MACC takes statement from 'Tan Sri' over highway sukuk funds misuse
The MACC today took a statement from an individual with the 'Tan Sri' title in connection with the embezzlement of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in the Klang Valley.
According to sources, two investigating officers from MACC conducted the interview at the Tan Sri's residence in the capital.

Dr Wan Azizah visits Gerik bus crash victims at Taiping Hospital
TAIPING: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has paid a visit to four of the injured victims of the tragic Gerik bus crash incident at Taiping Hospital on Friday (June 13). The wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at 10.25am and was accompanied by the Perak Mentri Besar's wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, Taiping Hospital director Dr Khuzaini Abd Karim and hospital staff members. During her visit, Dr Wan Azizah met the victims who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The victims are Nur Liyana Zanudin, 23, Fakhira Asmalia Zulkifli, 22, Nurul Nadia Abdul Zamid, 21 and Tuan Muhammad Adham Tuan Adnan, 21. She also extended monetary assistance to the victims, but the amount was not disclosed. On June 9, 15 UPSI students were killed when their chartered bus, travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned in a collision with an MPV. The crash also injured 33 others, including the bus driver and attendant, as well as the driver and three passengers of the MPV.

Kota Kinabalu: Familia Superstore Sdn Bhd was fined RM6,000 or a year's jail for selling Al-Qur'an materials containing errors that contravened standards set by the Qur'an Text Printing Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ). Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali meted out the sentence to the company after its Manager Abdul Malik Abdul Manap pleaded guilty to the charge against the company. Advertisement The charge stated that the company had offered to sell decorative Qur'an verse frames which were found to contain textual inaccuracies at the company premises in One Borneo Hypermall, here, on March 25 this year. The act had violated Section 14(1) of the Qur'an Text Printing Act 1986 (Amendment P) 2023 (Act 326), which prohibits the sale of Qur'an materials with errors or those that deviate from officially approved writing conventions. Under the Section, it provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, on conviction. During mitigation, Abdul Malik asked for a lighter sentence saying that he did not know that the requirement to verify the accuracy of Quranic materials before offering them for sale. However, Prosecuting Officer Mechellister Saimon, from the Sabah branch of the Home Affairs Ministry's Enforcement and Control Division, urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence on the grounds that that ignorance of the law was not a valid defence particularly when it involves sanctity of Qur'an verses. Government staff scammed of RM13,000

The victim, aged around 30, received a call from an unknown number claiming to be from the Ministry of Communications and Digital, on May 27. Advertisement Ranau District Police Chief Supt Mursalin bin Mahmud said the caller alleged that the victim's phone number was involved in spreading fake messages related to investments, job offers and gambling. He said the call was then connected to another individual who was supposedly a police officer from the Perak Police Contingent (IPK) Headquarters. 'On May 29, the victim was ordered to transfer RM13,000 into an account in the name of Muhammad Azlan, supposedly for the purpose of 'account protection'. 'The victim was also ordered to send photos and personal information every three hours as a 'self-report',' he said when contacted on Wednesday. According to him, the victim finally realised that it was a scam and then lodged a report at the Ranau Police Station, Tuesday. The case is currently under investigation by police under Section 420 of the Penal Code. 'The public are advised not to panic if they receive a call from an individual claiming to be a police officer or any government agency,' he said. He added that the public is reminded not to disclose personal information, bank account numbers, identity card photos or carry out any financial transactions on instructions to make a phone call. 'The step that needs to be taken is to check the validity of the call immediately through the District Police Headquarters (IPD) or the nearest police station.
