Due to intense pain and irritation, the dog went berserk and came out of the cover, making it vulnerable to more stings, the officials said.The dog was stung around 200 times and fell unconscious. She was evacuated from the spot and emergency treatment was given to her by the handlers, the officials said.However, Rolo succumbed to the pain on the way to a medical facility on April 27 and was declared brought dead by the veterinarians of the force.The dog was deployed for anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh in April last year after being trained at the CRPF canine training centre at Taralu near Bengaluru in Karnataka.

Odisha: Man arrested for raping girl for over 8 months
Agency: Berhampur (Odisha), Aug 20 (PTI) Odisha Police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Surat city in Gujarat for allegedly raping a girl from Berhampur several times over the last eight months, police said on Wednesday. The accused, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district, was arrested by a team of Berhampur Town police station on Sunday, Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M said. The accused was an autorickshaw driver in Surat. He was produced before a court in Surat and then brought to Odisha on transit remand, following which he was produced before a court here on Tuesday night, he said. According to the police, the girl went to Surat alone in November last year after a misunderstanding with her family members. She met the accused at Surat railway station. As the victim was searching for a job there, the accused enticed her for a job and took her to his house and allegedly repeatedly raped her, another police officer said. She was one of the 55 women and children rescued by the police under the ongoing 'Operation Anweshan' launched by Odisha Police to rescue the missing and kidnapped children and women. The drive started on Monday and will continue for a week. After being rescued, the 17-year-old victim was lodged in a rescue centre here, he said. 'In the last two days till Tuesday, we have rescued around 44 victims which included 32 women and 12 children," said Ganjam Superintendent of Police Subhendu Patra. The Berhampur SP said they have rescued around 10 children and women during the period. Notably, Ganjam district has two police districts — Ganjam and Berhampur. Around 50 Delhi schools receive fresh bomb threats, declared hoax
Agency: Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 20 (PTI) Around 50 schools in the national capital received bomb threats on Wednesday through e-mail, which were later declared 'hoax', officials said. Police sources said that around 50 schools received bomb threats via e-mail, which were from the same group named 'Terrorizers 111' that had sent the mail on Monday. In the mail, which was sent to schools on Tuesday night, the group demanded 2,000 Dollars in cryptocurrency. 'We are the Terrorizers 111 group. We have planted explosives inside your building, and others across the city. Devices include high-yield C4 bombs and timed charges placed in classrooms, auditoriums, staff rooms, and school buses, designed to cause maximum casualties. We have breached your IT systems, extracted student and staff data, and compromised all security cameras," the threatening mail read. The mail also demanded the transfer of money to an Ethereum address, or within 48 hours, the bombs would be detonated. 'Evacuate all schools and suspend operations immediately to avoid loss of life. Any attempt to contact authorities will trigger immediate detonation and public release of your sensitive data. Terrorizers 111 Group does not forgive or forget. Payment is your only option to prevent disaster. Act now," the mail said further. The DAV Public School, Faith Academy, Doon Public School, Sarvodhaya Vidyalaya, Rahul Model School, Maxfort School in Dwarka, SKV in Malviya Nagar, and the Andhra School in Prasad Nagar were among the institutions that received the bomb threat. According to the Delhi Fire Services, information regarding bomb threats at two schools — SKV in Malviya Nagar and Andhra School in Prasad Nagar — was received at 7.40 am and 7.42 am, respectively. Police teams, along with fire personnel and bomb disposal squads, rushed to the premises immediately, officials said. The fresh threat came just two days after 32 schools across the city received similar threats on August 18, which later turned out to be hoaxes. Haryana intensifies campaign against drug trafficking, substance abuse
Agency: Chandigarh, Aug 20 (PTI) Haryana has intensified its campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse through a comprehensive strategy combining strict enforcement, widespread awareness programmes and enhanced rehabilitation measures. This coordinated approach has delivered 'remarkable results" in 2025, as highlighted during the 11th State Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting which was chaired by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi here on Wednesday, an official statement said. The chief secretary reaffirmed the government's determination to achieve the ambitious goal of a completely drug-free Haryana through a holistic three-pronged approach that not only tackles the symptoms of drug abuse but also addresses its root causes while strengthening systems of recovery and reintegration. Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), said the state's enforcement machinery has delivered exceptional results in the first seven months of 2025. Authorities registered 2,161 FIRs compared to 2,022 during the same period last year, while 3,629 accused persons were arrested, representing a 35 per cent increase over 2024. Strengthened interstate coordination led to 293 interstate arrests in commercial quantity cases, marking a major step in dismantling cross-border trafficking networks, Misra said. The state also struck hard at the financial backbone of drug offenders, with property attachments rising sharply from Rs 23.41 lakh in 2024 to Rs 1.31 crore in 2025, she said. Preventive policing strategies also proved highly effective, with preventive detentions jumping from 8 to 42 cases, the additional chief secretary said. She also called for joint raids with neighbouring districts to dismantle the supply chain of drugs being transported into Haryana by the smugglers. Misra also directed 'formation of a smaller task force at the HoD level which shall hold regular meetings to resolve pending issues". She further said that Haryana's massive focus on awareness and youth engagement has been equally noteworthy. Within seven months, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau conducted 698 anti-drug awareness programmes across the state, successfully reaching more than 1.15 lakh participants from diverse communities. Youth engagement through sports has emerged as a cornerstone of the campaign, with the 'drug-free village/ward" programme covering 4,270 villages and engaging nearly 2.8 lakh young people in constructive sporting activities. These efforts have been reinforced by door-to-door survey teams deployed to conduct regular audits and ensure active grassroots participation in anti-drug initiatives, the statement said. The meeting also reviewed several systemic reforms and strategic initiatives forming the backbone of the anti-drug campaign. These included the rollout of centralized pharmaceutical supply chain monitoring systems to prevent misuse of prescription medicines, systematic inspection of de-addiction centres in all districts to ensure compliance with prescribed standards, and significant upgrades in forensic laboratories with advanced equipment for synthetic drug detection. The state has also expanded the use of national databases such as NATGRID and MANAS, supported by regular training programmes for officials, while intensifying surveillance of closed chemical factories to prevent their illegal reactivation for drug production, Misra said. Educational institutions have also been assigned a critical role in sustaining awareness. The School Education Department has been directed to strengthen parental involvement in 'Prahari Clubs', while the Higher Education Department continues to organize monthly awareness drives in colleges across Haryana. These initiatives ensure that anti-drug messaging reaches young people consistently, meaningfully, and with strong community participation, she said. Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Sudhir Rajpal, DGP, Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, O P Singh, and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
