The intruders then set fire to the home in Lambourne Road, while the victim's partner, Gary Campbell and two-year-old daughter cheated death by escaping through an upstairs window.
Police arrested 21 people as part of their investigations, but no-one has been convicted for their role in Lucy's tragic death.
It's believed the gang were looking for Mr Campbell.
Campbell had allegedly been a passenger in a stolen car that had hit and killed a young boy 12 years earlier, supposedly the motive for the shooting.

He denied he was in the car at the time.
Cops have continued to urge anyone with information about a gold Lexus car which was reportedly dumped following the shooting to come forward.
A cluster of men are believed to have discarded the motor on Richard Kelly Drive, Clubmoor.
The individuals then raced towards Normandale Road.

Detectives previously pointed to Kevin Thomas Parle as a person of interest.
Parle, who was believed to be living abroad, was also wanted in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Liam Kelly who was murdered in June 2004 in Dingle, Liverpool.

Howard Rubbery, head of the Serious Crime Review Unit at Merseyside Police, said: "The family remain absolutely devastated by Lucy's death.
"It's important to note Lucy is an absolutely innocent victim. She's not from a family of criminality. She wasn't involved in criminality.

"The hunt for Kevin Parle is very much on, and we ask anybody with information, anybody who is close to Parle and knows where he is, to please come forward.
"There were three males responsible for this offence and we are looking for justice for Lucy's family in relation to all three.
"I do believe that there are people out there who have yet to speak to the police, even though it's 20 years on, who hold information that's absolutely vital to our investigation."
Two decades on from Lucy's death, her brave family released a previously unshared photograph of the mother-of-three, taken at college.

They said: "Over the past 20 years, people will have talked with family and friends.
"A number of people were contacted by males using a phone that was stolen, along with a vehicle used in Lucy's murder.
"The people who received those calls, along with others, could have information which could be crucial in achieving justice for Lucy, her parents, sister, children and all her extended family and friends.
"We appeal directly to them to please come forward.

"Now is the time."
Ms Hargreaves' family, who said they "miss her every single day", welcomed a focus on tackling violence against women and girls in recent years.
They praised the families of other victims of gun crime, including the mothers of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt Korbel and Ashley Dale, 28, who were shot in their homes in separate incidents in Liverpool in August 2022.
The family said: "We greatly admire the determination and guts of the families of those who have more recently been killed as a result of gun crime here in Merseyside.

"The mums of both Ashley Dale and Olivia Pratt Korbel have led a real and powerful community challenge to men of violence."
The family added: "We consider ourselves to be an ordinary local family with strong roots in the Walton, Norris Green, Croxteth and Dovecot areas of Liverpool.
"Lucy's nanny Joyce was a strong mother of eight who had to cope with the loss of three granddaughters in her lifetime - including Lucy.
"Her nanny Betty, left a widow aged 35 with six children to bring up, was awarded the British Empire Medal for her services to nursing as an auxiliary nurse in the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

"They were two strong local women typical of their generation, and Lucy too was a strong woman who could have achieved so much had she only been given the opportunity."

