week recovery timeline, some notable news has emerged: she is scheduled to speak to the media on Thursday for the first time since the injury, where she is expected to provide an update on her rehab progress. Fever/Pacers reporter Scott Agness reported, "Caitlin Clark is scheduled to speak with reporters on Thursday to provide an update on her status + recovery after being sidelined with a left quad strain the past three games." Fans quickly reacted to the news, with all eyes now turning to Caitlin Clark as anticipation builds for her return to the court. Advertisement "Hope Caitlin's recovery is on track!" A fan said. Someone else added, "im nervous." Another fan posted, "here we go ccfc...." "Why does this make me nervous," a fan shared. One more fan commented, "Dear Basketball gods if you're listening." This upcoming update is crucial, as it has now been nine days since Clark was ruled out with the injury. If her recovery continues on track, a return could be possible as early as next week. NBA Legend Issues Warning to WNBA Over Fever Star Caitlin Clark's Return

NBA Legend Issues Warning to WNBA Over Fever Star Caitlin Clark's Return originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has missed the last five games after suffering an injury, but the return could be in sight for last season's WNBA Rookie of the Year. Advertisement When she returns, one NBA legend believes the rest of the WNBA could be in trouble. Clark and Fever teammates Natasha Howard and Aliyah Boston sat courtside for Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, cheering on the Indiana Pacers as they looked to take a lead in the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Announcer Richard Jefferson pointed out Clark, issuing a warning once she can get back on the court with her teammates. "When they get back on the floor, they're going to be an absolute problem," Jefferson said. Clark has been sidelined since suffering a quad strain in the team's game against the New York Liberty on May 24. Advertisement Fever head coach Stephanie White said this week that Clark has progressed through rehab, but she still needs time to get back into the flow of practice and game settings. White added that Clark needs to keep moving forward and not risk re-aggravating the injury. "The most important thing for us is to not position ourselves to have any setbacks," White said. "And so what she's been doing is some on-the-court workouts, and she got into a little bit of practice yesterday in a controlled environment, and we'll continue to build on that." It's not clear when Clark could return to the court. The Fever next take the floor on Saturday against the Liberty.
