Odisha police raids explosive warehouses in three districts, 2 held
The raids on explosive warehouses were being conducted in the mineral-rich and bordering police districts of Sundergarh, Rourkela and Keonjhar, DIG, Western Rang, Brijesh Rai told PTI.
The DIG said that Sraban Agarwal, the owner of a warehouse at Badagaon in Sundergarh district and the driver of a truck transporting explosive materials, were arrested by the Special Investigating Team . The arrests were made based on the detection of two explosive-laden trucks at a place in Raghunathpali police station area on Sunday.
The police had found parking of explosive-loaded trucks near a petrol pump following which one driver was arrested. The materials were getting transported to some undisclosed place. The explosive materials were taken from Sraban Agarwal's warehouse, police said.
Earlier, police had detained Agarwal in Rourkela and later arrested him following interrogations by the SIT. His Badgaon warehouse was sealed last week after the May 27 incident , which raised alarms about explosive security and potential misuse.
Police sources said that three explosives-laden trucks left Agarwal's warehouse on May 27. While Maoists looted one truckload of explosives, Agrawal misled authorities by claiming the other two trucks were delivered to clients.
However, police later on Sunday found two explosives-laden trucks parked suspiciously near a fuel station at Balughat in Raghunathpali area. About 116 packets of gelatin sticks, 416 detonators and 750 metre of charging electric wires were recovered from the two trucks, fuelling suspicions of a broader illegal trade.
Police arrested Agarwal for illegally supplying explosives to stone quarries and mines by violating the standard operating procedure .
The security personnel on Monday recovered around 2.5 tonnes of explosives during a search operation in jungles near Saranda forest on the Jharkhand border.
On May 27, armed Maoists had hijacked the explosives-laden truck from Banko stone quarry in the K Balang area of Sundergarh district.

Agency: Kanpur(UP), Aug 16 (PTI) Security has been heightened around a disputed mausoleum in Fatehpur as a Hindu organisation, the Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti, on Saturday announced plans to hold a 'kirtan' (devotional singing) at the site. This move comes amidst a tense standoff following a recent incident where a mob vandalised the structure, claiming it to be a Hindu temple. Police have tightened the security arrangements around the mausoleum, with prohibitory orders in effect. The order has reportedly restricted residents from leaving their homes without a valid reason. District Magistrate Ravindra Singh and Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh personally visited the site on Saturday to review the deployment. More than 300 police personnel, two platoons of the Provincial Armed Constabulary, and Special Task Force teams have been deployed within a one-kilometer radius. The area is also under constant drone surveillance, officials said. The current situation is the result of escalating tensions that began when the Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti sent a letter on August 7 seeking permission to 'clean and beautify" the mausoleum, alleging it was a temple. Provocative social media messages have also contributed to the unrest, prompting the police to register three FIRs and maintain extra vigilance. While officials have identified around 140 suspects from video footage, no arrests have been made so far. Media access to the site has been restricted since Monday. Villager injured as gunfight breaks out between security forces and Maoists
Raipur: A villager was injured after he was hit by a bullet during a gunfight that broke out between Maoists and security forces on late Friday night in the forested area of Kohkameta village in Kondagaon district, Bastar division. The exchange of fire lasted several minutes. The villager is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at a hospital. Some country-made weapons, Maoist uniforms and literature were seized from the encounter site. According to Kondagaon SP Y Akshay Kumar, the encounter occurred during a joint anti-Naxal operation launched based on specific intelligence about Maoist activity in the Kanhargaon area. The operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Security forces reportedly came under heavy fire from a group of 10–12 armed Maoists who had set up an ambush in the forest. The Maoists, armed with automatic weapons, opened indiscriminate fire, allegedly intending to loot arms and target the security personnel. He was quickly evacuated, first taken to a nearby medical facility, and later referred to Kondagaon district hospital for further treatment. In the follow-up search of the encounter site, security personnel recovered two country-made guns, Maoist uniforms, propaganda materials, backpacks, and medical supplies. Authorities believe these items indicate the Maoists had been camping in the area and were possibly preparing for a larger attack. SP Kumar added that the security forces have intensified combing operations in the forests of Kohkameta and Nalajhar to track down the fleeing Maoists. Delhi man rapes his mother after accusing her of having bad character
New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) A 39-year-old man allegedly raped his mother in central Delhi's Hauz Qazi area after she returned from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, police said on Saturday. According to officials, the complainant, accompanied by her 25-year-old daughter, approached the Hauz Qazi police station and alleged that her son, identified as Md Firoz alias Suhel, had assaulted and sexually abused her on multiple occasions this month. 'The woman stated that she had travelled to Saudi Arabia on July 25 with her husband, aged 72, and their daughter for pilgrimage. During the trip, her son allegedly called on her husband's phone and accused her of having a 'bad character', demanding that his father return immediately to Delhi and divorce her," a senior police officer said. On August 1, after the family returned home, the accused allegedly assaulted his mother and attempted to attack her again the next day. Fearing for her safety, she went to stay at her elder daughter's in-laws' house for some time, the complainant told police. 'She further alleged that on August 11, when she returned home around 9.30 pm, her son insisted on speaking to her privately. He then locked her in a room, threatened her with a knife and scissors, and allegedly raped her," the officer added. Out of fear and shame, she did not disclose the incident immediately and began sleeping in the same room as her daughter, police said. However, around 3.30 am on August 14, the accused allegedly repeated the act, following which the woman gathered courage and approached police. A case has been registered under relevant section of the BNS and investigation has been taken up, the officer said. The accused is a graduate but currently unemployed, while the complainant is an illiterate housewife whose husband is a retired government employee.
