J&K LG Manoj Sinha performs ‘pratham puja' at Amarnath cave shrine
Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid obeisance to Baba Barfani and performed the 'pratham puja' at the holy cave, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual Amarnath Yatra.
'Har Har Mahadev! Paid my obeisance to Baba Barfani and performed the 'pratham puja' at the holy cave, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. May Baba Amarnathji keep showering his divine blessings on all of us,' Sinha posted on X.
He urged devotees to turn out in large numbers and come to offer prayers at the holy shrine during the Amarnath Yatra that is scheduled from July 3 to August 9.
'I would request all devotees of Baba Barfani to visit in large numbers for the holy yatra and pray to Mahadev for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board and the administration have improved the pilgrims' facilities. Jammu and Kashmir Police, the army, CRPF and paramilitary forces have made foolproof security arrangements,' Sinha said after his visit.
Earlier in the day, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) performed the first puja for the Amarnath Yatra at the Tawi riverfront. The puja was organised in Jammu on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, days ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.
On Tuesday, a high-level security meeting chaired by Udhampur SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure was held to review preparations. The discussions centred on security arrangements, intelligence sharing, traffic management, medical aid, emergency response, and logistical support.
Emphasis was laid on anti-narcotics operations. SSP Nagpure directed officers to conduct proactive drives to dismantle narcotic networks in the region.
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the sacred cave shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, at an altitude of 3,888 metres in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. The cave houses a naturally formed ice Shivling and draws lakhs of devotees every year.
The Yatra is typically held during the Shravan month (July to August) according to the Hindu calendar, under the supervision of the SASB and with coordinated support from security and civil administration.

Niti Aayog : Central incentives only for zero emission vehicles
Taxpayers money will go towards incentivising only clean mobility solutions, with zero tailpipe emissions such as battery electric vehicles, Sudhendu Sinha, Programme Director (Electric Mobility, Transport & Infrastructure) at Niti Aayog told ET, adding hybrid vehicles will not be 'penalised' as they are more fuel efficient and emit lesser emissions than conventional petrol and diesel cars. 'Vehicles which are polluting don't New's to be supported. Less polluting vehicles (like hybrids) are welcome, they should not be penalised. But when it comes to the incentive, using taxpayers money to push forward (clean mobility), that should be going to vehicles which do not create pollution, so that is what electric vehicles are', Sinha said in an interview Thursday. Sinha said the government's targets to attain net zero emission are 'very aspirational'. Programmes are underway to not only encourage customer adoption of electric vehicles but also to build the country as manufacturing hub for clean vehicles. 'As far as dependence (on China) for lithium/critical materials is concerned, we are working on how alternate chemistry can evolve. Today, 16 out of 23 IITs are working on sustainable mobility, alternate chemistries, battery management systems, on the entire stream of telematics/ electronics. Our aspiration is not only to be an EV user, but an EV manufacturing hub', he informed. Sinha said if India wants to become a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, it has to stay you ahead on the curve of innovation. He said, 'In addition to that, you must have control over supply chain, which is critical. You can't be always dependent on others. So you have to gradually learn the tricks of the entire manufacturing. And we should be able to do it this.' Live Events He cited the example of Norway, which decided to switch to electric in 1995. For an economy whose growth came in from gasoline, majority of their current new car sales today comes from electric, Sinha said. The Indian government too has been putting in place supportive policies to support the shift to clean vehicles in India. Sinha said, 'As far as GST rationalization is concerned in support of electric vehicles, six to eight times we have been able to reduce it (levies), not only for the vehicle, but also multiple components. Similarly, to sort out the financing issue, the year before last, in the budget, the dense charging infrastructure was brought in the list of harmonized infrastructure.' This has resulted in capital that is being ring-fenced by banks for investments in charging networks. The government has also launched the Rs 25,938 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for auto and parts makers to address costs disabilities in manufacturing locally advanced auto parts, he said. This, along with the Rs 10,900 crore PM e-Drive, will help support customer demand across categories of electric vehicles. Going ahead, he said while certain segments of the automotive industry 'can definitely do without state support, but to think that there should be no support, that is a wrong proposition'. 'Support is needed, but we have to channelize it. Those are the things that would come once we are able to wrap up that entire scheme. We have to analyse how we did, where, how we should go forward, etc', he said.

