Kolkata, Jul 23 (PTI) The Sikkim government on Wednesday launched a fresh investment outreach in eastern India, targeting sectors such as tourism, agro-processing, IT, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy, through a Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet held in Kolkata.
Led by Commerce & Industries Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia, the initiative aims to deepen economic ties with West Bengal and neighbouring states, while positioning Sikkim as an emerging investment destination with policy incentives and organic, sustainable development at its core.
'We are offering attractive policy support in key areas like agri-horti, micro-hydro, IT, film, and sports to build industrial capacity,' said M Ravi Kumar, Principal Director, Industries Department, Government of Sikkim.
Officials highlighted the state's strategic location, organic ecosystem, and potential in education, herbal medicine, and bamboo-based industries, while urging an inclusive growth model that supports farmers, women entrepreneurs, and border communities. PTI BSM NN

London-bound Air India Boeing 787-9 aborts takeoff at Delhi due to technical issue
Air India's Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which was to fly to London, aborted takeoff at the Delhi airport due to a technical issue on Thursday. 'Flight AI2017, operating from Delhi to London on July 31, returned to the bay due to a suspected technical issue. The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the takeoff run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks,' an airline spokesperson said in a statement to PTI. A source said the flight was to be operated with a Boeing 787-9 plane. 'An alternative aircraft is being deployed to fly the passengers to London at the earliest. Our ground staff is extending all support and care to the guests to minimise inconvenience caused due to this unexpected delay,' the statement said. SAIL to raise capex by 25% in FY26, expands plant capacity ahead of 2030 target

The decision is part of a broader expansion strategy to scale up its installed steelmaking capacity from 20 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 35 MTPA by 2030, at a total projected cost of nearly ₹1 lakh per PTI, the company's Board has approved the investment, and ₹1,642 crore was already spent during the April–June quarter, exceeding the Q1 target. "Capex last year was close to ₹6,000 crore. And this year, we have kept a target of ₹7,500 crore throughout the year, which is a higher target," said Ashok Kumar Panda, Director (Finance), part of the expansion, SAIL is undertaking tendering at its IISCO Steel Plant in West Bengal, where a 4.5 MTPA brownfield expansion is planned. The plant currently has a capacity of 2.5 MTPA. Emami Q1FY26 net profit rises 9pc to Rs 164cr
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Kolkata, Jul 31 (PTI) FMCG major Emami Ltd on Thursday reported a 9 per cent year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 164 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, aided by improved operating performance despite muted revenue growth. The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 150.6 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, the company informed bourses. Consolidated revenue from operations stood at Rs 904.1 crore in the June quarter, almost flat compared to Rs 906.1 crore in the year-ago period. Emami's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), excluding associates, grew to Rs 235.8 crore from Rs 226.9 crore in the same quarter last year. 'Despite revenue being largely stable, cost optimisation and operational efficiency supported profit growth," the company said. The company's total expenses stood at Rs 689.9 crore, up from Rs 689.6 crore in the year-ago period. International markets contributed Rs 141.7 crore to revenues during the quarter, up from Rs 138.5 crore in Q1FY25, while the domestic business remained steady at Rs 762.4 crore. Vice Chairman and MD Harsha V Agarwal said, 'Our performance this quarter reflects the underlying strength and resilience of our brands, even in the face of an unusually subdued summer… The Man Company's return to growth in June 2025 is especially encouraging, and we are confident of sustaining this trajectory through sharper positioning and a comprehensive brand revamp.
