Rashford hints at interest in Barcelona move

Yahoo3 hours ago

Marcus Rashford has hinted that he would be open to a move to Barcelona this summer and has said he would 'love to play with Lamine Yamal'.
Rashford is weighing up his options after returning to Manchester United from a loan spell at Aston Villa last season.

The 27-year-old scored four times and added six assists during an encouraging spell at Villa, who have the option to sign Rashford for £40m this summer. However, neither Villa or Rashford have committed to a permanent move.
Manchester United have also set that asking price for other clubs with Barcelona among those linked with the England international.
The Spanish side's move for Nico Williams could complicate an additional pursuit of Rashford, but the player has suggested he would be keen on the move to La Liga.
Speaking to the Spanish YouTube channel xBuyer, Rashford was full of praise for Barcelona teenager Yamal and spoke of his interest in playing alongside the Spaniard.
'It's difficult to put into words what he's doing, because he's not supposed to be doing that at 16, 17. I don't think we've seen it before. For sure (I'd love to play with Lamine Yamal). Everyone in the world wants to play with the best. Hopefully, we'll see.'

€30m Liverpool transfer now just the MEDICAL away

Jarell Quansah nears Bayer Leverkusen move Liverpool are now very, very close to selling Jarell Quansah to Leverkusen. It would be the third deal between the two clubs this summer. Kicker reports that virtually everything is now agreed on. Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes has been out at the UEFA U-21 European Championship where Quansah is representing England in order to move things along. The Liverpool defender has completely agreed to the move, while a fee should sit at just more than €30m. Really, we're just waiting on a medical here.

Leverkusen set to sign Jarell Quansah from Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen are set to sign Jarell Quansah from Liverpool. The Bundesliga side are expected to pay in the region of £30million plus add-ons for the 22-year-old central defender. A buyback clause has been proposed and could be part of the deal. A move is unlikely to be completed before the end of England's participation in the Under-21 European Championship, with Quansah a key part of Lee Carsley's squad but the broad parameters are in place for him to move to Germany. Advertisement England face the Netherlands in the tournament's semi-finals on Wednesday. The Athletic reported on Thursday that a deal was close but no formal bid had been made, with personal terms not anticipated to be an issue. Leverkusen have been in the market for defensive reinforcements after losing Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich while they are not expecting Odilon Kossounou back after his season-long loan to Atalanta, with an option in place to make the move permanent. Liverpool have been in regular dialogue with their German counterparts this summer having signed Florian Wirtz, who officially joined the Premier League champions on Friday, and after triggering the release clause of full-back Jeremie Frimpong, whose arrival was announced last month. Quansah came through Liverpool's academy and made his breakthrough in the 2023-24 season after a debut in August 2023. He has played 55 games for Liverpool in total, scoring three times and providing three assists but had his game time dramatically reduced last season. Earlier in the tournament in Slovakia, Quansah spoke about the need to progress in his career. 'I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I've had in professional football,' he said. 'From Bristol Rovers (on loan in 2023) until now, to put perspective and look back, I'm in a very good position to take the next step. It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.' Analysis by Liverpool correspondent Gregg Evans Moving to a club like Leverkusen, who will be playing in the Champions League next year and chasing domestic honours, is a good switch for Quansah. The centre-back is desperate to feature regularly after struggling for game time last season and he should get that opportunity in Germany. Advertisement Leverkusen are known for giving youngsters the opportunity to realise their full potential and Quansah is a player bursting with talent. After getting a taste of top-flight football at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, he was focused on kicking on, but last season felt like a setback as he was forced to watch most of the campaign from the sidelines. His aim in 2025-26 is to get more minutes and give himself a chance of making the England squad for the World Cup next summer. If he moves, Liverpool will look for a replacement and have a short list of options. With Ibrahima Konate still in talks over a new contract and Virgil Van Dijk only extending his deal late into last season, Liverpool have been carefully considering centre-backs for some time. ()

Jon Jones' Major Retirement Decision Sparks Confusion

Jon Jones' Major Retirement Decision Sparks Confusion originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jon Jones officially announced his unexpected retirement from the UFC on Saturday, shortly after UFC Baku ended in Europe and after Dana White first broke the news of Jones' decision during the post-fight press conference. Advertisement Jones' announcement, one he made on X, effectively ends one of the most dominant and controversial careers in MMA history. The 37-year-old shared his decision with the world in a detailed message posted to social media, confirming weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future in the heavyweight division and after endless delays to his potential fight against interim champion Tom Aspinall. The retirement, as announced by White, also makes Aspinall the new, reigning, undisputed UFC Heavyweight champion, effective immediately. 'Today, I'm officially announcing my retirement from the UFC,' Jones wrote on X. 'This decision comes after a lot of reflection, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the journey I've experienced over the years. Advertisement Jones thanked White and a few other personalities related to the UFC promotion and the MMA world, as well as fellow fighters, without naming names. 'To my fellow fighters, thank you for bringing out the best in me and for the respect we've shared inside and outside the cage. As I close this chapter of my life, I look forward to new opportunities and challenges ahead," Jones wrote. "I can continue to contribute to the sport and inspire others in new ways. Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey with me. The best is yet to come.' Jon Jones (red gloves) reacts after defeating Stipe Miocic (not pictured) in the heavyweight bout during UFC Penner-Imagn Images The announcement sparked massive confusion among fans as it came out of the blue with nobody expecting such massive news to drop during a post-fight presser of a UFC event held in Europe. Advertisement Here are some reactions from fans sharing all sorts of takes following Jones' announcement. "You're funny Jon," user @SeanTaIksSports posted, along with a graphic quoting Aspinall saying he'd retire Jones without fighting him. "So how insulting was the offer?" @Doctor_Degen posted, referencing the endless speculation about the potential unification fight between Aspinall and Jones. "Noticed how no one is congratulating you for your accomplishments, rather talking about your shortcomings like ducking Aspinall? Tarnished legacy," @WilsonVollyball posted, noting how confusing Jones' career and decisions have been of late. "So you're retiring from the UFC, not MMA? Are we actually going to get the Ngannou fight?" user @MattBrevner wondered, as Jones didn't make clear his ultimate call. Advertisement "Congratulations on an amazing career and I wish you nothing but the best. Is there a possibility that we can see a Francis Ngannou VS John Jones in the Near future?" user @hightvmeta asked, as it's unclear whether Jones will pursue fights outside of the UFC. "Hope to see you fight again. I doubt it but would be cool if you came back just for the 'super fights' you were talking about," @snydxr chimed in on the announcement. "your ego won't allow you to retire. You'll be back," @nizeyourbreak posted, predicting a comeback.
