Another major title for Louis with New Ross Pipe Band

'Louis has been consistently winning prizes in the juvenile grades and has won every major title on numerous occasions, including twice World Champion. This is Louis' first year competing in the adult grade, which is a fantastic achievement to have reached third place in the All Ireland Championships on his first year amongst the adult drum majors,' said Brian Mac Mahon, director with the band.
'We are so proud of Louis,' he added.
It doesn't stop there for the talented Louis as he travels to the UK Championships in Edinburgh next Saturday, and after that, he's off to South Africa for an exhibition with the wonderfully talented Armagh Drum Majors under the tutelage of the maestro Brian Wilson.
Louis will be leading the massed pipe band parade of the Irish Pipe Band Association on the first day of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Wexford on Sunday, August 3 at 3 p.m. and he'll also be performing with the New Ross and District Pipe Band in the Library Park on Saturday, August 23 at 7.30 p.m.. Admission for the Library Park concert is free of charge.

Wexford swimmer Alvar Joakit wins top prize at Connacht and Leinster Championships

Competing in the Connacht and Leinster Championships held at the University of Limerick, eleven-year-old Alvar took part in eight events, earning an impressive six gold, one silver, and one bronze. His outstanding performance earned him the Best Male Swimmer of the Meet award, following in the footsteps of Irish international Evan Bailey of New Ross. This prestigious accolade spans all age categories and further cements Alvar's reputation as a swimmer to watch. Alvar is one of 23 swimmers representing Wexford Swimming Club at this year's Nationals, with age group competitions taking place at the University of Limerick in mid-July, and youth and senior competitions at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin at the end of July. Earlier this year, Alvar also claimed the Male Swimmer of the Meet title at the Trojan Gala in New Park Comprehensive, Dublin, where he won five gold medals and broke three long-standing gala records. Speaking on Alvar's ongoing success, head coach Martin Kirby said: 'Alvar's performance at the championship was nothing short of extraordinary. Breaking long-standing records and winning across multiple events at such a young age is a clear sign of his potential. 'He is truly one of the swimmers of the future, and we are incredibly proud to have him representing our club.' Pat Daly of Swim Ireland also praised Alvar's achievements: 'To see such talent and composure at just eleven years of age is inspiring. Alvar's achievements across both provincial championships and major gala events speak volumes about his commitment and natural ability. 'He is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young swimmers in Ireland right now.' This is a moment of celebration not only for Alvar but also for Wexford Swimming & Water Polo Club, as the club continues to develop young talent and inspire future generations of swimmers.
