Saquon Barkley unveiled as ‘Madden NFL 26' cover star with famous backwards hurdle
It's only right that Saquon Barkley and his otherworldly moves are gracing the cover of the next 'Madden' video game.
Barkley had a superb first season with the Eagles in 2024-25 which culminated in a Super Bowl victory. Through 2,005 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns, he made many video-game-like moves, but the backwards hurdle he pulled off leapt above every other moment.

'This last season's been everything. Having the year that we were able to have as a team, win the Super Bowl, create iconic moments' Barkley said in a video promoting the game and his cover. 'It starts with imagination — being a kid, having those moments, playing video games and saying 'Why can't I do it in real life?''

Barkley caught a pass in the flats from Jalen Hurts during a Week 9 matchup against Jacksonville, made a move that wound up with his back turned to Jaguars defender Jarrian Jones, then proceeded to leap off the field and clear Jones blindly.
He stuck the landing and wound up gaining 14 yards on the play.

'Saquon's reverse hurdle was one of the rare, defining moments in NFL history that would have once been described as 'something out of a video game,'' said Evan Dexter, vice president of franchise strategy and marketing for EA Sports Madden NFL.

The former Giant's name is already etched in history as a Super Bowl champion and just the ninth player to ever rush for 2,000 yards in a season — now, the craftiest move of his career will be etched in history, too.
'It's a display of the athleticism and creativity of one of football's most electrifying athletes,' Dexter said. 'Madden NFL 26 will deliver the most real NFL experience we've ever built so that players can experience more of the unreal moments that Saquon put on display all season long.'

Barkley also joined rare air in the 'Madden 99 Club,' meaning he received the game's highest rating of 99.
'Starring on the cover of Madden NFL 26 and being named to the Madden NFL '99 Club' are both dreams come true,' Barkley said. 'I'm grateful to my teammates, coaches and Eagles fans for their support, and I can't wait to hit the field again to give Madden players more highlight-reel moments in Madden NFL 26.'
All that's left now for Eagles fans is to hope that the 'Madden Curse' isn't still alive.

"I think highly of him. I really do. He is really good," Saleh told reporters earlier this week. "You get jaded sometimes, I think, when you're looking at certain players for a certain amount of time. As a new face coming in and seeing Brock, [he's] pretty damn good. I can see where you get so used to seeing it, it becomes the standard, and you're always trying to elevate it, but not every head coach or not every organization is able to look at their quarterback and compare them to Brock. Brock is a damn good quarterback. I try not to poorly on other quarterbacks around the league, but he's one of the better ones." In three seasons, Purdy has led the 49ers to the postseason twice, which is two more times than any quarterback has done for the Jets since 2010. Bringing a team to multiple NFC championship games and a Super Bowl while still on your rookie deal is an impressive feat, even if Purdy has had talented players around him. It has to be great for 25-year-old to hear this praise from a coach who's been outside the building and has watched him from afar and will now get a chance to test him in practice. Belmont Stakes to be run at Saratoga Race Course again in 2026, a third time in a row
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The Belmont Stakes is set to be run at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York for a third consecutive year in 2026. Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York Racing Association announced Friday that it will be the third and last time the Triple Crown finale is held there before returning to Belmont Park on Long Island in 2027. 'Saratoga has served our fans and stakeholders extremely well as the temporary home of the Belmont Stakes during the construction of a new Belmont Park on Long Island,' NYRA president and CEO David O'Rourke said. 'Belmont Park will always be the home of the Belmont Stakes and we look forward to its return to the newly reimagined Belmont in 2027.' It was confirmation of an expected extension of the race's stay at Saratoga while Belmont Park undergoes nearly a half-billion dollar renovation project . It is on track to reopen in September 2026, with the Breeders' Cup returning to New York at Belmont Park in the fall of 2027. The Belmont will again be run at 1 1/4 miles instead of its traditional 1-1/2 mile distance that has been known as the 'test of the champion.' "Every time I see that clip, I'm so pissed" - Charles Barkley is still mad that the NBA fined him for trying to break up the famous Larry Bird-Julius Erving fight
Back in November 1984, the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers clashed in a regular-season game that played out with playoff-level tension. The two titans of the Eastern Conference were no strangers to hostility. And that night at The Spectrum in Philly, emotions boiled over in a blink. Advertisement The night was billed as another chapter in their classic rivalry, but what unfolded would be remembered more for fists than for finesse. The chaos After an altercation involving two future Hall of Famers, Larry Bird and Julius Erving, punches were thrown. Arms flailed. Benches cleared. They went at it like bitter rivals instead of All-Star teammates from just months earlier on the 1984 Olympic selection tour. But amid the chaos stood a young Charles Barkley, barely into his rookie season. He wasn't trying to join the brawl. In his own telling, he was trying to stop it. "I was so mad that they fined me in that situation," Barkley said, still with repugnance in his voice many decades later. "Every time I see that clip, I'm so pissed because, first of all, I would never hold anybody. When a fight breaks out, you grab somebody, trying to break it up. But nobody grabbed Doc." But Chuck got fined, too. For what he claims was simply an attempt to break it all up. "When they called me to the commissioner's office," Barkley recalled. "I requested a meeting because I got fined. That meeting didn't sway the league. The fine stood. And for Barkley, the whole thing has remained a sore spot, not just because of the money, but because of the principle. At the time, Charles was only 21 years old, a rising rookie still finding his place among seasoned vets like Erving, who was winding down an iconic career. Barkley had grown up viewing Erving as his boyhood hero, and now he was sharing the court and locker room with him. That made the brawl even more bizarre for Barkley, who would later become one of the most outspoken and entertaining voices in NBA history.
