‘Terror chose Dharma, India chose Karma': Rajnath Singh on Pahalgam terror attack, Op Sindoor
In a powerful message, defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that while the terrorists in Pahalgam targeted civilians on April 22 based on their religion, India hit back at the terrorists on the basis of their 'karm' (deeds).
"Terrorists killed people in Pahalgam asking their religion; we didn't ask their 'dharm' but hit back seeing their karma," Rajnath Singh said at an event in Dehradun.
Talking about India's defence strategy, Singh said under PM Modi's "bold and visionary" leadership, India's defence sector has transformed remarkably from a largely import-driven model to becoming a "trusted global exporter".
"The world saw this change during the recent Operation Sindoor," Singh said.
On April 22, terrorists found to have links with Pakistan opened fire at tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which resulted in the death of 26 people, mostly tourists.
According to the victims, terrorists asked tourists about their religion and targeted only Hindu men. They reportedly asked women to go and narrate the ordeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In response, on May 7, India launched precision strikes under Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In retaliation, Pakistan attempted attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. India responded firmly to these actions.
The hostilities on the ground ceased following talks between the directors general of military operations from both sides on May 10, resulting in an agreement to halt military actions.
Earlier, Rajnath Singh said Pakistan should hand over UN-designated terrorists Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar to India if it is serious about talks between the two countries.
In an interaction with naval warriors onboard aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off Goa, Singh said if Pakistan resorts to anything "evil or unethical" against India, it will face the firepower and ire of the Indian Navy this time.
Singh said "Operation Sindoor is not over yet and this is just a pause, a warning. If Pakistan makes the same mistake again, India's response will be even harsher, and this time, it will not get a chance to recover."

J&K LG Manoj Sinha performs ‘pratham puja' at Amarnath cave shrine

The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board and the administration have improved the pilgrims' facilities. Earlier in the day, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) performed the first puja for the Amarnath Yatra at the Tawi riverfront. The puja was organised in Jammu on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, days ahead of the Amarnath Yatra. On Tuesday, a high-level security meeting chaired by Udhampur SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure was held to review preparations. The discussions centred on security arrangements, intelligence sharing, traffic management, medical aid, emergency response, and logistical support. Emphasis was laid on anti-narcotics operations. SSP Nagpure directed officers to conduct proactive drives to dismantle narcotic networks in the region. The Amarnath Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the sacred cave shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, at an altitude of 3,888 metres in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. The cave houses a naturally formed ice Shivling and draws lakhs of devotees every year. The Yatra is typically held during the Shravan month (July to August) according to the Hindu calendar, under the supervision of the SASB and with coordinated support from security and civil administration.

U.S. reaffirms strong support to India in fight against terrorism: State Department
The U.S. reaffirmed its strong support for India's fight against terrorism and the bilateral strategic partnership during the visit of an Indian all-party parliamentary delegation last week, the State Department said. The multi-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau last week in Washington. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said at a press briefing on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) that Mr. Landau reaffirmed the U.S.' strong support to India in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries. The delegation visited the U.S. as part of the government's global outreach efforts after Operation Sindoor. India launched the operation in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Responding to a question, Ms. Bruce said that a Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met officials of the State Department, including Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, during its visit to Washington last week. Ms. Hooker reiterated the U.S. support for the ongoing cessation of on-ground hostilities, '— as you might imagine, thank God — between India and Pakistan', Ms. Bruce said, adding that they also discussed important issues about the U.S.-Pakistan bilateral relationship, including counterterrorism cooperation. 'So that meeting occurred.' When asked if the U.S. received any assurance from Pakistan that it will take action against terrorists, Ms. Bruce said she was not going to discuss the details of those conversations. In response to a question on President Donald Trump offering to 'mediate' on the issue of Kashmir, Ms. Bruce said, 'Well, I — obviously, I can't speak to what's on the mind or the plans of the President. What I do know is that I think we all recognise that President Trump in each step that he takes, it's made to solve generational differences between countries, generational war." Ms. Bruce added that it should not "surprise" anyone that he would want to "manage" something like that. 'So, while I can't speak to his plans, the world knows his nature, and I can't speak to any details of what he might have in that regard…But it is an exciting time that if we can get to a point in that particular conflict..," Ms. Bruce said adding that it is a "very interesting time'. India has rejected any mediation related to the dispute on Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan and maintains that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are and will always remain an "integral" part of the country.
