And it's also where you'll find a great seaside pub

Chesil Beach is the longest and largest in the UK making it a very popular spot for UK tourists.
It stretches for 18 miles from Portland to West Bay in Dorset - in fact, Chesil Beach actually connects the Isle of Portland to the mainland.
And on the Isle of Portland, visitors can enjoy the views of Chesil Beach from a great coastal pub.
Big 7 Travel has dropped a list of their 25 best spots for a seaside pint and Portland's Cove House Inn has made an appearance on the list.
The Cove House Inn is an 18th-century pub on the Isle of Portland in Dorset and sits right on the esplanade.
On a sunny day, visitors can sit outside under sun umbrellas and enjoy a pint or even a bite to eat.
The pub is highly-rated on Tripadvisor and is number one out of the 32 restaurants on the Isle of Portland.
One visitor commented: "And the VIEWS! Amazing - right on Chesil beach with views out to sea. What a gem of a place."
Another added: "This place is amazing...great food, great atmosphere and such friendly staff. The view is beautiful as well. I had the best fish and chips I have ever tasted - just perfect."
On the menu is a selection of burgers from £13.50, lots of seafood dishes from fish pie to wholetail scampi and fish and chips.

On Sundays, visitors can enjoy roast dinner options.
The pub is open between 12pm and 10.30pm Tuesday to Saturday. On Sundays, its opening hours are 12pm to 6pm.
With the boozer right on the edge of Chesil Beach, you might even spot some incredible wildlife too.
Dolphins are sometimes spotted off the coast as are porpoises and some people have even said they've seen whales - so take some binoculars too.
Chesil Beach is also famous for having a lagoon, the shingle shore acts as a barrier between the sea and Fleet Lagoon.
Fleet Lagoon is a large saline lake, which is one of the last undisturbed brackish lagoons left in the world.
And it's home to lots of wildlife from little terns, wigeon, pochard, coots, even osprey have been seen on occasion.
But while Chesil Beach is very beautiful and the water can be tempting, sadly it's not recommended to swim there because of its very strong undercurrents.
If you want to swim, Chesil Cove, is the place to be.
You'll find this spot on the Isle of Portland at the southern end of Chesil Beach where the beach curves towards the cliffs.
Plus, check out the English seaside town with no arcades or rides but named the best in the UK.
And discover the UK's sunniest beach town that feels like going back in time has 'no arcades' and barely any rain.

Two UK train stations to SHUT this month for £11billion railway upgrade – and one won't reopen until 2027

Customers have been warned to plan their journeys ahead of travelling SIDETRACKED Two UK train stations to SHUT this month for £11billion railway upgrade – and one won't reopen until 2027 Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO UK railway stations are set to shut this month as part of an £11billion railway upgrade - and one of them won't reopen until 2027. It comes amid major investment in stations and trains across the country with services impacted in several parts of the UK. The aim is to improve customer journeys across the North and facilitate better transport links between towns and cities like Manchester and Leeds. Now, as major work begins to take place in the railways across Huddersfield and Deighton, customers have been urged to plan ahead. Gareth Hope, TRU sponsor, said: 'This period marks one of the most significant phases of work on the Transpennine Route Upgrade to date, delivering vital improvements that will bring faster, more reliable journeys to customers for generations. 'Whilst we know our work will cause disruption, we'd like to thank customers and local residents for their patience as we deliver generational change to their stations and their rail journeys.' Exact closure dates Huddersfield train station will be closed from Saturday, August 30 until Sunday, September 28. During this time, the Huddersfield viaduct will be updated and the John William Street will be replaced. Platforms, and track renewals will also be carried out as planned as well as signal updates. Train services from Huddersfield towards Manchester, Leeds, York, Bradford and Sheffield will be affected during this time. But where possible, diversions will be in place to allow customers to travel on trains Picturesque English town is getting new £27m train line for first time in 60 years – & will cut journey times by an hour However, customers are urged to check before travelling via or their train operator's website When the station reopens in September it will only be on a temporary position until the station is complete in 2027. And it will only run with three platforms in use instead of six during that time. Deighton station will also close on August 30th, but it won't reopen until 2027. Three scenic train journeys you can take in the UK Cornish Coast - One trip that rail enthusiasts seem to love is along a stretch of the Cornish coast and takes just 10 minutes to complete. The route from St Erth to St Ives only stops at Carbis Bay en route to its final destination, but the views out the window for the whole journey are pretty spectacular. Another highlight of the journey is that St Ives station is situated right next to Porthminster beach, meaning the sand and sea can be accessed almost immediately. Meanwhile, the station is less than a ten minute walk into town, where the harbour, shops, galleries and pubs can be explored. Durham to Edinburgh - Another train route that people in the UK love is the East Coast train line between Durham and Edinburgh, with coastal views and city landscapes among the sights that can be seen out the window. Newcastle, Berwick, Lindisfarne and Durham Cathedral are all among the highlights on that route. Scotland's West Highland Line - While Scotland is home to plenty of famous landmarks and top attractions, it also has one of the most breathtaking train routes in the world. Scotland's West Highland Line has previously been dubbed the best rail journey in the world by Wanderlust - and it's easy to see why. The journey from Glasgow to Fort William is one of my favourite train routes - and I've interrailed through mainland Europe. With mountain landscapes, serene lochs, wistful moors, and wildlife all visible through the train window, it's certainly a route all holidaymakers should consider doing at least once. Once open, the new Deighton station will boast two new tracks to allow faster services to overtake slower ones. It will also extend platforms to facilitate longer trains with more seats for passengers and there will also be a new footbridge with lifts for step-free access to both platforms. During both railway closures, hourly rail replacement buses will operate to enable passengers to complete their journeys. During this time, there will also be a number of road closures around both stations. However, customers are urged to check before travelling via or their train operator's website. The closures come as another railway line is set to shut next month. Thousands of passengers travelling to Gatwick Airport will be affected sparking travel chaos for holidaymakers.

