Prices of kitchen items witness mixed trend
The survey noted the price of live chicken has increased at Rs405/kg from Rs395/kg, showing an increase of Rs10/kg in the open market. Price of farm eggs dropped as available at Rs240/kg against price of Rs260/dozen in the retail market.
Butchers have sharpened their knives as they are openly violating the official price list and charged consumers with self-imposed rates. Cow meat was available at Rs1100/kg against the fixed price by local administration at Rs800-900/kg while boneless meat is being sold at Rs1300/kg in the open market. Price of mutton beef touched at Rs2500/kg in the open market.
A nominal increase was also witnessed in prices of various varieties and brands of cooking oil/ghee in the open market, the survey said.
One kilogram of sugar was available at Rs145/kg against the price Rs165/kg, showing decrease of Rs20/kg in the retail market.
Prices of tomato have dropped as available at Rs50 and 60 and Rs70/kg against the price of Rs100/kg in the open market, according to the survey.
Similarly, the price of onion has also plunged as being sold at Rs70-80/kg against the price of Rs100/kg in the previous week while some vendors and dealers charge a self-imposed price in the retail market. Ginger and garlic remained unchanged as being available at Rs800/kg and Rs400 and Rs600/kg respectively. Green chilli was being sold at Rs120/kg.
Prices of other veggie prices remained high in the open market. Peas was being sold at Rs100/120/kg against the price of Rs150/kg, capsicum at Rs100/kg, ladyfinger Rs80/kg, curry Rs70/kg and Kachalu Rs150-200/kg, turnip at Rs120/kg Eggplant (bringle) Rs100/kg, Zucchini (tori) Rs100/kg, Tinda Rs100/kg, lemon was being sold at Rs200/kg. Arvi was available at Rs100-120/kg, cabbage at Rs100/kg, red coloured potatoes available at Rs70/kg while white coloured potatoes are sold at Rs50/kg in the retail market.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Uraan Fellowship Programme 2025, said that the exceptional talent of youth from Gilgit-Baltistan to Gwadar will be linked with the process of national development, said a press release. The Minister for Planning said that peace, political stability, continuity of policies, reforms and commitment to modernization are the key pillars of development. Unfortunately, due to political vendettas, the decision-making process has been affected. He stated that through CPEC, $25 billion of investment came into the country, load-shedding was controlled, and law and order was restored. Professor Iqbal urged the youth to protect themselves from hatred and prejudiced attitudes and to play a positive role in the country's development. He said that in the past year, inflation was brought under control and the Pakistan Stock Exchange crossed the 140,000 points mark — a testament to economic improvement. Pakistan is on the path to a new phase of progress, and just as it proved its defensive superiority over India, it will also surpass it in the economic field. He said that the youth must play a key role in turning the dream of making Pakistan a $3 trillion economy by 2047 into reality. Moreover, students from 131 universities across the country will work for seven days with the Ministry of Planning, where they will gain important insights into the country's economic affairs and development projects. Tirah, Khyber incident: KP Cabinet approves special compensation for victims
PESHAWAR: Under the PDMA Civilian Victims Compensation Regulations 2019, the provincial cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved a special compensation of Rs10 million for each deceased person and Rs2.5 million for each injured person, to be given to the legal heirs and the injured from the Tirah, Khyber incident. The cabinet also approved the establishment of a Temporary Displaced Persons (TDPs) camp in the Bajaur Sports Complex and also sanctioned immediate funds for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). According to details, the 36th meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. Cabinet members, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, and Administrative Secretaries attended the meeting. Among the key decisions, the cabinet approved the creation of 36 new posts of field assistant in BPS-9 for the Directorate General Agriculture Extension, a move aimed at strengthening agricultural support services across the province. Cabinet gave its consent for the purchase of land for the Institute of Management Sciences (IM Sciences), a step that will facilitate the expansion and growth of the institution. It also approved creation of new posts in the Directorate of Works & Implementation of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department; appointment as Independent Members of Provincial Public Safety Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a period of four years. To enhance tourism infrastructure, a significant increase was approved for the ADP scheme for the 'construction of access roads to tourist areas in Hazara Division.' The project's cost has been revised from Rs3,500 million to Rs4,278.276 million. The Cabinet green lit the hiring of necessary staff for the Directorate of Anti-Corruption Establishment Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Market Based Salary (MBS) Policy 2025. This measure is designed to bolster the directorate's capacity to combat corruption effectively. It also granted approval for the notification of Lower Tanawal Beer Valley as a Community Managed Game Reserve, which will help protect local wildlife and promote sustainable management practices. Bahria Town auction: SC bench declines to hear case
ISLAMABAD: A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, on Wednesday, declined to hear the case of auction of Bahria Town's properties. The chief justice sent the case back to a bench, which had previously heard the case. 'It would be appropriated for the old bench to hear this case,' CJP Afridi said. Farooq H Naek, representing Bahria Town, stated he has no objection if the matter is sent back to the old bench. He; however, told that detailed verdict of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has been announced, adding that he would submit additional objections on the detailed IHC verdict related to business tycoon Malik Riaz, who established the Bahria Town empire in Pakistan. A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb on August 8, 2025, had turned down M/s Bahria Town (Private) Limited plea to halt the auction of its properties, but issued notices to the respondents. Justice Naeem questioned what the National Accountability Ordinance says about plea bargain. He noted that if an accused challenges the plea bargain process then it becomes inoperative, adding in the instant matter the accused has challenged the plea bargain, and the applications against them are pending, but the properties are being auctioned. Justice Naeem observed that instead of main petition only the Civil Miscellaneous Applications (CMAs) were fixed for hearing today (Friday), adding how come they can hear the CMAs without hearing the main petition. Naek told that he came to know about this case late at night, adding still the case is not issued on the cause list.
