Florida baseball bounces back with run-rule win over Jacksonville
Florida baseball desperately needed a win after being swept over the weekend, and the Gators delivered a bounce-back win Tuesday night, 16-4 over seven innings, against the visiting Jacksonville Dolphins.
Every Gator scored throughout six innings of offense, including a crooked number in each of the last four. Brendan Lawson and Colby Shelton led the way with three hits apiece, and Justin Nadeau and Landon Stripling also recorded multi-hit days. Lawson drove in a team-high five runs, bringing in two with a three-run home run in the third and two more in the fourth on a double to left-center. Nadeau also hit a three-run homer, his first big fly as a Gator, as did Landon Stripling during a big six-run sixth.
The only two Florida bats to not record a hit in the run-rule victory were Bobby Boser, who struck out three times, and Cade Kurland, who left the game after showing discomfort. Kevin O'Sullivan confirmed that Kurland's shoulder did not pop back out after a few weeks on the mend from a dislocation, but he acknowledged it might have been a bit early to bring his second baseman back.
In other injury news, O'Sullivan announced that left-hander Frank Menendez is out for the year with an elbow injury. Gators Wire spoke to Menendez last week and learned of the injury. He expects to undergo Tommy John surgery. The good news is that Pierce Coppola is expected to begin throwing again next week.
The trio of Jackson Barberi (3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K), Christian Rodriguez (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K) and Niko Janssens (2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) threw for Florida. Rodriguez earned the win as the first relief arm after Barberi went three innings in the start.
Florida moves to 17-5 on the year and 14-1 at home. The Gators host Florida A&M on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. EDT before turning the page to Georgia, which visits for a three-game series in Gainesville this weekend.

2026 4-star RB re-affirms his commitment to Texas A&M

This weekend, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff are hosting 18 prospects from the 2026 recruiting class, including six commitments in the cycle, providing another opportunity to capitalize on the program's early success in landing recruits in four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory, and four-star running back Jonathan Hatton, who are both being heavily pursued by other programs this summer. Hatton was previously committed to Oklahoma before re-opening his recruitment and ultimately committing to the Aggies in late March. However, the Sooners are still attempting to reel him back in, as the Cibolo (TX) native will take an official visit to Oklahoma on June 20. Still, over the past two months after his commitment, including this weekend's official visit, Hatton is completely locked in ahead of Early Signing Day in December. Advertisement On Saturday morning, Hatton reaffirmed his commitment to Texas A&M, releasing a video on social media (X) while sending a subtle message that his alliance with the Aggies remains strong, even with his OV to Oklahoma just a couple of weeks away. On the field, Hatton is an elite runner with the vision, footwork, and upfield burst to become a star at the next level, having produced 1,229 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging 9.17 yards per carry. With Le'Veon Moss leaving after the 2025 season, bringing Hatton into the backfield lineup will provide immediate depth in 2026. According to 247Sports Composite, Hatton is currently positioned as the 77th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 5th-ranked running back, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Texas. Woman unknowingly bonds with Travis Hunter on an airplane: ‘Nicest young man'

One woman had 'the most wonderful flight home' from Denver, Colorado, thanks to her seat companion: NFL rookie Travis Hunter. Sandy Hawkins Combs shared in a Facebook post May 10 that she met 'the nicest young man' sitting beside her on a plane. Advertisement 'He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray. He was always polite, saying 'yes ma'am' or 'no ma'am,'' she recalled in the post. 'Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson — so polite.' People then began walking by their seats and congratulating the man, according to Combs, who had no clue whom she was seated beside. 'I turned and asked him, 'Who am I sitting next to?' I looked at his Jaguar pants, smiled, and asked, 'Are you an athlete?'' she wrote. 'He smiled and said, 'I'm Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.'' Unbeknownst to her, Combs was sitting next to a newly minted Jacksonville Jaguars player. Travis Hunter and Sandy Hawkins Combs. (via Facebook) 'I already told my sons I want his jersey,' Combs wrote. Advertisement Raving about Hunter's character, she continued, 'He's so humble and down-to-earth — I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete.' Combs then congratulated the Jaguars on their new player, telling the team, 'You did good! I will be buying tickets.' She also thanked United Airlines for her unexpected seat assignment. The former University of Colorado cornerback and wide receiver went No. 2 at the 2025 NFL draft last month after winning the coveted Heisman Trophy, which named him the top collegiate football player in 2024. During his acceptance speech in December 2024, Hunter became emotional when thanking his family — specifically his dad, Travis Hunter Sr. — for sacrifices they made allowing him to play and excel at his sport. Advertisement 'I want to say something to my father. He's not here. But I know you're watching on TV,' Hunter said, wiping tears from his eyes. 'Dad, I love you. All the stuff you went through, man. Now, look at your oldest son. I did it for you, man.' In March 2024, Hunter memorably surprised his mom with a home in Savannah, Georgia, capturing her reaction in a heartwarming video posted to YouTube. Before showing his mom her new abode, Hunter described the five-bedroom house as 'very, very nice' to his camerawoman and fiancée, Leanna Lenee. When his mom, Ferrante Edmonds, realized she was just gifted a beautiful home, gold confetti erupted into the air amid plenty of smiles and laughter. This article was originally published on

Former Texas A&M Aggie star pitcher dominates TinCaps in breakout start

Former Texas A&M Aggie star pitcher dominates TinCaps in breakout start Awesomeness from Aschenbeck 👏 He's our second consecutive starting pitcher to throw seven shutout innings! Still 5-0 Cubs headed to the eighth.#SBCubs — South Bend Cubs (@SBCubs) June 13, 2025 One year removed from Texas A&M baseball's historic College World Series run, powered in large part by closer Evan Aschenbeck. Aggies fans found themselves holding their breath after the 2024 MLB Draft. Aschenbeck sought an eligibility exemption based on his JUCO playing time at Blinn College, hoping for one more season in Aggieland. But with no response from the NCAA, the 2024 NCBWA Stopper of the Year signed a pro contract with the Chicago Cubs as the 392nd overall pick. Now pitching for the High-A South Bend Cubs, Aschenbeck has posted a 3-3 minor league record, but the left-hander is heating up. Over his last five outings, he's worked 32.1 innings with 25 strikeouts and a sharp 2.44 ERA. His latest performance against the Fort Wayne TinCaps was vintage Aschenbeck. He tossed seven scoreless innings and five strikeouts, showing he's finding his rhythm at the next level. Below you can see his strikeout to end the seventh inning.
