Investigation underway into fire that gutted Ajax house
A large fire tore through a home in Ajax overnight, prompting a joint investigation by Durham Regional Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal.
The incident happened in the area of Salem Road and Taunton Road East shortly after 11 p.m. Friday night. Residents in the area told CP24 the flames were intense and that they could 'smell gas' as fire crews worked to contain the blaze.
Drone footage obtained by CP24 appears to show a roof collapse, though police have not confirmed the extent of the structural damage.

The cause of the fire also remains unknown and police have not yet commented on the blaze.
There is no word yet on any injuries. Family members on scene said they have not been able to confirm whether their loved ones made it out safely.
The investigation is ongoing.

6 hurt, 1 person charged after head-on collision near Arthur
Six people were injured in a head-on collision near Arthur Monday evening. Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 109 between Sideroad 17 and Charles Street W. just after 7 p.m. Wellington OPP says a van with four people inside it collided with a truck that had two people inside. One of the passengers of the van was airlifted to a trauma centre where police say they're being treated for "non-life-threatening, yet life-altering injuries." The other three people in the van had minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The two people in the truck were taken to hospital and had minor injuries. Wellington Road 109 was closed for several hours for the investigation. A 36-year-old Brampton man has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving causing bodily harm and failure to share half the roadway for a meeting vehicle. He will appear in a Guelph courtroom at a later date. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has information, such as dashcam footage, that could help investigators to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
