Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders ticketed for speeding twice in June
Associated Press
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been ticketed for speeding twice this month in Ohio.
Sanders was accused of driving a Dodge TRX pickup truck 101 mph (163 kilometers per hour) on a suburban Cleveland interstate earlier this week.
The Strongsville Police Department stopped Sanders at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in a 60 mph (97 kilometers per hour) zone on Interstate 71 near the Ohio Turnpike, according to a report provided to local media.
Sanders, 23, could pay a $250 fine to waive the fourth-degree misdemeanor case, according to police.
But it wasn't the first time he'd been pulled over for allegedly speeding since joining the Browns.
That ticket came after he was stopped by the Ohio State Patrol on June 5 in Brunswick Hills, Ohio. Sanders was pulled over for going 91 mph (147 kilometers per hour) in a 65 mph (105 kilometer) zone, Ohio State Patrol told WKBN-TV.
According to Medina Municipal Court records, Sanders failed to appear for an arraignment for that ticket on Monday and owes $269 in court costs.
Browns spokesman Peter John- Baptiste told Cleveland.com Thursday that: 'he is taking care of the tickets.'
Sanders, the son of Hall of Fame player Deion Sanders, was drafted in the fifth round (144th overall) of the NFL draft this spring, even though many projections had him going in the first round. He played under his father at the University of Colorado.
Sanders is competing against three other quarterbacks with the Browns. They wrapped up minicamp last week and will open training camp in late July.

Shedeur Sanders' ticket for allegedly speeding over 100 mph wasn't his first since joining Browns: 'I've made some wrong choices'
Shedeur Sanders' speeding ticket Tuesday for allegedly driving more than 100 mph wasn't his first since joining the Cleveland Browns. Per the Browns' rookie quarterback was previously cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on June 6 for speeding in the Cleveland suburb of Medina, Ohio. Per the Highway Patrol, Sanders was driving 91 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 71 at 5:13 p.m. Advertisement Per court records obtained by Sanders missed a June 16 arraignment related to the infraction. It's not clear from the report if Sanders was required to show up in court or if he had the option of paying a fine that would absolve him from his court date. Court records state the ticket was for $150 and that additional costs raised the total fine to $249. On June 17 — the night after his scheduled court date — Sanders was pulled over in Strongville, Ohio at 12:24 a.m. for his second speeding infraction in two weeks. Police say he was driving 101 mph in a 60-mph zone in his Dodge pickup truck on Interstate 71 in the Cleveland suburb. Police released bodycam footage of the traffic stop that appeared to take place without notable incident. Per Sanders has a July 3 court date scheduled in Strongsville's Mayor's Court related to the second speeding infraction. Browns spokesman Peter John-Baptiste told the team has addressed the infractions with Sanders. Advertisement 'He is taking care of the tickets,' John-Baptiste told Sanders addressed the matter during an appearance at teammate David Njoku's celebrity softball game on Thursday, acknowledging he's "made some wrong choices" in between laughs to the camera. The Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft out of Colorado. Sanders, the son of Colorado coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was projected to be selected significantly higher, and his slide to the fifth round became the story of the NFL Draft. Sanders was the second quarterback selected by the Browns, who drafted Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round. Both quarterbacks are engaged in a battle for the starting quarterback position in Cleveland alongside veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Advertisement Deshaun Watson, who's under contract for $230 million, is recovering from an Achilles injury that's expected to keep him sidelined until late in the 2025 season at the earliest. He struggled on the field prior to his injury and was at risk of losing his starting quarterback job, regardless. The Browns wrapped mandatory minicamp last week. The competition for Cleveland's starting quarterback position will resume at training camp in July.

