Prime Video adds 'one of the best sequels ever' two months after cinema release
Fans think it was one of the best films released this year
Prime Video has just added what's being hailed as the 'action film of the year' and 'one of the best sequels ever'.
The Accountant 2, a follow-up to the 2016 original, is now part of Amazon's streaming library as of today (June 5), despite only hitting cinemas earlier this year. The first film, considered a hidden gem by many, can be viewed with a Sky Cinema subscription or a NOW membership.
Ben Affleck reprises his role as forensic accountant Christian Wolff in the sequel, teaming up with his estranged yet deadly brother, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, to hunt down elusive assassins.
Rumours of a sequel began circulating in 2017, but as time passed, it seemed to fade from fans' minds. Speculation about a third instalment has also been rife, with filming for the sequel only starting in March last year.
Despite lukewarm critical reception for the first film, it became a fan favourite, and followers have finally been rewarded with a sequel. Bill Dubuque, the original writer who later created the Netflix series Ozark, returned to write the script and also took on directing duties, reports Bristol Live.
The sequel has outperformed its predecessor both commercially and critically, earning a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans have been quick to laud it both as a standalone action film and for its achievements as a sequel.
One devotee put it succinctly: "one of the best sequels ever". Another remarked: "This is probably the best action movie of the year. The test of a good sequel, for me, is that it works as movie in its own right, which this does. Whilst it will not win any Oscars, it was thoroughly enjoyable and made us laugh. The story line connects well to the original movie and the dynamic between the brothers is both funny and serious at the same time."
Sharing their verdict on social media, another added: "This is how you do a sequel! The Accountant 2 blew me away. Unlike most action sequels that just go bigger and louder, this one slows down when it needs to and it works. The relationship between the brothers actually matters, and that emotional core gives the action real weight."
They elaborated: "There's comedy that actually made me laugh, a bit of romance, and a moment or two that hit surprisingly hard. And yeah, when it's time to throw down, the fight scenes are slick, brutal, and insanely fun to watch. I came for the action, stayed for the characters, and left fully satisfied. Give me The Accountant 3 now!"
While many spectators had previously declared the original film as Affleck's finest hour, some are now suggesting that the follow-up offers Daredevil actor Bernthal his crowning moment.
One viewer praised Bernthal's performance, saying: "Bernthal is a national treasure. It was nice to see him do his thing in an action movie and not have nightmares from his grunting noises he does as the Punisher. He has never disappointed in any film, and made this movie 100% better just being in it."

Look away Ben! Jennifer Lopez kisses a major movie star on the lips for sexiest role yet... after divorcing Affleck
Jennifer Lopez has landed her sexiest role to date. The 55-year-old diva was seen in silky lingerie while locking lips with Diego Luna, 45, in the first trailer for her movie Kiss Of The Spider Woman. And, interestingly, the film has been executive produced by her ex-husband Ben Affleck as well as his best friend Matt Damon. The film is a new version of the 1993 Broadway musical, which was based on Manuel Puig's 1976 novel of the same name. Lopez plays an imaginary figure named Aurora, who was dreamed up by jailed gay hairdresser Luis Molina (Tonatiuh). The musical from director Bill Condon is set to debut on October 10, 2025. In the story, Molina is serving eight years behind bars 'for corrupting a minor.' He imagines films starring Aurora - in a role previously played by Sonia Braga - to escape his misery while imprisoned. The Bronx-bred actress plays an imaginary figure named Aurora, who was dreamed up by jailed gay hairdresser Luis Molina The film stars Tonatiuh (pictured) as the hairdresser and Luna as his cellmate. In one of the fantasized productions, Aurora embodies a spider woman who kisses her victims to kill them. Throughout the narrative, Molina forms a connection with his cellmate Valentin Arregui (Luna), who's a Marxist. Rehearsals began in February 2024, and filming kicked off in New Jersey in April. A film adaptation of the book was previously made in 1985 by director Héctor Babenco. Both the film and the Broadway show were critically acclaimed, scoring various awards and accolades. It's a whole new vibe for this singer, dancer and actress William Hurt, who played Molina in the feature, won an Oscar for Best Actor. Meanwhile, the musical earned a whopping seven Tony Awards, including one for best musical. Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January. It will be released in theaters on October 10, 2025. Other films that Jennifer and Ben worked on together include This Is Me... Now and Unstoppable. They also collaborated on a hilarious Dunkin' Donuts commercial with Damon. Jennifer and Ben - who used to be called Bennifer - met on the set of the comedy Gigli over 20 years ago. Lopez recently wrapped filming on her latest romantic comedy Office Romance, in which she stars alongside 43-year-old Brett Goldstein, best known for his role in Ted Lasso. Her shoot concluded shortly before Jennifer and her former partner Affleck, 51, reportedly made a significant reduction to the asking price of their mansion in Bel Air, California . According to a report by TMZ, the couple dropped the price of the 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom estate from $68 million to $60 million, after originally purchasing the property in May 2023 for $60,850,000. The property was first listed for sale in July 2024. Sources told TMZ Ben had been pushing for the price cut, reportedly urging Jennifer to agree so the house would sell. 'Ben wants to get rid of it because their divorce is over and he wants to cut all ties and have it be done,' an insider said. 'He just wants it over and to sell it. He wants to reduce the price.' Another source told TMZ: 'Jennifer thinks they can get more money for the home, so she wants to keep the price as is. But the real estate market is not there and it's not selling.' Experts cited by the site said the estate was overpriced, suggesting it would need to be reduced by at least 15 percent to attract buyers. Insurance costs have also proven a deterrent, with annual fire insurance for the hillside property estimated at $500,000. Wildfires in Southern California earlier this year further intensified concerns. In August 2024, one month after the listing, Jennifer and Ben reportedly accepted a $64 million offer from a New Jersey couple, only for the deal to fall through due to a family bereavement. Jennifer Garner, 53, reveals whether she has done Botox and if she'll ever get plastic surgery
