PM Anwar aids cancer patient and retired soldier in Kuantan
The aid was delivered on his behalf by political secretary Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi during the Ziarah MADANI programme in Taman Balok Jaya.
Mohd Sharul Ikmal, a 27-year-old battling stage-four nasal cancer, was among the recipients.
'I was deeply moved when I heard two truly touching life stories, beginning with Sharul, 27, who, at such a young age, has to battle stage-four nasal cancer,' Ahmad Farhan said.
Sharul's condition is compounded by his responsibilities as a father to a young child.
'Even more heartbreaking, he has a young child whose father is now battling chronic health issues and requires support to survive,' he added.
The second recipient, retired soldier Pak Nik Soh, suffers from optic nerve complications that have left him nearly blind.
Ahmad Farhan highlighted Pak Nik Soh's struggles over the past three years.
'A father who once served the country now relies on his children and neighbours to continue his daily life,' he explained.
The donations were given as a gesture of compassion and solidarity.
'Above all, what is most needed are prayers, attention, and ongoing efforts so that they do not face their battles alone,' Ahmad Farhan emphasised.
He concluded with a prayer for strength and resilience for both families. - Bernama

Most Sabah, Sarawak education and health demands agreed at MA63 technical meeting

Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the meeting was crucial as preparation for the MTPMA63 Meeting No. 1/2025, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching on Sept 12. On education, he said agreements reached included state governments' involvement in the planning of education development projects, information sharing on the transfer of senior officers and allocation of funds for professional development programmes. 'As for healthcare, the meeting agreed to several demands, including increased allocations for operating and development expenditure, granting certain autonomous powers to State Health Directors, and strengthening human resources at the Health Departments of Sabah and Sarawak,' he said in a statement today. Fadillah added that other pending matters will continue to be discussed under the Joint Action Committee on Education and Health Development for Sabah and Sarawak, under the purview of the Education Ministry (MoE) and Health Ministry (MoH). In today's meeting, two briefing papers were also presented by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), which will be brought to the upcoming MTPMA63 meeting in Kuching for decision. 'Other unresolved demands will continue to be monitored by the Technical Committee under MTPMA63 as well as relevant ministerial-level working committees,' he said. Negative Perception Of Nuclear Energy Must Be Addressed
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Public misconceptions about nuclear technology, often linked to safety concerns as well as potential risks to health and the environment, must be addressed to ensure the sustainable growth of the industry in Malaysia. Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal said that fostering greater public confidence requires the collective effort of all stakeholders, including the government, industry players, academia and professional bodies. He emphasised that perceptions can be reshaped through communication strategies that are inclusive, transparent and firmly grounded in scientific evidence. 'Public perception of nuclear technology remains one of the main challenges in advancing this field in Malaysia. While the benefits of nuclear technology are well-documented, widespread concerns over safety and radiation risks continue to persist among the public,' he said. He said this in his speech when officiating the 28th Radiation Protection Conference and Workshop 2025 here today. He said the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), through the Malaysian Nuclear Agency and the Department of Atomic Energy Department (Atom Malaysia), is actively carrying out awareness and education initiatives, as well as fostering strategic collaborations and participation in both national and international academic forums. 'With a holistic approach and effective communication, I am confident that the public will come to accept nuclear technology as a strategic national asset, provided it is managed ethically and with the highest safety standards,' he said. Mohammad Yusof added that in today's era of advanced technology, the use of radiation sources is inevitable, with applications spanning the medical, agricultural, industrial, research and national security sectors. 'Radiation protection is the key priority in ensuring that every application of nuclear technology is safely regulated and does not pose risks to human health or the environment. As the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stressed, protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation is a shared responsibility,' he said. On the conference, he noted that Malaysia is strengthening its role in advancing the regional radiation technology safety agenda through the organisation of the event, themed 'Global Energy Security Through Radiation Safety: Balancing Growth and Protection' - emphasising that radiation safety serves as the foundation for ensuring global energy sustainability and resilience.