The best curry houses in England revealed — find your local with our map

Whether you share a table full of dishes or keep your curry to yourself, you'll want to know which spots are worth visiting. And now you can. The English Curry Awards 2025 have named the nation's best curry houses, serving up a list of must-visit restaurants from the north east to the south west coast. Taking the top title of Curry Restaurant of the Year was Sher Khan in Alnwick, Northumberland. It also scooped the award for the best curry house in the North East, impressing diners with its warm service and rich flavours. Located in the heart of rural Northumberland, Alnwick is best known for its historic castle, a filming location for Harry Potter, and its picturesque cobbled streets filled with independent shops and cafés. It's a tiny market town, making Sher Khan's national win all the more impressive. The multi-award winning restaurant boasts a 4.7 TripAdvisor rating, based on over 500 reviews, with customers praising its 'friendly reception' and 'tasty food'. One described it as 'Simply the best in Alnwick'. On the menu, you'll find classics like jalfrezi and tandoori chicken alongside a variety of other regional favourites. But if you don't live in the north east, don't worry, plenty of other restaurants have received awards this year. In the North West, Aroma Asian Restaurant in Burnley claimed the crown. The family run restaurant has been creating authentic cuisine since 2007, according to its website and is another highly-lauded establishment on Tripadvisor, with 4.7 stars. Reviews describe the food as 'perfect', with hundreds of other reviews impressed by the service and quality too. Khandan Restaurant in Wellington was named the best in Yorkshire and the Humber. Everest Lounge in Market Harborough topped the East Midlands and Lavang in Solihull took the West Midlands award. Spice Valley in Norwich was named the best in the East of England, while Spice Route in Andover won the South East, and Mattancherry in Taunton triumphed in the South West. Aside from the regional accolades, awards were also handed out to the best curry houses in cities across England. Those looking for the best in the capital will have to head to the Masala Inn in Bexleyheath. The small restaurant in southeast London has both takeaway and dine-in options available and is open seven days a week. It'll set you back around £15 for a main course. The restaurant has a 4.7 Tripadvisor rating, based on over 400 reviews. One pleased customer wrote: 'Absolutely wonderful and well spiced food. The staff was unreal and so kind and caring. 'Will definitely be coming back, can't explain how good the food was.' Meanwhile, Spice n Spirits was crowned as Manchester's best. The takeaway is located in Little Hulton, Salford, and has a small dining area but they also have a cozy dine-in spot near Bolton. The menu features a variety of Indian-style street dishes, you'll find starters from around £4 and mains from £10. The restaurant has 4.6 stars on Tripadvisor, full of satisfied customers. One described it as the 'best Indian restaurant in Manchester with spectacular service'. Another wrote it was 'best Indian restaurant for miles', with 'superb food and great service even when very busy'. More Trending The awards ceremony, held on Monday, August 11, at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham, brought together chefs, restaurateurs, and industry figures from across the country for a night celebrating the diversity of England's curry scene. Irfan Younis, a spokesperson for The English Curry Awards 2025 said: 'It was another memorable event that honoured the dedication and hard work of the nominees and celebrated the rich tapestry of flavours that the curry industry brings to the English culinary landscape. 'The awards provide a platform to applaud the exceptional efforts of those who have made significant contribution to the curry sector and continue to elevate the nation's love for curry. Italy's ‘best-kept secret' is just 30 minutes from Venice