Jennifer Garner has come clean about what cosmetic procedures she has done. The 53-year-old admitted she has tried Botox. 'I don't do a ton, and Botox doesn't work very well for me; that's why I wear bangs a lot. I like to be able to move my forehead, and it's such a big part of my face. I have, like, a five-head,' she told Harper's Bazaar. 'As far as injectables go, I think just find somebody fantastic and proceed with caution,' she suggested. And she added if she would ever get plastic surgery. 'I haven't needed it yet, but I can't say that I haven't said to doctors before, 'Do I need to do this?' And I've had really nice doctors who have just been like, 'No,'' she shared. 'So, God only knows 10 years from now what the conversation will be. I'm not there yet.' 'My advice is to look at the mirror less and be cautious when it comes to injecting anything into your face,' she told Harper's Bazaar in July 2022 when asked about the advice she'd pass down to her two eldest kids with ex-husband Ben Affleck, 19-year-old Violet and 16-year-old Seraphina. 'Be very, very incredibly judicious and wait as absolutely long as possible to add anything,' she continued. 'Don't think that you're 37 and you need to be shooting up your face.' Garner, who's also a mother to 13-year-old Samuel, has consistently urged young women to embrace getting older. 'Take care of yourself, but don't be scared. Aging is a gift,' she told People last March. And she is happy at 53. 'I don't want to be younger. I'm very grateful to be exactly this age. I'm trying to soak it up. I feel like I'm living in my power. I'm living in my wisdom. I'm living in my joy and my capacity to do and get things done. So I'm just very aware of my luck and the grace that's been shown to me.' And she wants to live long. 'I want to age,' Garner shared. 'I want to live to be 100. I don't expect to look at 100 like I look today.' The 13 Going on 30 star has previously warned fans to be cautious when it comes to injectables. 'My routine at night is to set myself up for the morning; it's all about preparation,' said the ex of Ben Affleck. 'I set up my coffee, my workout, and my workout clothes to make it easy, so I don't have an excuse. I also always wash my face. If I have a lot of makeup on from work, I'll use the Neutrogena Makeup Remover wipes. The brand has compostable ones now that I love. They're the OG. They're the best ones. But I'll still wash my face, because if I have that much makeup on, I want to give it a couple of goes.' This month Jennifer's daughter Violet has been in the news. The 19-year-old was stuck in a hotel room arguing with her mother Garner during the California wild fires. The student opened up about her family's experience of the disaster in an essay written for Yale University's student-run Yale Global Health Review in which Violent revealed her mother was 'astonished' by the destruction in the family's neighborhood of Pacific Palisades back in January. She wrote: 'I spent the January fires in Los Angeles arguing with my mother in a hotel room. She was shell-shocked, astonished at the scale of destruction in the neighborhood where she raised myself and my siblings. 'I was surprised at her surprise: as a lifelong Angelena and climate-literate member of generation Z, my question had not been whether the Palisades would burn but when. 'As I chatted with adults in the hotel where we'd gone to escape the smoke, though, I found my position to be an uncommon one: people spoke of how long rebuilding would take, how much it would cost, and how tragically odd the whole situation had been. 'The crisis was acute, a burst of bad luck. It had come from a combination of high winds and low rains ... ' Violet went on to reveal her younger brother Samuel couldn't understand how climate change could have played a part in the disaster, adding: 'What, my little brother asked, did global warming have to do with the speed of the wind?' She added: 'Hopefully, most of us understand the climate crisis better than my little brother.' The teenager is a student at Davenport College and previously spoke out in favour of using face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during a passionate speech at a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting last July. During her appearance at the meeting, Violet also made a passionate plea for long COVID to be taken seriously - asking for face masks to be worn in public buildings and for increased availability of testing and treatment. She introduced herself as Violet Affleck, Los Angeles resident, first-time voter and 18.' She went on: 'I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019. I'm OK now, but I saw first-hand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief. 'One in 10 infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological [and] cardiovascular illness that can take away people's ability to work, move, see, and even think.' She added: 'To confront the long COVID crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC light in government facilities, including jails and detention centres, and mask mandates in county medical facilities. 'We must expand the availability of high-quality free tests and treatment and, most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason. 'They do not keep us safer, they make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together. Thank you.' Violet is the eldest daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, who divorced in 2018. The former couple are also parents to younger children Seraphina and Samuel.
