Monokultur's ‘Healthy Habits' is a Cheeky Swipe at Doomscrolling
Apr 13, 2025
Berlin-based Lebanese-born DJ and producer Monokultur just released his debut EP, 'Healthy Habits', a cheeky commentary on the monotonous reality of everyday life, where each track serves as a sonic detox from the detrimental side effects of doomscrolling.
Released on Byblos' Feedasoul Records, the three-track EP pairs playful global house and techno currents with personal narratives, encouraging humanity to favour the slow life grind and rediscover what's worth feeling. The album features two notable collaborations with Lebanese indie artist Hessy and rapper KARLMARS.
The album opener, 'Chérie Allume Mon Synthé', is a candy-flavoured reset, featuring Hessy's signature keyboard magic. The track kicks start with minimal grooves, merging repeated spoken vocals in French with echoey musical backing of colourful synths, intersected with discordant noise.
On 'Fight It', the synths get more fuzzy. KARLMARS' heavily autotuned vocals and reflective words are interweaved with warped, textured noises and funky basslines.
The project also features a remix of 'Fight It' by the French producer Falbaire. His distinctive crisp analog groove and French house influences add another dimension to the original composition, bridging playful funk with refined deep house sensibilities.
