THE BLANC Gallery Presents Leave it Ajar —— A Duo Exhibition by Kyung Kim and Ruoxin Sun
Kyung Kim's paintings on clear-primed linen transform oil paint into a sensorial language, where memory, both personal and historical, slowly surfaces through layers of soft, analogous colors. Her inspiration stems from cherished objects, aged Korean landscapes, traditional architecture and porcelain, each imbued with quiet resonance. The paint is drawn inward, soaked into the fabric like recollections rising gently to the surface. This creates a quiet space where time, temperature, sound and scent seem to mingle. Her abstracted forms invite moments of stillness, calm and contemplative intimacy.
Complementing this, Ruoxin Sun's work delves into the fragility of representation itself. Through 3D printed sculptures, installations, and repetitive textual forms, she employs transparency, residue, and surface tension not merely as visual elements but as conceptual tools probing how narratives fracture and resist closure. Sun's pieces expose moments when systems collapse under their own logic, revealing the seams where meaning unravels and may be reconfigured. Through this unraveling, she opens a space for reclaiming agency, urging viewers to reflect on how stories are built and where they fall apart.
Located at 15 E 40th Street in the vibrant heart of New York City, THE BLANC is a dynamic hub for contemporary art, offering five distinct gallery exhibitions and events. Designed to accommodate large-scale, boundary-pushing installations, THE BLANC fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration and invites visitors to experience art as a transformative platform. Expansive street-facing windows blur the line between inside and out, inviting passersby to pause and engage with the works on view, offering moments of calm and reflection amid the city's relentless energy.
Together, the artists create an atmosphere that lingers between abstraction and narrative, material and immaterial. Echoing motifs drift across the show like recurring dreams, open-ended, quiet and gently disorienting. THE BLANC's large street-facing windows become an active part of this experience, allowing the work to converse with the urban environment. Pedestrians catch glimpses of the show from the sidewalk, where the installation invites a rare moment of pause and reflection, offering a soft interruption to the city's constant movement.
Leave it Ajar is not only an exhibition, but a journey through memories and layered textures. Visitors are encouraged to discover moments of intrigue, stillness, and playful reflections as they follow the show's looping and recurring visual threads.
About Kyung Kim: Kyung Kim is a South Korean-born painter currently based in New York. She translates sensory memories into paintings by capturing the invisible sensitivities of sound, temperature, and time experienced in the natural landscapes of Korea. Through this exhibition, Kyung will introduce the poetic sensibility of these ephemeral memories.

About Ruoxin Sun: Ruoxin (Rosina) Sun is a Chinese-born artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her practice moves between object-making, writing, and digital processes to explore unstable meanings and broken systems. Often engaging translation across media, languages, and memories, she materializes the tensions between personal experience and cultural structures.

Here's How Rei Ami Of "KPop Demon Hunters" Responded To A Viral Rumor That The Hit Song "Golden" Is Actually AI
Everybody's rightfully obsessed with Sony's KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix. The movie's already making history as the iconic single "Golden" from the movie has reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, but not without a bit of controversy. So, KPop Demon Hunters is voiced by a star-studded, all-Korean cast with a visual style and music that pays homage to popular Korean music, anime, and culture. It's dope because it's like one long, action-packed music video. In the animated film, three present-day demon hunters are tasked with saving the world from an evil demon king — Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). The best part is that they're not just demon hunters but also the super famous K-pop girl group Huntr/x. The singing voices of the animated characters are... ...K-pop singer-songwriter and record producer Ejae for Rumi... ...Korean-American R&B singer and rapper Audrey Nuna for Mira... ...and actor, singer-songwriter, and rapper Rei Ami for Zoey. The movie features several songs that have become instant hits with fans, but the song "Golden" which plays important part in the movie has crossed over into world as chart-topping hit making the virtual girl group HUNTR/X one of the first girl groups to hit #1 since Destiny's Child. It is the second track from an animated film to occupy the top of the Hot 100 this decade since "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Disney's Encanto. Other tracks from animated characters have charted before, including Alvin and the Chipmunks' "The Chipmunk Song" or the Archies' "Sugar, Sugar," and "Nobody Like U" from Pixar's Turning Red boy band 4*TOWN. The difference between these past groups is that they didn't have to defend themselves against "artificial intelligence" accusations. A viral tweet with over 12 million views said, "Y'all realize this is one step toward AI completely taking over the music industry as well right?" The tweet triggered a debate over whether or not the performance of "Golden" was AI-generated, prompting a response from one of the real-life artists behind the song. On Aug. 12, Rei Ami shared an X post, writing, "EJAE, AUDREY NUNA AND I ARE NOT AI — ARE U BITCHES DUMB?!" Like her character Zoey with the shin-kal knives, she responded one more time against the accusations, sarcastically writing, "Yall I just found out I've been AI for 30 years omg help I'm just a code oopsie oh noooooooooo me so sad." Thanks to fans, Kpop Demon Hunters has become Netflix's second most-streamed movie ever and gave both Huntr/x and the fictional boyband Saja Boys chart-topping songs. And these same loyal KPop Demon Hunters fans are hilariously ten-toes behind Rei Ami's playful clapback, and they're not pulling any punches. No seriously. Why is Rei Ami so hilarious? Why Summer Fridays' K-Beauty Exfoliator Is a Game Changer for Smooth Skin
