Jennifer Lopez's Surprise Sundance Performance Shows Where She Is at in the Healing Process of Her Ben Affleck Breakup

Yahoo26-01-2025
Let's be real, Jennifer Lopez knows how to command a moment, whether it's on the big screen, a red carpet, or, as Park City partygoers learned this weekend, behind a DJ booth. So when Lopez gave a surprise performance at Tao for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, you know it wasn't just an 'out of the blue' type of decision. Her impromptu choice? The 2002 hit 'All I Have,' which, coincidentally (or not), is a breakup anthem that cuts deeper given her recent split from Ben Affleck.
For those who don't recall the ballad, 'All I Have' is a duet with LL Cool J about navigating life post-breakup. At the time, Dave Meyers, the music video director, told MTV News of the video: 'They keep seeing visions of each other, and you get the feeling that they are still very much in love, yet they don't get back together because they feel that this is the best thing for them. It will have a very happy winter wonderland-type feel, but a sad vibe.' With Lopez having emphasized a desire for her and Affleck's families to stay close following the breakup — namely for the holidays — the choice feels somewhat pointed. (Watch the performance HERE.)

Of course, Lopez isn't exactly mired in heartbreak. The multi-hyphenate has been linked to Kevin Costner since last December, and even when Lopez and Affleck were still together, Affleck joked about his then-wife's fondness for the Costner-led series Yellowstone.
Still, Lopez's next steps feel a bit complex. She's reportedly eyeing a $20 million mansion in Brentwood, an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood bordering the Pacific Palisades neighborhood recently devastated by the wildfires — and where Affleck's ex Jennifer Garner and their three children live.
And as for that performance? Whether Lopez meant to craft a double entendre-filled breakup declaration or simply felt like revisiting a classic, one thing's for sure — J.Lo knows how to keep us talking.Best of SheKnows

‘Lioness' & ‘The Madison' Poised For Renewals As New Paramount Brass Praise Taylor Sheridan & He Opens New Texas Campus With 101 Studios

Taylor Sheridan's name came up a lot at the Los Angeles press event this week with the new Paramount leadership as virtually every top executive hailed the prolific creator's business as a top TV asset of the combined Skydance-Paramount Global company. 'On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe,' Paramount's Chair of Direct-to-Consumer Cindy Holland said. More from Deadline International Insider: Paramount's Week One; Cillian On 'Steve'; Channel 4 Chuckles David Ellison's Paramount Takes Gloves Off In 'Top Gun: Maverick' Script Suit As Third Flyboy Flick On Deck Duffer Brothers In Talks With Paramount For Massive Deal - The Dish Paramount CEO David Ellison called Sheridan 'a singular genius with a perfect track record.' Every Taylor Sheridan show to date has performed well and, outside of those designed as limited series, they have gone to multiple seasons, with all except mothership Yellowstone still ongoing. That will continue with new seasons for Yellowstone spinoff The Madison and Special Ops: Lioness, sources tell Deadline. It would be an early Season 2 renewal for The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, ahead of its series debut on Paramount+, and a long-awaited Season 3 pickup for Lioness. Its star Zoe Saldaña already had a deal in place spanning three seasons but co-star Nicole Kidman had to make a new one for Season 3, which was a contributing factor to the delay, sources said. The new seasons will film at the new 450,000 sf production campus in Fort Worth Texas' 27,000-acre AllianceTexas development. It was recently launched as a partnership between SGS Studios, Sheridan's company with 101 Studios CEO David Glasser; Paramount Television and Hillwood, a Perot Company. Filming at the campus — the largest operating studio facility in Texas — began in March 2025 on the upcoming second season Sheridan's drama Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton. Glasser, whose 101 Studios co-produces all Sheridan series alongside Paramount TV Studios, revealed that Landman Season 2 is one of four shows that will shoot in Fort Worth this year, with The Madison Season 2 slated to begin filming in September, followed by Lioness Season 3 in October. Sheridan's current deal with Paramount goes to 2028. Ellison confirmed to Deadline that the company would be happy to extend it. 'We can just make this his home for as long as he wants to tell stories,' he said on stage earlier. The Madison is billed as a heartfelt study of grief and human connection, following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana. Sheridan executive produces with Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Christina Voros, Michael Friedman, Pfeiffer and Keith Cox. Lioness is inspired by an actual U.S. military program that follows the life of Joe (Saldaña) while she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA's spear in the war on terror. The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, Burkle, Yari, Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Cox. Filipino Filmmaker Pedring Lopez Set To Direct UK-Set Horror ‘The Ascendants'

