$25k ring stolen in ‘distressing' theft
The two burglaries occurred about 6.30pm on Friday June 27 at two neighbouring Toorak homes.
Police are now urging anyone with information to come forward.

From the first property he allegedly stole a 2-carat diamond engagement ring, before forcing his way into the next-door home and taking a safe filled with approximately $50k worth of jewellery and four WWII army medals. No residents were home at the time of the thefts.
Detective Senior Constable Daniel Wall said the significance of the stolen items has made it 'particularly distressing' for the victims.
'An engagement ring carries profound sentimental worth and it would extremely upsetting to have this taken away from you,' Detective Wall said.
'The war medals belonged to the victim's mother who has now sadly passed away, so you can understand how heartbreaking it must be for this family. A further $50k worth of jewellery was also stolen. Supplied / VIC Police Credit: Supplied
'We're asking residents in the area to check their CCTV, and we're particularly keen to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area at the time. You can do so anonymously via Crime Stoppers.'
Police have released images of the stolen jewellery, which include a cupid charm, a love-heart bracelet, and a star-shaped brooch.

Man's ute allegedly stolen as he stopped to help person 'lying on road'
A DRIVER had stopped to help a man lying on the roadway when he allegedly hopped up, got in the stopped ute and drove off on the Central Coast on Friday. Police allege the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was launched. The alleged chase continued along the Central Coast Highway near Lynwood Avenue at The Entrance, where it was terminated. Officers successfully deployed road spikes a short time later at The Entrance Road. Police said the ute was then found abandoned on Gosford Avenue and the driver, a 50-year-old man, was arrested nearby. He was taken to Wyong Police Station, where he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.119, more than twice the legal limit. The man was charged with taking and driving a car without consent, hindering or resisting police, police pursuit, not give particulars to owner of damaged property, and mid-range drink driving. Police urged anyone with information, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The 50-year-old man was due to face Parramatta Bail Court on the weekend. Driver killed in WA outback crash 700km north east of Perth
A WA outback driver was killed early Saturday after his Toyota Hilux rolled and crashed along the remote Menzies-Sandstone Road. Police said the 60-year man was travelling south east towards Menzies — more than 700km north east of Perth — about 7.25am when his white ute left the road and rolled in Ularring. The driver, who was the only person in the ute, died at the scene. Anyone who saw or has information relating to this crash, or who saw either the Toyota Hilux travelling in the area or prior to the crash, should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online . Second victim dies of injuries after Melbourne playground crash

A 59-year-old woman died at the scene, a 60-year-old man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and a two-year-old boy was seriously injured. Police said the driver remained in hospital with minor injuries. She has not yet been interviewed and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash is still under way. It's believed the vehicle travelled out of control for about 50 metres before mounting a footpath and striking the adults, both from Wantirna South, and the child, from behind. Aerial footage showed emergency services setting up a tent to cover the car in a park, immediately adjacent to play equipment. A second victim, a 60-year-old man, has now died of his injuries, police confirmed. (Nine) "We haven't got a lot of details from the driver. The driver's suffered some very minor injuries, but obviously terribly shaken by the incident which is why we've taken the driver to hospital for assessment," Superintendent Justin Goldsmith said last week. It was unclear whether the driver suffered a medical episode, Goldsmith said. "We don't have enough information to say whether speed was a contributing factor," he said.
