Queen Elizabeth II: Design chosen for special memorial
The new memorial will open in 2026, the year the Queen would have turned 100 years old.Near to the monarch's home in central London, Buckingham Palace, there will be a new space called Queen Elizabeth II Place. Located at Marlborough Gate down The Mall, the road that leads to Buckingham Palace, a statue of Queen Elizabeth sitting on a horse will reflect the former Queen's love of horses. On the other side of the park, by Birdcage Walk, a special Prince Philip Gate will be built, with a statue to remember the Queen's husband, Prince Philip.The memorial will also have winding paths and several beautiful gardens called the "family of gardens". The design aims to support plants, animals, and wildlife living in the park.
The winning design for Queen Elizabeth II's memorial was chosen from a list of five with feedback taken from a public vote. The winning design was put together by architect Lord Norman Foster, who was responsible for The Gherkin skyscraper, also in London.The Queen's former private secretary Lord Janvrin, who worked very closely with her majesty and is chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, described the design as "ambitious and thoughtful".He added that it will "allow us and future generations to appreciate Queen Elizabeth's life of service as she balanced continuity and change with strong values, common sense and optimism throughout her long reign."
Speaking about the design, Lord Foster said: "At the heart of our masterplan is a translucent bridge symbolic of Her Majesty as a unifying force, bringing together nations, countries, the Commonwealth, charities and the armed forces."The bridge, inspired by the then Princess Elizabeth's wedding tiara which was of great sentimental value to her majesty. Featuring 47 bars of diamonds, the tiara's antique metal frame famously snapped when the princess was getting ready on the morning of her wedding, and had to be rushed to a jewellers to be fixed.The priceless headpiece was loaned, by the Queen, to her granddaughter Princess Beatrice for her wedding in 2020.

HBO has revealed the brand-new Weasley family ready to light up screens in the highly anticipated Harry Potter TV reboot. Filming has already kicked off in London this week giving fans an exciting glimpse into the show set to premiere in 2027. 5 5 HBO took to Instagram sharing a first look at the new Weasley family, posting a selfie of some of the actors who are set to bring the beloved redheaded family to life. Alastair Stout, previously announced as Ron Weasley, is now joined by his four on-screen siblings. Twins Tristan and Gabriel Harland are set to bring the iconic duo Fred and George Weasley to life. All whilst Ruari Spooner steps into the role of Percy Weasley. Rounding out the Weasley clan will be Gracie Cochrane who will play youngest daughter Ginny. Fans took to the comments gushing over the selfie, one user said: 'Daaamn impressed for this casting.' 'They genuinely look like they are siblings in real life (heart emoji)' added another. Kneecap rapper faces month-long wait over whether terror charge is thrown out
A member of rap trio Kneecap faces a month-long wait to find out whether his terrorism charge will be thrown out. Liam Og O hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was once again greeted by hundreds of fans as he arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday for a three-hour hearing. Advertisement Prosecutors allege the 27-year-old displayed a flag in support of proscribed terror organisation Hezbollah at a gig at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, in November last year. During Wednesday's hearing, his defence team argued the case should be thrown out, citing a technical error in the way the charge against him was brought. Brenda Campbell KC told the court the Attorney General had not given permission for the case to be brought against the defendant when police informed him he was to face a terror charge on May 21st. She said consent was given the following day, but that meant the charge falls outside of the six-month time frame in which criminal charges against a defendant can be brought. Advertisement Prosecutor Michael Bisgrove said permission was not required until the defendant's first court appearance and that permission did not need to be sought in order to bring a criminal charge. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring adjourned the case until September 26th, when he will rule on whether he has the jurisdiction to try the case. A man was detained by police outside the court building because of a placard he was holding following the hearing. O hAnnaidh was swamped by photographers as he arrived, with security officers taking more than a minute to usher him into the court building. Mr O Caireallain and Mr O Dochartaigh sat at the back of the courtroom with three others as O hAnnaidh confirmed his name, date of birth and address to the court at the start of the hearing.