The funeral of murder victim Stephen Brannigan will be held this weekend. The 56-year-old died following an incident in the Marian Park area of Downpatrick on Sunday. Mr Brannigan, a father and a grandfather, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers and ambulance service personnel were called to the property following a report of the death of a man at the address. The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 16 in St. Brigid's Church in Downpatrick and will be followed by interment in Struell Cemetery. Stephen Brannigan News in 90 Seconds - August 14th The chapel is the same place where a prayer vigil was held last Sunday evening after his body was discovered. Prayers at this gathering were also said for Fr John Murray, who had been assaulted with a bottle in the sacristy of St Patrick's Church. The elderly priest who was due to retire this week is reportedly 'progressing' in hospital. In the funeral notice, Mr Brannigan is remembered as a beloved father and grandfather. 'Dearly beloved husband of the late Dorenda, and much loved father of Gemma and Ciara, loving grandfather of Sophie, Lily, Connor, Clodagh, Holly and Ruairi, dear son of Gerry and Kathleen, and brother of Damien, Michelle, Adrian and Paul,' the funeral notice read. "It means so much to us at this difficult time and reflects the very special people who make up the Marian Park and wider Downpatrick community. "Stephen was known among his neighbours and friends as someone who was always willing to help out, ready to do whatever needed to be done for the good of others. "Even the day before he died, he was tending the graves of friends and neighbours, as he did, almost every day, the grave of his late wife Dorenda, who died five years ago from cancer. "Stephen faced many difficult issues in his life. We know his life was not perfect. But for us, he was our dad, our grandad, our son and our brother. "His rock through all of this was Dorenda. We pray they will be reunited now in perfect peace and love.' Hugh Malone appeared in court on Wednesday after being charged with the murder of Mr Brannigan, and attempted murder of Fr Murray. I watched my little girl take last breaths in pool of bubbles as she drowned at water park party… lifeguard didn't help
The devastated father watched on as a lifeguard failed to save his daughter's life FINAL MOMENTS I watched my little girl take last breaths in pool of bubbles as she drowned at water park party… lifeguard didn't help A FATHER has spoken out after he watched his young daughter drown in a tragic incident at a water park. Kyra Hill, 11, died at a birthday party after drowning in a designated swimming area at Liquid Leisure in Windsor. Advertisement 7 Kyra's grieving parents described the moment they lost their daughter Credit: Good Morning Britain / X 7 Kyra, 11, vanished in August 2022 while at a leisure centre birthday party Credit: PA An inquest previously heard how the water Kyra drowned in was marked as "shallow." Her heartbroken parents have now spoken out about the horror of watching their daughter take her last breaths. Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Kyra's father, Leonard, spoke about watching on in horror as his daughter sunk below the murky water three times while a lifeguard watched on and did nothing. He described seeing CCTV footage showing the 17-year-old life guard fail to act while standing in the exact spot his daughter drowned. Advertisement Kyra vanished in August 2022 while attending the leisure centre with her family. Authorities were called but the youth was tragically found over an hour later. She had drowned in a body of water 2.68 meters deep despite a 17-year-old lifeguard managing to reach the exact point where she disappeared under the water. An inquest into Kyra's death heard that the lifeguard was unable to rescue her as the staff at Liquid Leisure were only qualified to perform "surface-water rescues." Advertisement Kyra's parents are now battling for tighter safety measures to be implemented at leisure centres in the hopes of preventing another tragedy. They say that the lifeguard should have been able to rescue their daughter from drowning and are calling for better training to be provided. Man, 24, dies after falling into paddling pool in back garden and drowning in 'freak accident' Kyra's dad described CCTV footage showing the lifeguard standing in a "pool of bubbles" at Kyra's "pinpoint location" as his daughter took her last breath. He told how he felt the lifeguard was "never going to dive under" to save his daughter. Advertisement Leonard added that the lifeguard had "not been trained, she was only trained in surface rescue" saying that the teen lifeguard was "not equipped with the right tools." Kyra's grief stricken family are pushing for safety regulations to be improved around water parks, asking for CCTV to be manned at all times. 7 Kyra's dad, Leonard, described watching footage of his daughter take her last breaths Credit: Good Morning Britain / X 7 Kyras mum, Heather, is calling for safety at leisure centres to be improved Credit: Good Morning Britain / X Advertisement 7 An inquest ruled that Kyra's tragic death was unlawful Credit: PA The couple pointed out that no emergency plan or protocol was in place at the leisure centre. Kyra's mother, Heather, said that despite CCTV footage capturing her daughters death no staff were trained or briefed on how to respond in an emergency situation. CCTV footage at the pool was not being monitored she said, adding that it took more than an hour for the footage to be checked after emergency services arrived. Advertisement Shortly after the CCTV was seen, a diver managed to locate Kyra and pull her body from the water. Kyra's tragic death was previously ruled as unlawful at an inquest. At the time the coroner commented on poor signage describing deep water as "shallow." The coroner, Heidi Connor, went on to describe the sings as "falsely reassuring." Advertisement Ms Connor also commented on children being permitted to swim without buoyancy aids and parents not being advised to attend with a ratio of one adult per four children. Rachel Marcus, representing Kyra's devastated family, asked the coroner to consider a charge of gross negligence manslaughter by Liquid Leisure owner Stuart Marston. She also called for an additional charge of corporate manslaughter. The inquest found breaches included the lack of an emergency plan or a risk assessment. Ex-Marine sobs as he appears in court accused of mowing down crowd in Liverpool parade rampage – as more charges added
PARADE HORROR Ex-Marine sobs as he appears in court accused of mowing down crowd in Liverpool parade rampage – as more charges added A FORMER Marine sobbed as he appeared in court today accused of using his car as a "weapon" to mow down crowds at the Liverpool victory parade. Paul Doyle was held after 134 people including a six-month-old baby were injured in the horror on May 26. 7 Paul Doyle has appeared in court charged over the Liverpool crash rampage Credit: Facebook 7 Footage showed the car driving through a crowd 7 Police swooped on the vehicle as the crowds were scattered 7 Police confirmed 134 people were injured in the horror Credit: PA The 53-year-old is accused of dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. Doyle, from the West Derby area of Liverpool, is also charged with wounding with intent to cause GBH and attempted GBH. The dad-of-three appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today where wept throughout proceedings. He was due to enter a plea but the judge adjourned the case until September 4 after more charges were added to the indictment. Reporting restrictions were added on some of the complainants, who are aged six months, ten, 12, 13 and 17. The court heard previously Doyle had "driven deliberately" into the crowd of football fans and allegedly used his car as a "weapon". Merseyside Police previously out terrorism as a possible motive for the alleged attack. Doyle was a Royal Marine commando but is now understood to be a businessman who ran a now-dissolved firm. He has previously competed in triathlons and enjoyed luxury holidays. Neighbours in his quiet suburb claimed his wife only found out about the crash when she saw the car on the news. The carnage unfolded as thousands of Liverpool fans packed the streets to watch the title winners parade the Premier League trophy on an open-top bus. It was the first time since 1990 that fans could celebrate a title win with a parade after their 2020 success came during the pandemic. But the festivities quickly turned to horror when a dark grey Ford Galaxy suddenly appeared in Water Street. Merseyside Police confirmed the car had followed an ambulance beyond the cordon as medics were called to help a member of the public having a suspected heart attack. Mobile phone footage showed it ploughing into the crowd as screams were heard. It then came to a stop as fearless fans rushed over in a bid to drag the driver from the car. But the vehicle then lurched forward again - sending pedestrians scattering before finally coming to a standstill. Fire crews arrived to find four people trapped under the vehicle, including a child, and worked quickly to free them. Sir Keir Starmer released a statement at the time, saying: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. "I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. "I'm being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate." While Liverpool FC said: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening. "Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. "We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident." 7 The dad is a former Royal Marine 7 Thousands had flooded the streets when the horror unfolded Credit: PA