EXCLUSIVE: Filipino filmmaker Pedring Lopez (Netflix's Maria, Nilalang) is set to direct The Ascendants, a psychological horror feature from Silent D Pictures. The film will begin production in early 2026 in the UK, and stars Australian actors Cristian Lavin and John Jarratt and US-born Indonesian actress Chelsea Islan. Additional casting for The Ascendants will be announced in the coming weeks. The film follows a journalist who returns to her childhood mining town in search of her missing brother — only to uncover a cult, sacred rites, and a blood-soaked ancestral legacy. Lopez is currently shooting his English-language debut feature, Shadow Transit, which stars UK-based singer-songwriter Qymira and Indonesian actor Yoshi Sudarso. Principal photography is taking place in Manila, with several scenes shot in Hong Kong. The film will be presented to buyers at the American Film Market. After The Ascendants, Lopez will direct and line produce action-horror Blood Passage, produced by GFM Film Sales and Evolution Pictures (UK), VeryTay Media (Singapore), Shaw Organisation (Singapore) and BlackOps Studios Asia (Philippines). Blood Passage will be shot entirely in the Philippines, primarily on the remote islands of Camarines Sur. Lopez was also showrunner and director of Filipino prison crime series Sellblock, executive produced and distributed globally by LA-based Blue Fox Entertainment. 'As a Filipino filmmaker making my crossover into international cinema, I've always been drawn to stories that wrestle with faith, trauma, and inherited myth,' said Lopez. 'With The Ascendants, I'm bringing my Southeast Asian roots and cinematic language to a Western storyworld — one grounded in atmosphere, tension, and emotional truth. This is the kind of film that lets me explore universal fears through a very personal lens.'Lavin added: 'Pedring brings a rare mix of emotional insight and genre precision. He knows how to shape horror through performance, atmosphere, and meaning — not just effects.' Djonny Chen, founder of Silent D Pictures, said: 'We're thrilled to collaborate with Pedring. His work consistently blends bold vision with grounded humanity. The Ascendants is the kind of project that demands that — and he's the right voice to deliver it.' Established Colorado film festivals enthusiastic to share spotlight with Sundance

The buzz surrounding the Sundance Film Festival's move to Boulder in 2027 is creating a wave of excitement. It's even garnered enthusiasm from Colorado's own established film festivals. The prevailing sentiment is that a rising tide lifts all boat. Local festival organizers see Sundance's arrival as a golden opportunity for the state's entire film industry. For years, Colorado has been a stunning backdrop for films, but not a major player in the industry due to a lack of financial incentives. With new tax incentives, additional funding from the state and the international spotlight that Sundance brings, local film communities are ready to take advantage of the time in the spotlight as well. Organizers with Breckenridge Film Festival -- celebrating its 45th year -- say the arts event is poised to capitalize on the new energy. "I just see it as an opportunity," said Cait McCluskey, the festival's programming and operations director said. "I think the spotlight is really on us right now. And, also, Sundance has been really open to some collaborations. So I think, for a smaller festival like us, it can really only go well." Set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, the Breckenridge Film Festival -- running from Sept. 18 to 21 -- serves as a community builder alongside its film screenings, McCluskey says. "The mountains can be a really isolating place, and a spot even like a movie theater, where you sit together in the dark, can be a really community building activity," McCluskey explained. McCluskey expressed that these festivals are for everyone, not just the Hollywood elite. "I think there's this misconception that film festivals are only for the film industry elite or only for movie stars," McCluskey said. "But the truth is that a lot of them out there, especially the smaller ones, are for everyday people." More information is available at Breckenridge Film Festival's website. Just a week later, Crested Butte Film Festival will celebrate its 15th year from Sept. 24 to 28. Scott Robson, the executive director for the film festival, highlighted the festival's role in fostering dialogue. "I think inspiring conversation in small communities is particularly important," Robson said. In a county with only one public movie theater, Robson said the festival brings around 80 films from 400 submissions to the community over five days. More information can be found at Crested Butte Film Festival's website. The optimism is fueled by more than proximity to Sundance. Donald Zuckerman, Colorado's film commissioner, points to a new more competitive tax credit for film production. "We had a 10% incentive ... which was ridiculously low," noted Zuckerman, comparing neighboring state incentives. Colorado now offers a 20% refundable tax credit. For the local film festivals, a new tax credit provides $500,000 annually for the next decade to support film festivals across the state -- a significant jump from the previous $40,000 to $50,000 a year. Zuckerman believes the increased funding will help smaller festivals grow faster, benefiting local economies and filmmakers. While leaf peeping is always a draw in the fall, mountain towns such as Breck and Crested Butte are hoping people consider their other dazzling displays on the silver screen. "Take a look at Pueblo. They had their second year this year, and they went all out, and they're planning on building it," said Zuckerman, highlighting the growth of film culture in other Colorado communities.