Let's face it, fighting your way through crowds is something no one wants on holiday. While popular tourist destinations like Venice and Barcelona offer spectacular sights and amazing experiences, you'll likely be sharing them with more than a few fellow tourists. In fact, many large European cities are now pushing back against overtourism, rolling out city taxes, entry fees for day trippers, and restrictions on large tour groups. It means that travellers are starting to turn to 'destination dupes' (like the 'Venice of France') and other 'hidden gems' that offer all the romance and architectural beauty of more popular places with a fraction of the crowds. So, if you're planning a trip to Italy, but don't fancy the throngs of tourists amassing in Venice, Rome, or Florence, then this might be the perfect spot for you. Enter, Treviso. A medieval Italian beauty spot where it's said you can actually hear yourself think. Here's everything you need to know. Fuel your wanderlust with our curated newsletter of travel deals, guides and inspiration. Sign up here. Treviso is located in northeastern Italy, just north of Venice and south of the Italian Alps. The city is the capital of the province of the same name, in the Veneto region. While Venice is the nearest large city (between 30 and 40 minutes by car), Treviso is not far from Castelfranco Veneto and Conegliano, and is about 50 minutes from Padua. Treviso is famous for its beauty and historic architecture. Like Venice, the streets are mixed with canals, and you traverse it via a maze of medieval bridges. While they might not be on the scale of the Grand Canal in Venice, Treviso's 'Canale dei Buranelli' are ridiculously beautiful. They were built for fishermen from Burano who visited the city to trade. Wrought-iron bridges connect the streets, and you'll be able to spot red-brick Renaissance palaces, frescoed churches, and a network of old piazzas. With up to 120,000 visitors a day often traipsing through nearby Venice, you'll be able to traverse Treviso in a much calmer environment, stopping to enjoy the beauty without fear of shoulder barging or passive-aggressive comments from people in Hawaiian shirts. Visitors seem to adore the city, with Italianontour posting a love letter to the town on Instagram, saying: 'Medieval walls, charming houses reflecting in the water, and streets lined with cafes calling you to partake in aperitivo culture. 'Treviso is where Tiramisù was born, where locals still gather in piazzas, and where you can actually HEAR yourself think.' One traveller on TripAdvisor said, 'I've had two short visits to Treviso which I loved. There's plenty to do and see within the town but it's also a great transport hub for day trips.' Another added: 'We barely scratched the surface of what to do there during our 2 days all those years ago. And we were enchanted with what we saw then.' While wandering the streets could occupy an entire trip, some activities in Treviso are worth taking the time to explore, including private guided walking tours. However, if you're anything like me, then dining will be high on your agenda, and here, you are very much in luck if you have a sweet tooth. Treviso is known as the 'home of the Tiramisù', and while, like all things, the exact origins may be disputed, Le Beccherie claims to be the first to list the dish on its menu in 1972. Made from the traditional ingredients of bitter cocoa, coffee, mascarpone, savoiardi or ladyfinger biscuits, egg yolks (no whites) and granulated sugar, sampling the world-famous dessert in its (probable) hometown should definitely be on the list. The Piazza dei Signori offers a great lunch spot for people watching, and other points of interest include the Centro Storico Di Treviso, the Fontana delle Tette (which may raise an eyebrow or two after a Google), and the Isola della Pescheria. If you have time to get out of town into the rural surroundings, book a wine tasting and vineyard tour, which are bound to delight the most sophisticated of palates. Treviso has an airport, Treviso Airport (TSF), also known as Venice-Treviso Airport. Several budget airlines fly there from the UK, including Ryanair, and it's only around ten minutes by car into town. However, it's also possible to land at nearby Venice Marco Polo (VCE) if you find a cheaper flight deal, which is about 30 minutes from Treviso by rental car or taxi. If you prefer to use public transport, Venice Marco Polo has bus links into the city, where you can take an RV train to Treviso from Venice Mestre, with the entire journey taking around an hour. Massimiliano Basso (who now resides in Chester, UK, running The Greenhouse restaurant) grew up just 30 minutes away from Treviso and visited often. More Trending Massimiliano told Metro the city is as popular with locals as it is with tourists, saying 'I spent many afternoons and evenings in Treviso, as it's one of the biggest cities near the town I used to live in Italy. 'Sometimes for shopping, but most of the time just for a nice Aperol Spritz in the Piazza dei Signori.' 'The atmosphere is the real attraction of Treviso, and sitting in one of the bars in the piazza overlooking the Palazzo dei Trecento somehow makes life just seem slower'.