Man's Body Found In Ice-Cream Freezer: Timeline Of Tripura Murder Case
Agartala: Sariful Islam, 24, a resident of Agartala's Indranagar who works as an electrician in Tripura capital's Smart City project, was in a relationship with a 20-year-old college student from Chandrapur neighbourhood. But they were about to break up since both belonged to different faiths. Some seven months ago, the girl's cousin Dibakar Saha returned to Tripura from Bangladesh after completing an MBBS course and began studying for India's exam to get a medical practice licence. Dr Saha had been eyeing his cousin initially, and both started having intimate chats on the internet, which the police have seized as evidence. Sariful knew Dr Saha through his girlfriend. However, the doctor had plans to kill Sariful for a long time. A few months ago, he made the first murder attempt when he called Sariful to a place which they frequented. He mixed sleeping pills in fruit juice and gave it to Sariful, who reached home before the effects of the pills kicked in. Sariful then fell ill for many days, but did not doubt Dr Saha. Dr Saha also had another girlfriend, Nabanita Das, a postgraduate who was preparing for a teaching job. On June 8, Dr Saha invited Sariful to the house of Joydeep Das, a relative of the doctor, to accept a gift. Dr Saha also brought his girlfriend Nabanita Das and a common friend, Animesh Yadav, who is a BPharma student. After Sariful reached Joydeb Das' house in Indranagar, he and Dr Das had an altercation over the 20-year-old woman. After that, Dr Saha strangulated him. With the help of the others and using his medical knowledge, he put the body in plastic wrappers and tied the limbs with ropes. Two days earlier, he had bought a huge trolley bag. He put the body inside the bag and took it to the house of Mousumi, a friend of Nabanita Das. They told Mousumi that it contained Nabanita's personal items. The police are however looking at Mousumi's role too. The three then left Indranagar on an Uber Auto, whose driver the police have questioned. On June 9 morning, the police received a missing person complaint from Sariful's parents, after which a search and investigation began. The same morning, Dr Saha's parents came from their hometown Gandacherra in Tripura's Dhalia district, 120 km from Agartala. They took the trolley with them and dumped it under an ice cream freezer at their grocery shop in Gandacherra and locked the place. Dr Saha's father alone returned to Agartala the same evening. He began contacting right wing groups to turn the matter into a Hindu-Muslim couple love affairs case, police sources told NDTV. Led by West Tripura Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar, the police launched a massive hunt for Sariful. From his phone records, the police found he made the last call to Dr Saha. When the police summoned him, Dr Saha behaved as if Sariful was his close friend and he was worried about the missing man. He told the police that he invited Sariful to give him a gift. The police then put him under surveillance. The first clue was the motorcycle of Sariful, which was found parked near Joydeep Das' house. When he was questioned, he too tried to mislead the cops. Sariful's family then told police about his relationship with a 20-year-old girl, who is a Hindu. When the police spoke to her, she said she had doubts about his cousin Dr Saha. Police took her phone and found chats that became the clinching evidence. Despite this, Dr Saha did not admit to the crime and tried to mislead the investigation again. The police then turned their attention to Nabanita Das, Dr Saha's girlfriend. When the police told her about Dr Saha's relationship with his 20-year-old cousin sister, Nabanita Das broke down and told the whole matter, following which the police detained her. On the night of June 9, the police detained Dr Saha, Animesh and Joydeep, and also Dr Saha's father. On June 10, the police took Dr Saha's father to Gandacherra and in the presence of a magistrate recovered the trolley from the ice cream freezer. They found the body inside. The police detained Dr Saha's mother too. When all the accused were cross questioned, Dr Saha admitted to the crime, the police said. The police on June 11 did a crime scene reconstruction and in the late evening announced the case to the media. The Tripura Police cracked the case within 24 hours of receiving a missing person complaint. They plan to take 10-day custody of the accused.

DPAR permission to KSCA for Vidhana Soudha event reached police on June 5, document indicates
The letter from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), in-charge of Vidhana Soudha, giving permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to hold a felicitation for the IPL winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team on the grand steps of the administrative nerve centre of the State, was received at the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vidhana Soudha Security) only on June 5. The event was on June 4, the note by the inward section at the office shows. This has raised questions on the timeline of events, and how the letter could reach the police a day after the event. The Hindu is in possession of the complete trail of the documents. The papers show that the DPAR writes to DCP (Vidhana Soudha Security) seeking his opinion for an event to felicitate RCB on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha if the team wins. Flagging concerns This letter is dated and signed June 3. In response to this letter, M. N. Karibasavana Gowda, DCP (Vidhana Soudha Security), wrote back flagging concerns over lack of time to prepare for security for the event, but said the police would abide by the decision of the government. This letter has been dated and signed June 4. Following this, DPAR wrote to the CEO, KSCA, permitting them to hold the event on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha subject to 16 conditions. A copy of this letter, dated June 4, seems to have reached the police on June 5. For all letters and documents that reach a police station or an office, the inward section assigns it a serial number, enters it in a register and marks it with a seal and sign. The DPAR letter giving permission to the KSCA for the event, is marked with serial number 1656 and the official has signed the document marking the date June 5, 2025. However, DPAR Secretary G. Satyavathi said that the allegations were 'not true'. Despite multiple attempts, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh was not available for comment. Multiple probes Presently, multiple probes — magisterial inquiry, judicial inquiry by Justice John Michael Cunha, and CID — into the stampede fiasco are mostly focusing on the events at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Amidst the IAS and IPS officials being at loggerheads, there have been demands from within the fraternity that the probe be expanded to all the happenings with respect to RCB victory celebrations in the city on June 4, including the event at the Vidhana Soudha. Police officials have argued that the event at the stadium cannot be looked at in isolation, as the open-air event at the Vidhana Soudha and the confusion over the victory parade brought lakhs of fans to the streets, leading to overcrowding and stampede at the stadium. Video clips Two video clips which show the crowds gathered at the Vidhana Soudha being directed towards the stadium are also doing the rounds. A senior IAS officer, speaking to television channels during preparations of the event on the grand steps, is heard saying that the Vidhana Soudha was only the starting point of the victory parade and appealing to RCB fans to not gather in large numbers at the Vidhana Soudha but go to the stadium. By then Home Minister G. Parameshwara had announced that there would be no victory parade, sources claimed. In another video, the anchor of the felicitation event at the Vidhana Soudha, announcing the end of the event, is heard appealing to the crowd to move towards the stadium, 'if there was space'. 'Any probe into the stampede fiasco that day has to look at all the events of the day holistically and not in a piecemeal manner,' a senior police official said.