Jeeno Thitikul stays patient and goes on a birdie streak to take first-round lead at Women's PGA
Associated Press FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Jeeno Thitikul walked off the fifth green after a double bogey in the first round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship reminding herself to stay patient and that some missed shots are going to happen. 'Majors, you're going to miss anyway,' said Thitikul, who's No. 2 in the women's world ranking. 'A way to bounce back, it's more important.' Thitikul certainly found a way to do that on a hot and windy Thursday, finishing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke lead over Minjee Lee (69). Haeran Ryu, Rio Takeda and Somi Lee all shot 70. That only hole over par for Thitikul was followed by a par before she made five birdies in a six-hole stretch, with a 60-footer on the par-3 eighth hole in the middle of three in a row. 'My putter went really well," said the 22-year-old from Thailand, who is seeking her first major title. "In the front nine we had a lot of breeze going, and more than the back nine, but like (made) putts 7, 8, 9, which boosts the confidence up making the turn to the back nine.' Thitikul, who lives in the Dallas area, needed only 25 putts on the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco. Her makes measured 199 1/2 feet. Only 15 of 156 players broke par, with no bogey-free rounds on a day when temperatures reached the mid-90s Fahrenheit and it felt even hotter. There were also the ever-present Texas winds on a more open layout after last year's Women's PGA at tree-lined Sahalee outside Seattle. Maja Stark, who three weeks ago won the U.S. Women's Open, shot a 3-over 75. Defending champion Amy Yang finished with a 76, and was one of the last players off the course on a day with six-hour rounds. Thitikul played with top-ranked Nelly Korda (72) and No. 3 Lydia Ko (75). Korda, who reaggravated a neck injury with a shot out of the rough during a practice round Monday, opened with seven consecutive pars in a round that had two birdies and two bogeys. Ko was the only in the group to make a birdie at the 513-yard, par-5 first hole, but didn't make another the rest of the day. While Korda said she doesn't feel pain hitting shots, the two-time major champion said she has pain 'just with rotation' of her neck and that it is hard to get comfortable to sleep at night. 'It's better, yeah. Getting better every day, which is nice,' she said. 'Just because I injured it last year, whenever I do injure my neck it takes a little bit longer than normal. ... Just takes me like a week to kind of recover when I tweak my neck now.' Korda opened with seven pars, including at the 317-yard, par-4 seventh hole, where she hit a 294-yard drive into a valley just short of the green. Her initial pitch from there ricocheted off the edge of the green and rolled back down the slope to where she was. Korda hit her next shot to 2 feet. That fifth hole for Thitkul started with a drive out of bounds and a penalty. Her birdie streak began with a nearly 18-footer at No. 7 before the long one at the eighth. She rolled in a 35-foot birdie at No. 17, and just missed making another one more than twice that long on the 434-yard, par-4 18th. Two-time major winner Lee, a 29-year-old Australian who also lives in North Texas, hasn't won since 2023. She opened Thursday with a bogey and finished with two bogeys over the last three holes. In between, she made seven birdies. 'I feel like they were pretty soft bogeys. ... Well, on 16, that was a bit soft and obviously the first hole is a par 5. I should be making birdie or par at the least,' Lee said. 'Obviously there will be bogeys, but I think for me, I just try to stay patient. If I make a bogey I just try it back it up with something better than that. Can't get ahead of yourself, especially in this kind of weather. I think it's more just the heat that's draining your focus.' Lee bogeyed the 425-yard 12th hole, where she drove into thick rough to the right and from there went into the left rough. She saved par at the par-3 13th by blasting from a bunker to 5 1/2 feet and had consecutive birdies to get to 5 under — the lowest by anyone in the first round. Then came her late bogeys, missing a 7-foot par on the 16th and hitting her approach on the 18th into a bunker. ___ AP golf:

Browns Make Decision On Shedeur Sanders After Two Speeding Incidents
Browns Make Decision On Shedeur Sanders After Two Speeding Incidents originally appeared on The Spun. Colin Cowherd says he's "done" with Shedeur Sanders following the rookie quarterback's two speeding incidents in Ohio this month. But are the Cleveland Browns? The Fox Sports 1 host said on his Thursday, June 19 show that he is officially done with the 23-year-old rookie quarterback. "Shedeur Sanders got caught speeding over 100 MPH. Don't minimize it, don't pander. This is not good for a quarterback," he said on his "The Herd" show on Thursday afternoon, June 19. "I do not cling to opinions. New information, new opinion. I don't think about him the same. When you fall to (pick) 144 in the draft, and then you try to match that number behind the wheel of a car, I don't think the same. "You ignored signs about Manziel and Baker. And, apparently, based on the traffic violation, Shedeur was avoiding some signs, too - that say stop. I'm not sure he's mature enough. Now I'm going to have to like Kenny Pickett." But while Cowherd has said he's done with Sanders, are the Cleveland Browns done, too? The Browns are standing by Sanders - for now. A spokesman for the Cleveland Browns told that Sanders is handling his speeding tickets, while remaining a member of the franchise. "He is taking care of the tickets," team spokesman Peter John-Baptiste told the media outlet. Sanders, who slipped into the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft - he was the second quarterback taken by the Browns, who selected Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon - is still facing an uphill battle to make the roster. The Browns have Gabriel, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett also at the quarterback position. Flacco and Pickett feel like locks to make the Week 1 roster. So, it could be Gabriel and Sanders fighting it out for the QB3 spot. Cleveland could decide to keep four quarterbacks, which is apparently a possibility, according to team insider Mary Kay Cabot, but that would be a rarity for an NFL team. 'Thanks in part to low base salaries and cap numbers for all of them, they can afford to keep all four from a financial standpoint, and it also makes sense from a roster building standpoint,' Cabot wrote. Sanders has work to do off the field, though. He must pay a $250 fine for the fourth-degree misdemeanor or fight the ticket in Strongsville Mayor's Court on July 3, following his latest speeding incident. The Browns are coming off a highly disappointing 3-14 season in 2024.
