Timo Boll becomes BVB brand ambassador
And it is on those very streets that the seven-time Olympian (and serial medal winner), eight-time Champions League winner and eight-time European singles champion, who was the first German to be ranked No. 1 in the world in table-tennis, will be representing Borussia Dortmund in the future.
'Combining the larger football with the smaller table tennis ball makes sense here because Timo Boll, as a long-time fan, has cheered on BVB in every match in the past despite all the stresses and strains of travelling and tournaments, and has always been very emotional in his fandom. Thanks to his enormous popularity and positivity in Asia, he can open relevant doors for us and authentically represent us as a brand ambassador. We look forward to many joint activities with Timo and to an intensive cooperation in the digital world as well,' said Borussia Dortmund's Managing Director Carsten Cramer.
Boll, who retired as a player only a few months ago, will – at his own request – complete an internship at BVB lasting several weeks, among other things, so that he can get to know the club and its various fields of work in Germany and beyond even better during that time. He is now BVB's fifth brand ambassador – and the only one without a professional football background. In addition to Timo Boll, Dortmund icons Karl-Heinz Riedle, Jörg Heinrich, Roman Weidenfeller and Patrick Owomoyela regularly fly the Black & Yellow flag around the world.
Timo Boll is looking forward to the task of representing BVB, particularly in China: 'It will certainly be exciting when I suddenly find myself on football pitches instead of in table tennis halls.' He went on to explain: 'There's a simple reason for the internship. I was once asked if I could imagine going into an office every morning at 9 o'clock. I replied that I didn't know because I've only ever been in training halls since I was a child. Now I want to see what I'll be doing for the next 20 years. With that in mind, BVB is a really exciting challenge for me.'

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson favours a move to Newcastle United
Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson favours a move to Newcastle United should he leave the Stamford Bridge club this summer, according to the Telegraph. Newcastle have been in the market all summer for a number 9 to play alongside Alexander Isak at the St James' Park club, and they will hope they can finally land one before the transfer deadline. The Magpies target has been training on his own after telling Chelsea he wants to leave and they have agreed to sell the 24-year-old. Newcastle are not the only club interested in Jackson, but he favours a move there, with Champions League football likely a factor. He was left left out of the squad for Friday's friendly at Stamford Bridge against Bayer Leverkusen and was also not on the bench against AC Milan yesterday. The Toons lost the race for Slovenia international striker Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United, and his Chelsea counterpart has emerged as an option. They were ready to do a €85 million deal for the former RB Leipzig star and may need to pay something close to sign Jackson. Chelsea want at least €76m for him – double what they paid to sign him from Villarreal in 2023, and he also has eight years left on his current contract after signing a long-term deal last September. Newcastle could do with his strength and pace in attack and they will hope to beat other suitors to his services after missing out on most of their key transfer targets so far this summer. The Senegalese has found himself behind Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in the pecking order at Chelsea after the striking duo were signed this summer, and he needs to leave if he wants regular playing opportunities. The Toons could provide him with that chance as manager Eddie Howe is open to playing two strikers going forward, and talks could take place between both clubs in the coming weeks.

Who can challenge Liverpool?
This season is an important one for Arsenal and nobody around the club is scared to say it. The players, manager and even the kit launch have all referenced the 'reach new heights' tag - or a version of it - as they look to win a trophy for the first time since 2020. The Gunners have spent more than £190m in initial fees as they look to refresh the squad and bring in new players, including the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. Mikel Arteta has done an excellent job in transforming Arsenal into repeat contenders in the league and brought consistent Champions League football but now it is time for them to take the next step. This will be a pressured season after coming so close for so many seasons now. Arteta looks to have tweaked the way Arsenal are playing, too. During pre-season the Gunners have played the ball through the lines quicker, looking to get the ball forward into areas where they can score goals. All of that has been done to complement Gyokeres' style of play and, although it may take time, if it clicks Arsenal are going to come very close again.
