Hermann powers South Africa to T20 win over Zimbabwe

Mint20-07-2025
A maiden international half-century by Rubin Hermann took South Africa to a seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe in their Twenty20 international tri-series match at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
The left-handed Hermann hit 63 off 36 balls as South Africa chased down a target of 145 with 16 balls to spare.
Defeat ended Zimbabwe's hopes of playing in the final and ensured that South Africa and unbeaten New Zealand will meet in the showpiece match on Saturday.
Zimbabwe were restricted to 144 for six after being sent in, despite a fourth wicket stand of 78 off 47 balls between Brian Bennett (61) and Ryan Burl (36 not out).
South Africa made a shaky start to their chase, losing both their opening batsmen to fast bowler Tinotenda Maposa with only 22 runs on the board.
But Hermann, 28, who made his debut in the opening match of the tournament, struck the ball confidently and dominated a third wicket stand of 106 with captain Rassie van der Dussen, who finished unbeaten on 52.
Van der Dussen said there had been an improvement in all aspects of South Africa's performance.
"I was really chuffed with the bowling - 144 was never enough. We lost two early wickets so there was a little bit of early pressure but Rubin came in and played beautifully," he said.
South Africa were beaten by New Zealand in an earlier round robin. They meet again on Tuesday, ahead of the final. "It's like a three-match series. Hopefully we can make it 1-1 on Tuesday and take it in the final," said Van der Dussen.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza said his team had been on the wrong end of the toss in all three of their matches, being made to bat first on a ground where it is an advantage to chase.
"But that's no excuse," he said of a sub-standard batting performance. "There were a lot of dot balls. Getting bat on ball can go a long way to getting a good total."

Green, Inglis star as Australia seal 4-0 T20 series lead vs West Indies

Half-centuries to Cameron Green and Josh Inglis led Australia to a three-wicket win over West Indies and extended its lead to 4-0 in a five-match Twenty20 international series. Australia chased down West Indies score of 205-9 in the final over without too much trouble with Green top scoring with an unbeaten 55, his third fifty of the series, while Inglis set the tone early with a spritely 51. It's the seventh time West Indies have failed to defend a score in excess of 200 in Twenty20 internationals, the most of any ICC member nation. Sherfane Rutherford made 31 off 15 balls to top score for the hosts, who also had handy contributions from the middle order Rovman Powell (28), Romario Shepherd (28) and Jason Holder (26) after being asked again to bat first at Warner Park. Shai Hope, who made a brilliant unbeaten 102 on Friday to become the second male West Indian player after Chris Gayle to score a century in each format could only manage 10 this game before chipping a catch to a diving Glenn Maxwell off Xavier Bartlett. Aaron Hardie, playing this game for the rested Tim David was the pick of Australia's bowlers with an economical 2-24 off four overs, including Roston Chase for a first ball duck and later Powell to interrupt the hosts progress. Adam Zampa (3-54) took three wickets, while Bartlett (2-39) and Sean Abbott (2-61) picked up two wickets each. Australia's reply stated shakily with captain Mitch Marsh out in the first over for Jediah Blades' first T20 international wicket. A 66-run stand between Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell helped recover Australia and put them ahead of the game. Inglis scored his second half-century of the series off 28 balls, with 10 boundaries and a six, but gifted a catch to deep square two balls later off Shepherd (1-59). Maxwell, opening the batting for the third consecutive match, got his highest score of the series with 47 from 18 balls before he was caught off Akeal Hosein (1-36) immediately after the mid-innings break to have Australia at 129-3 but still looking comfortable. That changed in the space of three balls from Blades (3-29), who removed newcomer Mitchell Owen (2) and Cooper Connolly for a duck to have the Aussies' chase stumbling at 134-5. Green stayed composed and combined with Hardie for a 51-run stand to close in on the victory target before the latter holed-out from Holder (1-38). Bartlett was run-out in the second-to-last-over and Abbott scored the winning run as rain began sheeting down at Warner Park. Australia's win streak in the Caribbean now stands at seven matches following the 3-0 test series sweep. Australia had a three-wicket win to open the series on Sunday before Inglis and Green led Australia to an eight-wicket victory and spoiled Andre Russell's last game for West Indies in the second game at Kingston, Jamaica. The tourists then clinched the series on the back of a 37-ball century by Tim David in St. Kitts on Friday. The final game is in St. Kitts on Tuesday.

Cricket-Australia beat West Indies by three wickets in fourth T20

July 26 (Reuters) - Australia claimed a three-wicket victory over the West Indies in the fourth Twenty20 international on Saturday, barely needing to shift into top gear as they heaped more misery on the hosts who have yet to register a win in the five-game series. Chasing 206 in Basseterre, Saint Kitts, Australia lost opener Mitchell Marsh for a duck but Glenn Maxwell (47) and Josh Inglis (51) put together a 66-run partnership to lay the foundation for the chase. The visitors went on to clinch the win with four balls to spare and took a 4-0 lead in the series courtesy of Cameron Green's knock of 55 off 35 balls - his third half-century in the four matches. Jediah Blades was the pick of the West Indies' bowlers with 3-29 from his four overs. Earlier, spinner Adam Zampa took three wickets while fast bowlers Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett and Aaron Hardie took two apiece as the West Indies scored 205/9. Sherfane Rutherford topping the scoring for West Indies with his knock of 31. "To take a few early wickets, we know teams like the West Indies are going, with how deep they bat, we knew that they're going to come hard the whole innings, which they did," Australia captain Marsh said. "But, I thought the way we were able to navigate some tricky overs and keep taking wickets, I sort of feel 230 is probably par on that. I thought it was an outstanding effort with the ball." The final game of the series takes place at the same venue on Monday, before Australia return home for a limited-overs series against South Africa, while the West Indies host Pakistan for three T20Is and three one-day internationals.
