Mindmatics, Nexcore form cyber security ties
The purpose of this collaboration is to merge Mindmatics' expertise in defence electronic systems with Nexcore's AI technological innovation to develop the Next Generation AI Multi-source Communication Box.
This collaboration also focuses on enhancing secure data exchange through the integration of post-quantum cryptography (PQC), ensuring that communications remain protected even against future quantum computing risks.
This strategic partnership emerges at a time when integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into cyber defence is essential to combat increasingly sophisticated and constantly evolving cyber threats.
Mindmatics director Abdul Wahab Sulaiman emphasised the urgency of this collaboration.
'As cyber threats grow increasingly sophisticated, traditional security measures are no longer enough to ensure protection.
'The future of cyber defence hinges on AI's ability not only to counter threats, but to stay ahead of them.
'Our solutions go beyond reactive measures; they autonomously anticipate, adapt, and neutralise risks, providing nations with a decisive edge in the digital era,' he stated at the Cyber Defence and Security Exhibition and Conference (CYDES 2025) held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
He further elaborated, 'Mindmatics is at the forefront of this new era, offering a state-of-the-art solution that combines real-time AI-driven encryption, predictive threat analytics and adaptive machine learning.
'By leveraging these advanced technologies, our new solutions can detect and neutralise risks before they emerge, providing robust security for classified and operational communications – even against the most advanced cyber threats,' he said.
The AI-powered development implemented in the Next Generation AI Multi-source Communication Box and Cyber Defence System will significantly enhance and strengthen AI capabilities within local Malaysian companies, ensuring that technology is tailored to meet the country's operational requirements and security environments.
This advancement will not only strengthen the country's technological sovereignty but also build expertise in integrating AI into defence and cybersecurity applications.
Through this collaboration, Mindmatics and Nexcore are positioning Malaysia at the forefront of intelligent defence technologies by leveraging AI as a critical cybersecurity tool and a transformative capability across all defence system domains, ensuring the nation's readiness and resilience to confront both current and future security challenges while positioning Malaysia as a leader in the regional and global defence technology landscape.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) spokesperson said on Friday (Aug 15) that Singapore permanent residents who have been convicted of an offence will have their PR status reviewed. 'ICA will review Mr Ong Beng Seng's permanent residency since he has been convicted and sentenced,' added the spokesperson. Ong, who is a Malaysian citizen, was fined S$30,000 on Aug 15 after he pleaded guilty earlier to one charge of abetting the obstruction of justice in a case linked to former transport minister S. Iswaran. The judge agreed with the prosecution and defence that judicial mercy should be exercised in this case due to Ong's ill health. Ong was born in Malaysia in 1946 and came to Singapore at the age of four. He worked in international insurance underwriting and broking in Europe, London and South-east Asia before joining Motor & General Underwriters Investment Holdings in the late 1960s. Ong married Christina Fu, herself a prominent businesswoman, in 1972. In 1975, he joined Kuo International, an oil trading company owned by his father-in-law Peter Fu. There, he made millions, accurately predicting the ups and downs of oil prices. The capital earned during this time is said to have helped finance his later investments and property developments. Ong set up Hotel Properties Limited (HPL) in 1980 and went on to acquire a number of hotels around the world, and properties in prime locations such as Orchard Road. On April 29, Ong stepped down as HPL managing director, with the tycoon indicating that he wanted to devote more time to managing his medical conditions. - The Straits Times/ANN

Global Market Volatility, Supply Concerns Likely To Drive Malaysian Rubber Prices Next Week
WORLD By Rosemarie Khoo Mohd Sani KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian rubber market is expected to experience a mixed trend next week, as volatility in global commodity and financial markets continues to influence regional rubber futures, said the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA). The association said key factors likely to drive the market include the latest United States (US) tariffs, the ringgit-US dollar exchange rate, and fluctuations in benchmark crude oil prices. 'MARGMA believes the tariffs could signal a slowing US economy, as they are expected to drive up the cost of imported raw materials. 'Additionally, heightened speculation regarding the appointment of the next US Federal Reserve chair is expected to contribute to market uncertainty,' it told Bernama. The association added that developments related to US trade tariffs and interest rate policies, as well as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, would closely be monitored by traders. On the supply side, MARGMA said heavy rains anticipated in major rubber-producing countries, particularly Thailand, could disrupt supply. In Malaysia, natural rubber production rose 5.9 per cent month-on-month in June 2025, indicating healthy production capacity. It noted that the 90-day extension of the tariff pause between the US and China, together with China's 7.2 per cent export surge in July and growth in its services sector, could lend support to demand.
