
Arunachal initiates breach of privilege motion against official
Itanagar: Privilege committee of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has initiated a breach of privilege motion against a state govt official. The motion, led by legislative assembly deputy speaker Kardo Nyigyor , who also chairs the committee, targets superintendent engineer N L Kamin of the rural works department of Rupa circle, following allegations made by Bameng MLA Kumar Waii , stated an official statement.The committee conducted a detailed hearing with both parties and is currently investigating the allegations. If the claims are proven true, action will be taken against the official.Reportedly, MLA Kumar Waii accused Kamin of non-cooperation and non-compliance. Waii said after his election, he attempted to engage Kamin in discussions regarding developmental projects, including road projects under the Vibrant Village Projects and other govt-sponsored initiatives in the Bameng assembly constituency. However, Kamin allegedly ignored calls and failed to attend meetings.Waii has also accused Kamin of corrupt practices.

Ready-to-eat shrimp recalled due to bacteria
Health officials have recalled 45,000lbs of ready-to-eat shrimp due to fears it could be contaminated with listeria. The Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers to not eat Bornstein Seafoods of Bellingham, Washington's Cooked & Peeled, Ready-To-Eat Coldwater Shrimp. The agency said it is believed to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes - a bacteria capable of causing serious infections in humans . While a listeria infection usually causes fever, headache and diarrhea in most people, it can be deadly for pregnant women, newborns, elderly and those with weak immune systems. Officials also noted that the product was delivered to distributors and retailers in California , Oregon , Washington and British Columbia in Canada . However, it may have been distributed further and sold at retailers across the US and parts of Canada. The recalled product can be identified under Bornstein Seafoods branded packaging in 1 lb. or 5 lb. plastic bag with lot codes A19008, A19009, P11710, A19009, A19019, A19026, A19030, A19032, A19037, A19039, A18989, A19006, A19007, P11709 and P11710. As of now, no cases of listeria infection due to the shrimp have been reported. The FDA has asked consumers who purchased the affected product to return it to stores for a full refund. People can become infected with listeria from contaminated food items such as seafood, deli meats, hot dogs, unpasteurized fruit juices, soft cheeses and sprouts. In this case, it is possible that the shrimp may have become contaminated with listeria through poor hygiene, contact with contaminated surfaces and even during the chilling process. The bacteria can survive the stomach acid and travel to the intestine, from which they may migrate into the bloodstream. Most healthy adults will start to feel sick within a couple of days of consuming contaminated food. It usually starts with flu-like symptoms - a fever, muscle aches or nausea - before progressing to vomiting and diarrhea. Some people begin to feel sick weeks or months after the initial infection. This is because listeria can go dormant when faced with environmental stress, such as in water without nutrients or in the presence of detergents. It can also spread to the central nervous system and cause a stiff neck, seizures, confusion and a loss of balance In the most severe cases, listeria can lead to meningitis, an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord or pus buildup in the brain which can be deadly to human life. However, pregnant woman may have mild or no symptoms but can still pass the infection to the fetus, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Babies born with a listeria infection can have developmental delays, develop blindness, paralysis and may even face organ failure - which could lead to death. Every year, about 1,600 people Americans end up with listeria out of which nearly 300 die from the infection. Treatment for listeria infections usually includes taking antibiotics such as sulfamethoxazole and ampicillin.

US Bank and Fiserv integrate card programmes

Air India disaster deals heavy blow to 'world class airline' ambition
NEW DELHI, June 12 (Reuters) - The Air India plane crash in which more than 200 passengers were killed on Thursday has plunged the airline into its deepest crisis yet and will deal a heavy blow to its efforts to revamp its reputation and fleet. After taking the carrier over from the government in 2022, the Tata Group unveiled ambitious plans to reverse years of underinvestment in an ageing and outdated fleet and create a "world class airline", as CEO Campbell Wilson has repeatedly put it, on a par with rivals like Emirates. The turnaround has been aimed at tackling its myriad problems including persistent flight delays, disgruntled customers, a shortage of spare parts, delayed plane deliveries and years of financial losses. "Newer aircraft and better maintenance should be the hallmark for Air India to survive. Proper maintenance is what they should be looking into, because Air India has had a chequered past," said Vibhuti Deora, a former legal expert at India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. That past includes, while under government ownership, Boeing 737 flight from Dubai overshooting the runway at one domestic airport and crashing into a gorge in 2010, killing 158 people. More recently, its low-cost unit Air India Express saw one craft skid off a runway in India in 2020, killing 21 people. Only a few days ago, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told an international gathering of hundreds of airline executives in New Delhi that the country's aviation industry stood at a crucial point of takeoff. On Thursday, however, Air India swapped the bright red colour scheme and logo on its website for a more sombre black and grey one, covering it with a banner that carried the crashed flight's number: "AI-171". "For an airline, the most important thing is the brand's identity with safety. This will be a major setback for the brand in that aspect," said Dilip Cherian, a communications consultant and co-founder of public relations firm Perfect Relations. With its maharajah mascot, Air India was once renowned for its lavishly decorated planes and stellar service championed by its founder, JRD Tata, India's first commercial pilot. But since the mid-2000s, the carrier's reputation has worsened as financial troubles mounted. It has flown widebody planes with business class seats in poor condition and grounded some of its new Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab 787 Dreamliners for lack of spare parts. When Tata regained control, the airline was "just in absolute shambles", its CEO Wilson told Reuters in a 2024 interview, noting that some of its planes hadn't had a product refresh since they were delivered in 2010-2011. It has also been ranked the worst airline for flight delays in Britain, where its departures were on average just under 46 minutes behind schedule in 2024, according to analysis of Civil Aviation Authority data by the PA news agency published in May. It has also been reporting losses since at least fiscal 2019-20. In 2023-2024, it reported a net loss of $520 million on sales of $4.6 billion. Before it can make any further progress on these problems, however, it faces the difficult task of investigating one of India's worst aviation disasters ever. "This is a difficult day for all of us at Air India," CEO Wilson said in a video message. "Investigations will take time."
