MEPMA panel focuses on job security
Resource Persons (RPs) thanked Principal Secretary S Suresh Kumar and Mission Director N Tej Bharath for revoking a government order limiting their service to three years, stating it ensured job security and boosted morale.
Suresh Kumar, who chaired the session, reiterated the goal of the P4 Scheme to uplift the poorest 20% of families and urged RPs to intensify their efforts. The committee also reviewed the 'Mahila Kasham' mobile app and stressed better use of the MLCC module for faster loan approvals and fraud control. Key HR issues were also addressed, with decisions aimed at improving MEPMA's operational effectiveness.

Andhra Pradesh Secretariat launches jute bag stalls as part of drive against single-use plastics
In a step towards making Andhra Pradesh free of single-use plastics by June 5, 2026, the Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Department on Thursday launched jute bag stalls at the State Secretariat. The initiative, organised under the aegis of the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), was inaugurated by MA&UD Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar. Speaking at the event, Mr. Suresh Kumar said that from August 15, the Secretariat would be declared single-use plastic-free. The newly set-up stalls aim at promoting the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as jute bags in place of plastic carrybags. He noted that the drive aligned with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's call to make Andhra Pradesh a plastic-free State by the World Environment Day-2026. As part of the campaign, the Secretariat would replace plastic bottles, cups, plates, stickers, sachets, and carrybags with reusable and biodegradable materials. Other key measures included installation of RO water plants in all the Secretariat blocks, free distribution of reusable stainless steel water bottles to employees, and placement of three-colour dustbins for collection of solid, liquid, and e-waste. Mr. Suresh Kumar stressed that the plan was being implemented in mission mode with a strong action plan, in collaboration with the Swachh Andhra Corporation. He urged all the Secretariat employees and visitors to cooperate in making the programme a success. MEPMA Managing Director Tej Bharat participated.

VIJAYAWADA: With Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu setting the course to free Andhra Pradesh of single-use plastic by June 5, 2026 (World Environment Day), the State government will begin by banning single-use plastic at the Secretariat from August 15 under the slogan Say No to Single-Use Plastic'. Chief Secretary K Vijayanand met departmental secretaries on Tuesday to finalise steps for the ban at the administrative hub. He said harmful single-use plastic items, including carry bags, water bottles, glasses, plates, cups, spoons, forks, phenol bottles, and cans, will be prohibited. The CRDA, MEPMA, and Swachhandra departments will coordinate to ensure effective implementation. Only glass and stainless steel bottles will be permitted for drinking water inside the Secretariat. Vijayanand instructed all secretaries and department heads to issue orders to their staff to ensure compliance, adding that visitors must also follow the ban. He emphasised that the initiative aims to set a precedent for other government offices and public institutions across the State, forming part of a phased approach towards eliminating single-use plastic entirely by 2026. Earlier, Municipal Administration Principal Secretary S Suresh Kumar presented alternative arrangements prepared over the past 45 days to replace banned items.

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government has set an ambitious target to make the State Secretariat completely free of single-use plastics by August 15, 2025, and aims to extend the ban across the entire State by June 5, 2026. The initiative follows a call from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to promote environmental sustainability and safeguard public health. Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), S Suresh Kumar, announced the initiative during a training session for Mandal Liaison Officers (MLOs) on Friday. He highlighted the harmful effects of single-use plastics, citing microplastic pollution as a growing threat linked to various cancers and health risks for both humans and animals.