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Of all the calendars on my phone—friend group outings, looming work deadlines, the never-ending birthday alerts—none strikes fear in my heart like the one tracking my period. Every month, I peek, cringe, and slam it shut, knowing that in a matter of days, I'll be wrestling with cramps, fatigue, and the hormonal breakout parade that takes residence along my cheeks and chin. But here I am, nine days out, and my skin is suspiciously calm—smooth, bright, almost as if she's on vacation instead of gearing up for battle. The plot twist? An unlikely skin care recruit I slipped into my routine at the eleventh hour turned out to be the reset my skin didn't know it needed. I've long relied on Summer Fridays to keep my lips plush (Mint is my ride-or-die) and my post-flight face hydrated. But now? I'm convinced their new exfoliating pads might be the perfect sidekick because nothing pairs better with glossy lips and a juicy, plumped-up visage than skin that's nearly poreless, even-toned, and fully unbothered. After all, that is the Cali-cool brand's ethos—ease, bliss, and luxury, just like the flexible workday perk it's named after. Now, imagine a product that blends that breezy California edge with the innovation and radiance of beauty's most popular skin care capital. Summer Fridays' last launch took us to the tropics with a guava-inspired balm. With its latest offering, we're off to Korea. 'It's true that Korea is one of the global leaders in skin innovation. As we started to develop a product like this, we wanted to really focus on prevention, but also on gentleness,' explains Kendall Johnson, senior director of product development and packaging at Summer Fridays. 'Korea marries science and sensorial formulations. As we started to work with a specific Korean lab, we were able to find that perfect balance between effective exfoliation and daily comfort in the pad.' Hydration is Summer Fridays' love language. From lip balms laced with shea and murumuru seed butters to hyaluronic acid-rich formulas like the Jet Lag Mask + Moisturizer, Deep Hydration Serum, and Skin Soothing Hydration Mist, the brand has built an empire on moisture. Then came the corrective era—vitamin C, retinol, and firming eye serums—proof that Summer Fridays could do more than quench skin's thirst. The Gentle Reset Daily Exfoliating Pads ($42) sit right in the middle: a marriage of correction and hydration 'without compromise,' says co-founder Lauren Ireland. Safe for all skin types, it's tailored for sensitive skin. Each double-sided pad sits in a blend of glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acids—exfoliation's all-stars—tempered with PHA gluconolactone, aloe water, and glycerin to keep irritation in check. 'Glycolic, lactic, mandelic—all of these ingredients are effective and give you the full chemical exfoliation experience, but they're a little smaller in size in molecular weight, so that they can be a little bit harsher on the skin. The PHA gluconolactone is a much larger molecule, which still gives you that chemical exfoliation, but it's a little less harsh at the same time, so you still get those results,' Johnson adds. As someone with acne-prone skin, I've long loved Korean toner pads for their conditioning abilities—especially when my weekly retinol, clindamycin, and benzoyl peroxide rotation leaves my skin a bit dry. Still, they've never made a real dent in the evidence of my pimple-picking past. These pads were different; they're deceptively potent—never stinging or peeling my skin—and ultra calming. Unlike the balms, there's no smell, just a chic suede-textured box that houses 30 individually wrapped pads—smart for travel and even smarter for consistency. 'Every pad delivers the same results,' co-founder Marianna Hewitt notes. 'With jars, the top pads can dry out and leave only the bottom pads soaked, so you don't get the same experience with every pad. [Gentle Reset Daily Exfoliating Pads] ensure that youre skin is getting the same amount of juice each time and perfect for on-the-go use.' One side is textured, the other smooth—my acne-prone skin prefers the grit for a satisfying degunking. Post-use, my face looks like I just had a deep-cleansing facial—minus the redness or bumps manual exfoliation often causes. With these, you get exfoliation and glow all in one step without ever leaving your home. By day four, the glow was still there, but the breakouts weren't. The rogue cheek spot I'd been battling for weeks was noticeably lighter. One week in, my skin feels like it's finally on my side—supple, smooth, and almost smug about it. Not to mention my makeup routine shrank to a dab of concealer, powder, blush, and done. My mornings are easier, and my period calendar feels a little less ominous. At a recent work meeting, I walked in to a chorus of publicists saying, 'Your skin looks amazing.' Call it vanity, but for me, that's the ultimate litmus test of a product's success. And over a week later, the compliments haven't stopped.
