Case of five men accused of murdering Aserie Ndlovu, partner postponed
'Four of the accused, Father Samuel Mogowe, Lucky Sikhosana, David Madisha and Sello Skhalo Uoane, previously abandoned their bail applications. They have now been joined by Thabang Isaac Hlophe, who is the fifth accused in the matter,' National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Monica Nyuswa said.
All five are facing two counts of kidnapping and two counts of murder. The accused were arrested separately during an intelligence-driven operation by the police.
'Today's court appearance was for the formal joinder of Hlophe to the matter and a possible bail application on his behalf. However, the application did not proceed as Hlophe opted to appoint a private attorney to represent him,' Nyuswa said.
Ndlovu and Mdluli were last seen on February 18 and were reported missing shortly thereafter. Their remains were discovered three months later in Rust de Winter, along the Limpopo-Gauteng border.
DNA analysis confirmed the identities of the deceased. The accused have all been remanded.
The case was postponed until July 4 to allow Hlophe to secure legal representation.

A KwaZulu-Natal man who is alleged to have carried out a hit on Passenger Rail Agency (Prasa) regional manager Jacob Khoaele on January 22 made a brief appearance in the Durban magistrate's court on Monday. Netshiunda said the murder investigation was handed to provincial serious and violent crime, murder and robbery detectives who cracked the case and arrested twins Vukani and Vukile Mchunu aged 35 on July 27. Investigations also pointed to Sandile Sakhile Ngcobo, 38, as the alleged mastermind behind the killing. Ngcobo made his first appearance on August 4 and is also an accused in a triple murder and attempted murder case in which he allegedly shot dead three people accused of murder in Msinsini in 2021. 'The three had just appeared in court when they were shot dead in a vehicle in Hibberdene on June 27 2024. A passer-by also sustained a gunshot wound during the incident,' said Netshiunda. Smiling metro cop charged with wife's murder angers victim's daughter as she opposes bail
Bail proceedings for eThekwini metro police officer Qiniso Sishi, who is charged with fatally stabbing his wife Thandokuhle Mkhize, failed to get under way in the Durban magistrate's court on Monday. Sishi's lawyer Musawenkosi Mkhize told the court, packed with family, friends and political party representatives, he was not able to fully consult his client at the Westville correctional facility. Thandokuhle Mkhize, a lawyer, was stabbed multiple times in the early hours of July 28 at their home in Woodlands, south of Durban. 'I had an appointment on Friday to consult my client at Westville and when I got to the prison I was made to wait for two-and-a-half hours,' said Musawenkosi Mkhize. During the wait he was informed Sishi was in the medical wing of the prison where he was being treated for injuries sustained during the incident on July 28. 'After some time I was told he could not be located — no-one knew where he was. This [is the] reason the defence is not in a position to continue with the bail application. I require ample time to take instructions, otherwise I would not be doing justice with this bail [application].' When magistrate Ashwin Singh adjourned the matter, Sishi was all smiles, much to the chagrin of Thandokuhle Mkhize's daughter Aphiwe Mkhize, who shouted to him ' sengathi ungafela phakathi ' (may you rot in jail).

Police crack 2023 ritual murder after healer allegedly found in possession of the deceased's organs
A traditional healer is expected to appear in the Garankuwa magistrate's court on Monday in connection with the 2023 murder of 20-year-old Gontse Makhubela. The 38-year-old man from Mozambique was arrested in Winterveldt on Thursday after he was allegedly found in possession of Makhubela's organs. Her mutilated, partly burnt and badly decomposed body was found at a refuse dumping site in Elandskraal, Brits, on November 23 2023. He is the third suspect to be arrested in the case after the earlier arrests of two other men. Samuel Mlambo, 38, and Serame Moroke, 29, were arrested last Wednesday. Their case was postponed to August 19 for a bail application after their appearance in court on Friday. In addition to murder, the duo are charged with kidnapping, violation and/or defiling of a corpse and contravention of the Immigration Act. According to police, Mlambo and Moroke were linked to the murder after officers recovered the deceased's phone. Police spokesperson Brig Sabata Mokgwabone said it is believed the victim was tricked by Moroke after Mlambo tasked him to find a young woman fitting a particular profile to be murdered so Mlambo could have her organs for muti. He had allegedly consulted the traditional healer. Mokgwabone said investigations are continuing, with the possibility of more arrests. TimesLIVE
