Fugitive arrested after 3 years over pregnant woman's murder in Kelantan
The 24-year-old man was detained by a team from the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 7 in Kampung Bukit Lata at 7pm yesterday.
Pasir Mas police chief Assistant Commissioner Kama Azural Mohamed said the suspect was arrested alongside another 24-year-old man.
"Police had earlier spotted a suspicious vehicle and subsequently detained the two men. One of them was identified as the suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman in 2022.
"Both men tested positive for methamphetamine in urine tests," he said when contacted.
The suspect, a local resident of Kampung Pak Jak, has been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.
The remand order, which runs until next Wednesday, was issued by magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
In 2022, it was reported that Farrah Emirah Mazlan, 26, who was seven months pregnant, was found dead with a gunshot wound inside a car by the roadside in Kampung Repek. She was discovered in her Nissan Cetiro at about 4pm.
Police later launched a manhunt for the man to assist in the investigation.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 14-year-old student has been arrested for allegedly punching and threatening a teacher at a secondary school in Kajang. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abd Yusof said the male student was arrested yesterday following a report lodged by a 29-year-old teacher. According to the police report filed on Monday, the teacher claimed he had been punched and threatened by the student on school grounds. "Preliminary investigations showed that the incident stemmed from the student skipping his physical education class, during which he was supposed to be on the field. "The teacher reprimanded him, which led to the student becoming dissatisfied and eventually getting into a fight with the complainant. "The student then punched the teacher in the face and issued threats in the presence of several teachers and students," Naazron said in a statement yesterday. He added that the case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. If convicted under Section 323, the offender may face up to one year in prison, a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both. For Section 506, the penalty includes up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. Naazron said the student has been remanded for two days and is expected to be charged in the magistrate's court today. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Amirul Abd Wahab at 013-549 5236 to assist with the investigation. "The police also advise school students to comply with school regulations and refrain from actions that could jeopardise their future."

'How could anyone do this to Tishant'
JOHOR BARU: A sombre mood enveloped a house in Bandar Seri Alam, Masai, as the hearse carrying six-year-old A. Tishant arrived at the premises. It was just past 9.30pm when the van from the Rembau Hospital Forensic Unit rolled into the driveway, greeted by grieving family members and relatives who had begun gathering as early as 7pm. Many were still in shock over what had happened to the boy, and they politely declined requests from the media for interviews or coverage. Among those inconsolable was a woman believed to be Tishant's great-grandmother, who briefly spoke to reporters. "He was a bright boy, so loving, and spoke such good English. "I never imagined he would be treated this way, to the point that his face no longer looked the same. "I don't know how long he had been buried in the ground. I can't believe someone could bring themselves to do such a thing." The woman, who declined to be named, said Tishant's mother has been traumatised since learning of her son's death. "My granddaughter, the boy's mother, and my daughter, Tishant's grandmother, are both unwell. "Tishant's mother loved him dearly and often took pictures of him. "We can't imagine how she will cope with this. We can only pray for strength, though we too are struggling to face this." It was reported that the boy's body was found buried in an area in Rompin, Jempol, around 4.30pm yesterday, five days after he was reported missing. Police said the discovery was made following the arrest of the boy's 36-year-old father, who was detained on the same day he lodged a missing person report on July 24. The suspect has been remanded for seven days from July 25 to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with the post-mortem confirming that the boy had been strangled with a cable tie.

GOF foils smuggling bid, arrest undocumented migrants
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) stopped two human smuggling attempts in Kelantan over two days, arresting several undocumented migrants and two suspected tekong darat (name given by locals to those harbouring illegal immigrants). GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the operations, which began on Sunday, were part of Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan. He said the Seventh Battalion detained a vehicle at a roadblock in Chabang Empat Salam, Rantau Panjang, around 3pm Sunday, on suspicion of transporting undocumented migrants. "Upon inspection, (they) found three men and two women from Myanmar, all without valid identification. "The 38-year-old local driver was arrested under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM), while the five Myanmar nationals were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said. He said the driver also tested positive for methamphetamine. In a separate raid just after midnight on Monday, GOF personnel stormed a house in Kampung Slow Machang, Pasir Mas. "The raid followed intelligence on smuggling activities. "A 50-year-old local man, believed to be the tekong darat, tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended. Officers also found two men and two women from Myanmar, all undocumented and believed to have entered Malaysia illegally. The team also seized 14 Yaba pills hidden in a cigarette box belonging to the suspect. All undocumented migrants were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, while the suspected smugglers were arrested under Section 26J of the ATIPSOM Act and Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He said the GOF remains committed to tackling cross-border crimes, especially human trafficking and drug-related offences.
