Vivendi stock rises as AMF requires buyout offer for minority shareholders

Yahoo18-07-2025
(Reuters) -Shares in Vivendi rose by up to 12.5% in early trade, on Friday, after the French financial regulator, or AMF, said majority shareholder Vincent Bolloré and its holding company Bolloré SE would have to launch a public buyout offer.
The AMF said Vincent Bolloré and its holding company will have to file a squeeze-out offer within six months, requiring it to buy all the shares owned by minority shareholders to delist Vivendi from the stock exchange.
The process will only close after the French Supreme Court rules on pending appeals, it said.

Russia's Secret War and the Plot to Kill a German CEO

On a clear night at the end of April 2024, arsonists slipped into a tidy residential neighborhood in Hermannsburg, a German village of about 8,000 people surrounded by flat farm fields, heathland nature reserves and military bases. Under the cover of darkness, they arrived at a large redbrick home, where they set fire to a clapboard garden house and a towering beech tree out front. They escaped undetected before the fire brigade arrived. Neighbors awoke the next morning to the smell of still-smoldering wood. The home belonged to Armin Papperger, the chief executive officer of Rheinmetall AG, Germany's largest defense company. Papperger, a stocky, white-haired 62-year-old engineer, wasn't home at the time. In fact, he hadn't been there since 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, local residents say. The war had made Papperger a busy man: He was turning a sleeping industrial giant into an international defense juggernaut on track to bring in almost €10 billion ($11.6 billion) in revenue that year. Rheinmetall had already provided Ukraine with armored vehicles, military trucks and ammunition, and Papperger had recently announced plans to set up four weapons production sites inside the country.

Valve founder Gabe Newell just purchased a superyacht company

Valve founder Gabe Newell is setting out on a new adventure — and it doesn't involve Half-Life 3. Instead, Newell is acquiring Oceanco, the yacht-building company that's creating his $400 million super ship, as reported earlier by Boat International. In a post about the change, Oceanco says Newell's interest in the brand comes from a 'lifelong fascination with the sea' and 'a deep respect for the people who live and work on it.' Oceanco is based in the Netherlands, and it has changed leadership a few times since its founding in 1987, with private investor Mohammed Al Barwani helming the company for the past 15 years before Newell came along. Along with Newell's 364-foot-long superyacht, Oceanco developed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' $500 million sailing yacht, Koru, which stretches 417 feet long. It's also behind the Kaos sailing superyacht owned by Walmart heir Nancy Walton Laurie, as well as the Bravo Eugenia, owned by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Newell has a growing fleet of yachts as well, including the Oceanco-built Draak (formerly called the Tranquility) and the Rocinante superyacht, built by German yacht-maker Lürssen. As for what Newell plans to do now that he's the head of a big superyacht builder, Oceanco puts it pretty simply: 'His first decision? Leave the team alone. Seriously. Oceanco has vision and integrity, and a culture that actually works. Gabe doesn't want to fix it, he wants to fuel it.'
