Meet Magnum: Texas DPS adds new K-9 to Executive Protection Bureau

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has a new service member.
K-9 Magnum, a one-year-old Belgian Malinois, is a newly certified member of the department's Executive Protection Bureau (EPB), which was originally known as the Governor's Protection Detail.
'Magnum came to DPS from Poland and is trained to detect threats, identify explosives and enhance security operations,' DPS said.
The new K-9 officer will help safeguard state officials and dignitaries as part of EPB.
'Adding Magnum to the Executive Protection Bureau ensures we continue to provide the highest level of security for Texas leaders,' said DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin. 'This highly trained K-9 is an invaluable asset, solidifying both detection and deterrence capabilities in our security operations.'
According to the department, Magnum replaces K-9 Jake, who retired in November.

'Magnum completed a rigorous 12-week training program in explosive identification and will now be stationed with his handler in the Capitol region,' DPS said.
In total, DPS' K-9 Unit, consisting of 88 personnel, including 76 handlers comprised of 52 narcotic detection, 10 explosive detection and 14 tracking canines.
'The teams include several German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Labrador Retrievers and a Vizsla,' DPS said.

Source: Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram Details: The assault began at 19:30 on 31 May 2025, involving: 472 Shahed-type attack drones and decoy drones, launched from Millerovo, Shatalovo, Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia; Three Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Kursk and Voronezh oblasts, Russia; Four Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from air and ground. The primary targets were Kharkiv, Sumy, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. Former Archer County pastor arrested on child grooming charges

ARCHER COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — A former Archer County pastor was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety for alleged child grooming. According to DPS Sgt. Juan Gutierrez, Texas Rangers served a warrant and arrested 31-year-old Nathan Patrick Roach Friday, May 30, 2025, for child grooming, a third-degree felony. He was then booked into the Archer County jail. According to a release, Rangers were called on March 18th to assist the Holliday Police Department with the allegation that Roach was involved in a sexual relationship with a child under the age of 18.
