Cannock: Murder-accused 'volatile and jealous' court told

'Highly volatile'
In his opening speech on Tuesday, prosecution counsel Jonas Hankin KC said father-of-six Mr Price had been considered by police to be "at very high risk of domestic abuse" before his death.He said the pair had been in a "dysfunctional, abusive and highly volatile relationship which began in 2021", which was "characterised by a cycle of separation and reconciliation".In text messages sent to Mr Price the day before his death, Ms Carless said: "I hate u... I wish you was dead."The court heard she had been at the pub drinking with a male friend on 24 December, with whom she later had sex, before a female friend sent her a screenshot of Mr Price's Tinder profile in the early hours of Christmas Day."The prosecution says the defendant's actions were motivated by anger and jealousy, fuelled by cocaine and alcohol abuse," Mr Hankin said."Her behaviour simply reflects her volatile, aggressive personality."Court heard she called Mr Price 45 times between 02:15 and 02:44.
'Sounded scared'
Members of Mr Price's family sobbed in the public gallery as CCTV footage was played of the moment Ms Carless arrived at the house and "stalked" him around the garden, where he had been staying in a caravan, as he held his chest.Mr Hankin told the jury the blade penetrated 12cm (4.7 inches) into his chest, cutting through skin, muscle, rib cartilage, lung tissue and the heart."He died rapidly on the floor of the conservatory in his parents' home."Mr Hankin added the taxi driver reported that about 30 seconds after Ms Carless let herself into the property with a key, he heard a "very loud and prolonged" scream from a man and that he "sounded scared".He said less than two minutes after arriving at the scene, Ms Carless was "anxious and sweating" as she got back into the taxi and demanded the driver take her to her parents' home, where she allegedly admitted what she had done and called 999.The trial continues.

Winter had already been referred to a UK-wide programme designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism before he devised the sick plot. But no further action was taken for months even despite Winter continuing to openly discuss mass shootings. Winter's defence team urged a judge not to jail the warped teen and instead impose a community order. But the judge ruled that out stating in his sentencing remarks that Winter appeared to be 'progressing to the brink of a mass school shooting'. Jailing Winter for six years today, Lord Paul Arthurson added: 'This was a prolonged, disturbing course of conduct.' Winter's parents were in court and his dad collapsed in shock at the sentence. Defence KC Shelagh McCall told the court Winter, who was just 15 when the plot attack was devised, was bullied. She told the court Winter had been 'groomed' by a twisted online community who made the wannabe killer believe the 'violent fantasy was morally justified'. She said: 'The cause was revenge for bullying. Nothing in the investigation provided proper basis for terrorism material. The accused identified with Columbine. 'He felt harm was justified towards those who had harmed him and to those who had failed to protect him.' A police probe kicked off in summer 2023 after a chilling photo of Winter dressed head-to-toe in combat gear and wielding an imitation rifle inside the school surfaced on social media. The image sparked panic among terrified parents and pupils. Winter, who harboured vile pro-Nazi and racist views, had already been flagged to a UK-wide anti-terror programme aimed at stopping young people from becoming radicalised. Winter had showed pals pictures and videos of dead victims of school shootings and even showed one pal detailed instructions involving explosions before telling them a plan to carrying out the suicide attack. Winter then dressed in clothes similar to those worn by the Columbine killers and posted a video on TikTok. Winter admitted to a breach of the peace and the separate charge under the Terrorism Act, with offences spanning from June 2022 to July 2023. Defence KC Shelagh McCall said Winter had autism, and that a professor had found a 'serious link' between the condition and the disturbing behaviour – insisting it was not driven by extremist ideology. She said Winter had shown clear progress since the arrest. She said: 'He has expressed regret and recognises that he didn't previously appreciate how his behaviour was impacting on others. 'He accepts in the context of his plea of guilty and his remarks about school shootings in 2022, him dressing in that costume and carrying that in a school would generate alarm to those who came upon it but this was not his intent.'

Chilling surveillance video captured the moment a gunman shot two brothers dead inside a gas station in notoriously crime-plagued Kansas City. Byron Garrett, 35, and his brother, Taylor, 32, were gunned down on the afternoon of July 20 while inside the Conoco station at the intersection of East Truman Road and Brooklyn Avenue, according to Fox 4 KC News. The suspect, 27-year-old Emanuel Hernandez, was arrested at the scene but released after posting bond. The Garrett family's attorney argued that the surveillance footage clearly supports a murder charge over the lesser charges Hernandez is facing after prosecutors said Taylor was the aggressor during the deadly run-in. In the video, Emanuel is seen entering the gas station and arguing with the brothers, Fox 4 reported. Taylor is shown swinging at Hernandez and striking him in the face. Hernandez then pulled a gun from his waistband and pointing it at the brothers as they frantically tried to flee the store. While the footage shared by Fox 4 ends there, the outlet said it showed Hernandez shooting the brothers before they collapsed to the floor. The footage also showed the suspect pistol-whipping Byron. 'It actually started before then when Mr. Hernandez was driving down a wrong-way street,' the attorney told Fox 4. 'The Garretts flagged him down to tell him he was going the wrong way and he started an argument with them and then followed him to the station.' On Tuesday, Emanuel posted $5,000 of a $50,000 bond and was released from jail. Lotven argued that the surveillance video clearly shows Hernandez as the aggressor and could support up to two murder charges. 'There has to be a point in the law where you lose your right to self defense if the harm or threatened harm or perceived harm has stopped and no longer existed,' the lawyer told Fox 4. A GoFundMe page has since been launched to help the Garrett family cover the costs of the brothers' funeral services. 'The family is not only facing the daunting task of arranging two funerals, but also left questioning why their loved one's murderer is not properly being charged with this heinous and senseless crime of shooting two UNARMED men,' the description reads 'Their lives mattered.' So far this year, Kansas City has recorded 92 homicides, making it the city's second-deadliest in five years. The city's downtown has become a hotspot for illegal street racing and reckless ATV and dirt bike riders tearing through neighborhoods.
