MIAMI (AP) — The woeful Colorado Rockies have ended their ignominious, record-setting MLB streak of 22 consecutive series losses, which dated to last season.
A nervy 3-2 victory at Miami on Tuesday night, highlighted by Hunter Goodman's third home run in two games, gave Colorado two straight victories over the Marlins to ensure the Rockies would leave town with their first series victory since taking two of three games from Arizona in Denver in mid-September.

'That was big-time for the boys, to get that first series win,' Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said. 'Who would've known it wouldn't come until June. But the time is now. I'm happy for them."
Colorado, a major league-worst 11-50, won consecutive games for just the second time this year after beating Atlanta on April 30 and San Francisco the next day. They go for a series sweep against the Marlins on Wednesday.
Goodman's teammates seemed unsurprised by his pivotal role in securing the Rockies' first series win of the season.
"He's just raking, and when he's hot, he's one of the best hitters in the game," centerfielder Brenton Doyle told Rockies.tv. 'I hope he keeps it up. He's one of my good buddies and that was awesome.'

Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen earned his third save, but only after Heriberto Hernandez drove his 1-1 pitch about 400 feet to left-center, where Doyle made a game-ending, running catch at the wall.
'I'm not going to lie; off the bat, I thought that was a homer,' Schaeffer said. 'But it wasn't, so it's all good. It's the best having (Doyle) in center field.'
Excluding one-game series, the Rockies are the fourth team since MLB expansion in 1961 to go 18 series before recording their first series win in a season. The 1987 Padres, 1969 Montreal Expos and 1962 Washington Senators all won their first series of those seasons in their 19th series.
Before the Rockies arrived in Miami, they'd gone 3-28 on the road — the worst road mark at that point of season in more than a century — and had not won back-to-back road games since last Sept. 5-6.
'It's nice to get a couple wins. It's good to get that first series win,' Schaffer said. 'Now we just move forward.'

Michaels completes acquisition of Joann's intellectual property and fan-favorite labels
NEW YORK (AP) — Craft labels from the now-shuttered fabrics seller Joann are making their way to a new home: Michaels. The Michaels Companies announced on Thursday that it had completed its purchase of Joann's intellectual property and private label brands — in an acquisition that arrives as the Texas-based arts and crafting chain works to expand its own fabric, sewing and yarn offerings. 'We're honored to have the opportunity to welcome JOANN customers into our creative community and are committed to delivering the selection, value, and inspiration they are looking for at Michaels,' Michaels CEO David Boone said in a statement. The deal, he added, allows the company to better 'respond to rising demand' among both new and existing customers. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The Associated Press reached out to Michaels for further information on Friday. With roots dating back to a single Ohio storefront in 1943, Joann had grown into a destination for generations of sewers, quilters, knitters and lovers of other crafts for more than 80 years. But more recently, operational challenges continued to pile up — with the retailer pointing to sluggish consumer demand, inventory shortages and rising competition. Joann announced it would be going out of business back in February, just one month after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time within a year. At the time, the company said financial services company GA Group, together with Joann's term lenders, had been selected as the winning bidder to 'acquire substantially all of Joann's assets' and conduct going-out-of-business sales at all store locations. Michaels on Thursday said that its purchase of Joann's IP and private brands included the acquisition of 'Big Twist' yarns, which had become a staple in Joann stores over the years. Those 'Big Twist' labels are now being developed as part of Michaels' portfolio — and will be available in-stores and online later this year, the company said. In the meantime, Michaels has also dedicated a landing page to welcome former Joann customers online. And as part of its overall expansion into fabrics, Michaels said on Thursday that its adding more than 600 new products from new and existing brands — including quilting supplies and fabrics, specialty threads, sewing machines and more. Michaels, founded in 1973, currently operates 1,300 stores across 49 U.S. states and Canada. Its parent company also owns Artistree, a framing merchandise manufacturer.

Spain draws Sweden in semifinals of Women's Nations League. Germany gets France
NYON, Switzerland (AP) — World champion Spain will continue its defense of the UEFA Women's Nations League title against Sweden in the semifinals after the draw was made on Friday. Spain will host the first leg on Oct. 24 and the return is four days later in Sweden. Germany hosts France first in the other semifinal played on the same dates. France was beaten by Spain 2-0 in Seville in the inaugural final last year. The 2025 final is scheduled over two legs, on Nov. 28 and Dec. 2. All four teams advanced to the finals stage by finishing atop groups that started in February and finished this week — effectively as warmups for the Women's European Championship. Only France won six straight games. First, all four head to the 16-team Euro 2025 that starts on July 2 in Switzerland. Germany and Sweden are in the same Euros group. France is in a tough group with the past two European champions, England and the Netherlands.
