But when in Singapore, Taiwanese actress Cheryl Yang ate as Singaporeans did.

In an Instagram Reel posted on May 1, the 47-year-old showcased her gastronomic journey while in the country.
First up was Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, followed by a classic ice-cream sandwich from a cart along Orchard Road.
"This is cake and this is chocolate (chip) ice cream. I've never had this before, let's try," she declared in the video.
At another restaurant, Cheryl ate the classic chilli crab, which she found to be "very spicy". She had it with rice before soaking up the gravy with mantou.
Cheryl also had a burger and milkshake from Shake Shack at what appeared to be Jewel Changi Airport.
She said that it was her favourite burger brand from when she visited the US, and that she liked it despite not enjoying Western food much.

Cheryl was in Singapore for a Cartier event in April, which was also attended by South Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok, Chinese actor Bai Jingting and British actress Gemma Chan.

Cassandra Low, who is in her 30s, was identified in a court judgment published by the New Taipei District Court on June 5. She was found guilty of endangering the personal safety of Tsao, stalking and harassing her and also publicly insulting the singer. According to the judgment, Low was said to have been an admirer of Tsao, and they had been exchanging personal e-mails and messages over Facebook and Instagram since November 2023. But after Tsao blocked Low on the social media platforms, she was displeased and posted verbal threats and insults targeting the Taiwanese singer, her family and her agent. In one post on her Facebook account, Low wrote: 'I can be very aggressive. The more stubborn she is... don't blame me for whatever I do to her parents.' In another, she wrote: 'Blocking me, see how I slowly let her agent die.' Low's repeated threats caused Tsao and her agent to leave their homes in New Taipei City. Her extreme behaviour came to a head in February 2025, when she followed Tsao to the Banqiao high-speed rail station after learning her idol was planning to take the train. Low successively held on to Tsao's luggage and her phone in a bid to force the singer to unblock her on social media before she was taken away by local police to assist with investigations. In a video recorded by Tsao during the February incident, Low can be seen blocking the singer's path until she agreed to a reconciliation. For her crimes, Low was sentenced to a total of six months in prison, or a commuted fine of NT$1,000 (S$43) for each day of her jail term . The court had heard that Low is a Singaporean and earned a salary that was more than double that of someone working in Taiwan, meaning that a fine alone may not provide the intended corrective impact or reflect the severity of her crimes. Low will also be deported from Taiwan after serving her sentence or paying her fine. On June 11, Tsao expressed relief at the judgment. 'This is the most comforting piece of news I have received recently,' she wrote on Instagram and Facebook, thanking those around her and her lawyer for their companionship and help. Syria requires women to wear burkinis on public beaches
DAMASCUS - Syria's Islamist-led government has decreed that women should wear burkinis or other swimwear that covers the body at public beaches and swimming pools, while permitting Western-style beachwear at private clubs and luxury hotels. The tourism ministry decision issued this week marks the first time the Damascus authorities have issued guidelines related to what women can wear since Bashar al-Assad was toppled in December. During the Assad family's iron-fisted rule of Syria, which was shaped by a secular Arab nationalist ideology, the state imposed no such restrictions, though people often dressed modestly at public beaches, reflecting conservative norms. The new requirements were set out in a wider decree dated June 9 and which included public safety guidelines for beaches and swimming pools ahead of the summer, such as not spending too long in the sun and avoiding jellyfish. It said that beachgoers and visitors to public pools should wear "appropriate swimwear that respects public decency and the feelings of different segments of society", requiring "more modest swimsuits" and specifying "the burkini or swimming clothes that cover the body more". Women should wear a cover or a loose robe over their swimwear when moving between the beach and other areas, it said. Men should wear a shirt when not swimming, and are not allowed to appear bare-chested "in the public areas outside the swimming areas - hotel lobbies or ... restaurants", it said. The decree added that "in public areas outside the beaches and swimming pools", it was preferable to wear loose clothing that covers the shoulders and knees and to avoid transparent or very tight clothing. It offered an exception for hotels classed as four stars or above, and for private beaches, pools and clubs, saying "normal Western swimwear" was generally permitted, "with adherence to public morals and within the limits of public taste". Since Sunni Islamist-led rebels overthrew Assad, fliers have appeared urging women to cover up, but the government has issued no directives ordering them to observe conservative dress codes. A temporary constitution passed earlier this year strengthened the language on the role of sharia (Islamic law) in Syria. Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who led an al Qaeda group before cutting ties with the jihadist network, has sidestepped interviewers' questions on whether he thought Syria should apply sharia, saying this was for experts to decide.
