Bay County OKs FDOT grant for road resurfacing and other improvements
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Bay County Commissioners approved a $3.3 million 'Small Community Outreach Program' or SCOP grant. It will fully fund a resurfacing project of County Road 2321 from U.S. 231 to the Deer Point Lake Dam Bridge. The grant will also cover other improvements like turn lanes, guardrail installation, drainage upgrades and audible and vibratory treatments. The project is a part of a larger initiative to alleviate traffic and create safer roadways in the area. The Titus Road and Star Avenue roundabout is set to be advertised in the next week or so. Officials say there will be a lot of coordination to accomplish both. 'It will work with some other projects that we've got going on in that area that are going to help alleviate traffic flow. That area is growing. And so, with that, it allows us to be able to manage traffic flow, be able to improve the roadway as it currently exists, but also add some improvements to it with some separate projects that are going to be ongoing that allow flow of traffic,' Bay County District 4 Commissioner Doug Moore said. Commissioners voted to accept the DOT grant today for the resurfacing project. The money should arrive sometime after July. The county does not have to supply matching funds.
